Just back from Cypress Gardens in Winter Haven, FL with DD 6. It is about 30-45 mins away from WDW. We had an awesome time!! :thumbsup2

We live about 4 hours north of CG and we have a Wild Adventures pass, so we did not have to pay admission. Both parks are owned by the same company. We go to WA quite often and wanted to check out CG.

On Monday, we left mid-afternoon (wanted to leave earlier... just couldn't get everything together :confused3 ). So since we got a late start and CG was only open until 7pm all this week ( they're open later of the weekends), we went to WDW and stayed until 11pm. Needless to say, it was very packed. :crowded: Still enjoyed it though.

On Tuesday, we went to CG all day ... open from 10-7. Had a blast! :Pinkbounc They have several shows and lots of rides. The park itself is very pretty. Lots of green grass, trees, topiaries, etc. But you would not believe how low the crowd were. To give you an example, we could see our car from the front gate! There were people there, just not the multitudes you see at WDW.

They also have a water park included in your park admission that we spent alot of time in ( wave pool, lazy river, kiddie play area, water slides).

On Wednesday, we went back to CG and did some things we didn't have a chance to do on Tuesday. One thing I wanted to do was the paddle boat cruise, but DD6 wanted to spend her time in the water park area, so we'll do that next time.

One more thing that surprised me.... I overheard one of the workers say that this time of year is their slow time! :confused3 He said that their busiest time was the winter time when the snow birds came down.

Anyway, I would recommend this park, as a change of pace, more beautiful park than some I have visited previously. Every park has its place. Feel free to ask any questions.

I agree! We went for two days in December and while the water park was closed we still had a great time! I couldn't believe how much time we spent there, the day seemed to fly by. The first day we were there, Regis Philbin and Susan Lucci were performing. CG is a great park to spend a day or two in.

My family used to go there when I was a kid. Do they still have the ladies dressed in those old fashioned beautiful gowns walking around? They were so pretty.

Yes, they had girls dressed up in antebellum dresses with photo ops for you to take or a professional photogragher.

They also had a program called "junior belles" where young girls could dress in the antebellum dresses and walk around the park for two hours and have their pictures taken. My DD6 thought about doing it, but she wanted to keep the dress, so she decided to spend her souvenier money differently. ;)

Will they still have everything lit up for the Christmas season? I know that our trips to this park at Christmas was a real highlight for us....absolutely breathtaking! :sunny:

I love Cypress Gardens!!!!! We live less than 2 miles away and go a few times a week. As a high school kid I was one of the southern belles....talk about being hot!
The park is the best its ever been. My 3 year old loves it. His favorite things are the trains (model and the one that goes around the park, the goats and the water park.
This is our slower time. Many snowbirds are heading home and school is still in. I am taking my 3rd grade class in early May. When I called to get a reservation for our group I was told that Fridays from here on out will be packed!

My girls are older - 17 & 22 - but I know they would love dressing up as a southern belle and having pictures taken. Do you know if they have the option for older girls to dress up/take pictures?

The Jr Belle program is for younger girls. But I'd call the park...they may do it for your girls.

Yes, your girls could dress up too. They said they have had 30-year-olds dress up as long as they had a dress to fit ;)

We went there when I was 9. I loved it! I loved the southern belles-I wanted to be one-and I remember really enjoying the shows. It's not on the schedule for this trip, but I hope we'll make it in the next few years.

Thanks so much for the info! Sounds like we will definitely be checking into this option! The girls would be in heaven :)

My DD did this when she was around 10 or so. She LOVED it! We took pictures all over the park and did a collage that she still has on her wall (almost 19 now).

One of the highlights of the day happened when we were taking a picture with one of the belles who actually worked there. Right after we finished with the picture, a little girl (about 4 or 5) came by and told her mother that she wanted to have her picture taken with the belle. As we started to move so she could pose with the belle, the little girl said, "No! I want my picture with the girl in the purple dress!" (who was my DD!) DD was very flattered and posed with a big smile.

I know they used to also do mother and daughter dress ups for Mother's Day.
