I just posted this on another thread but thought others might enjoy a mini review, especially considering prices of Carnival vs Disney...
"Well, this is an interesting dilemma because Carnival is very inexpensive I think it is worth going every now and then; however; there is absolutely no comparision to the Disney ships.
Carnival Positives:
1) Beautiful, Beautiful Half Moon Cay - much prettier than Castaway Cay since it has an amazing lagoon to view on the other side and a much nicer swimming area.
2) Wonderful people. I ran into many, many helpful smiling people.
3) Food very nice - most on par with Disney, OK so Disney has never been known for their food.
Carnival Negatives:
1) Las Vegas style ship - older, poorly maintained (except staterooms) and often very dirty public restrooms
2) Very poor design of ship...hard to get around from our cabin to main areas, adult outside areas on opposite sides of ship - quiet pools on opposite side of spa. Snack areas, drink areas all in main casual dining made for crowds and hard to figure out for first timer
3) Total lack of day activities - night shows and activities very late. They really only focused on gaming/casinos
4) Constant pushes to sell you everything from drinks, pictures, spa, jewelry and alcohol
5) No movie theater - no real choice on TV and no schedule of what showed on TV
OK so it was only $700 for both Mum and I to go on a 5-night Bahamain Cruise. You get what you pay for. My thoughts - bring a really good book unless you like to gamble.
