I rented points on this board for our trip to BCV last week. A 2 BR for me, husband and 4 yr old and sister, hisband and 3 & 5 yr old, a studio for mom and dad. We absolutely LOVED it!! We were greeted with many welcome homes, which I was surprised at since we're not members. We loved stormalong bay as well as the Dunes Cove pool. The rooms were immaculate and well designed we flet like we were "at home" it was really great all around. Everything was clean and many of the Christmas decorations were up and beautiful. The staff was wonderful and attentive (we had a broken coffee pot and a sliding door that wouldn't lock-they came right away). We loved being so close to the boardwalk and epcot as well as the boatride to MGM. We all loved it so much we're talking about buying DVC for ourselves (only problem is we really want BCV for our home resort). Did Cape May Cafe for breakfast and dinner both were great, excellent servers and food. I wish they had separate buses because sometimes you wait awhile but all in all it was an awesome experience!! I am so glad I found you guys and rented points. I don't think I can ever go back to a regular hotel room again! By the way our rooms were 354 a dedicated 2BR and 359 a studio. 354-was pool view, very nice, 359 was Epcot view, no problem with road noise although it was right there. We will defintiely be going back we were so pleased with the Beach Club Villas.

Thanks so much for posting. It's nice to hear a room report from a non-member and a first time villa visitor.

I'm glad you enjoyed your renting experience. For me BCV is the perfect location and I love staying there.

Hi.

Thank you for taking the time to post. It's especially nice for the BCV owners to here that everything was just the way it should be at the resort. Glad you enjoyed your stay.

We can convert you into an owner...............lol. Give us time we can be very convincing !!!

I had to chuckle when I read your report, Amy. I am living proof that it's almost impossible to go back to a regular room after getting a taste of DVC. I rented points twice (at OKW and BWV) before deciding I just had to buy in for myself. Now, we're looking forward to our first trip "home" to the BCV in December, and I cannot wait!!

I look forward to one day welcoming you home.

Pat

19 days and counting . . . again!

I'm glad you had a good trip. Those that get upset about renting should read this. This is the type of response I invariably get when I've rented points. I also doubt people who respond as Izzyq has would trash the room as many have suggested renters do.

Glad you enjoyed BCV. BWV is our home, but we had a great stay at BC before the villas and got addicted to Stormalong Bay! So, our next trip we will be splitting our stay between the two.

Glad you had a great trip!! If you decide you want to join DVC and you want BCV, just start checking resales. There is a link at the top of this page ;)

I agree it is a great resort - I also own there and we love it!

I don't think there are many, if any, people that get upset about renting.

The only thing I have a problem with is securing difficult to get reservations at the eleven month window and then selling them on EBAY. I think that members planing to use the units themselvs and not scalp them should really have first dibs on thos units.

I think that when renters only rent Sun-Thur, they are hurting all of us.

Renting is a great thing for both owners and vacationers.

Agreed. I often recommend to people to rent points to learn more about DVC, and have no problem with those who occassionally rent thier points out, especially through the use of the friendly rent/trade board. We're rented additional points to extend our vacation, and were glad they were available. As you describe, the problem is not renting points, it is auctioning off prime holiday reservation times for the lowest sun thru thurs point amount, taking advantage of the vacation ownership plan as an ongoing for-profit business practice that causes me concern. "Point scalpers" is probably a reasonable term to describe those unethical primetime auction business practices.

Glad you had a wonderful time at BCV. If you watch the resale market you can find BCV points. I recommend our site sponsor, the Timeshare Store as a great place to shop. They can put you on a call list and let you know if a BCV resale becomes available. We love the resort as well, the setting is wonderful.

Glad you had a great trip and experience with DVC! Thank you for taking time to report back!:sunny:

Rich, it seems there are a number that don't feel people should rent or should only rent to family and friends or should only rent for the yearly fees. There have been many instances where members of this board have accused renters of being a large part of the problem for dues, damages, etc. Personally I suspect renters take better care of our "Homes" than members actually do but that is my impression from the wonderful people I've dealt with when I rented.

As far as people getting upset, there are varying degrees. Even you and CaptainMidnight qualified your answers. I just don't see what difference the rental method or location has from the standpoint of the renter. The price paid or the actual dates or days of the week rented. I would guess that WDW rentals are actually the worst group as far as being abusive, but again, that's my impression and nothing more.

If you have a beef with the S-F it's with DVC for being set up that way where it's again the members usage and not the renters that cause the problem.

Have you ever hand waxed a rental car? Ever hand waxed a car you owned? Do you know anyone who has ever hand waxed a rental car? How many people do you know who have hand waxed a car they owned? Given the analogy, I suspect that owners take better care of the resort than renters or cash paying guests.

I see your point but this is different. If you drove a car for a week, the analogy might be more accurate. I know many people that do not treat what they own as well as I treat what others own. The cars are not only filthy but dinged up through their own negligence. Cigarrette ashes in the floorboard, soda spilled in the console etc. Many in their houses are slobs as well and some of them are DVC owners. I just don't see DVC members as a group treating this any better than anyone else, maybe worse. Regardless, there will be all types of behaviour from owners, renters, those who rent from DVC and exchangers. I guess what I see from renters is the same reverence that the OP shows and I don't see that as consistently from owners. I think you are giving owners as a group way too much credit. IMO of course.

The repair rate for rental cars is higher than the repair rate for cars that are owned. If you check consumer magazines like Comsumer Reports, they will caution against pruchasing a used car from a rental company because of the additional abuse a rental car has gone through, vs an owned car.

Your experiences sound nice, but the plural of anecdote is not data. There is clear fact-based data that consumers do not take as good a care of rental property as property they own, and the car rental business provides excellent data sources for those determinations over long time periods, not just a week.

Please don't misinterpret this factual correction as an opinion on whether DVC renting should be allowed, I'm fine with members renting thier points. Just want to keep the facts straight.

I do not believe this has anything to do with the DVC situation. That is the issue. In terms of this circumstance, everyone is a renter at DVC. Some people abuse what they own because it's theirs and they can. Some take better care of others property than they do their own. Absent any proof direct to timeshares, we are only going on anecdotal info. What people do with the cars and houses they actually own is not particularly relevent IMO. The term ownership with DVC does not imply the same thing as ownership with a car or home. So no we do not have a fact that DVC renters are more likely to abuse than "owners". I'll email Paul Ryan, the manager at Marriott's Grande Ocean and ask his opinion. That would be the closest to any real factual info I can get to and far closer than any we have discussed on this board.

Paul was back to me quickly. He said that he didn't have any specific data but his impression was there was NO difference between Owners, Marriott exchangers, other exchangers, guests of owners (renters) or those that rented cash. He said that the big difference was Families were a lot worse than adults. He did say that short weekend rentals seemed worse due to the college group issue. He also felt that owners were far more likely to report minor issues allowing their site team a chance to correct deficiencies. It's certainly not DVC and how transferable the info is, I'll let you guys decide, but is far closer than any other direct information any of us have at this time.

He did go on to say that in general it wasn't a big problem regardless and he felt that the high cost of ownership, rentals, etc selected out favorable guests.
