Just back from BCV - my opinion (long)

Just back from a 3 nite stay at the BCV 2 bedroom. We got room # 154, dedicated 2 bedrm, ground floor, pool view (I requested top floor but didn't get it). This is our first stay in BCV, obviously. I have previously stayed in BWV & HH (2 bedrooms), and OKW (studio). We spend the first 5 minutes going oooh and ahh and wow-ing. Compared to BWV, this room is much more spacious, esp the 2nd room. Aside from the pull out sofa, they have another table and 2 large chairs in the 2nd room. Since it's dedicated, the 2nd room's bathroom is hugh with walk in closet. I agree that they should have put a 2nd Queen bed there.

Kitchen amenities seem to be very similiar to BWV, though for some reason, I thought the fridge is much newer (probably pshchological). The dining table is right next to the kitchen (with seats attached to the wall). I'm not sure if that's the layout in BWV, as I can't remember. The living room space is similiar to BWV, and not as large as HH.

Comparing BWV to BCV -
BCV seems quieter. I'm right across from the quiet pool, and I cannot hear anything unless I opened the porch door. I didn't hear any noise from the hallway, or upstairs. The last time I stayed at BWV, off season, and I was waken up by vaccuum cleaner daily.

BCV's room has that tempurature control thingie. Which means, the room was always warmer than I want it to be when we came home at night. There is that red light sensor thing in the master bedroom, right above the jacuzzi wall. It doesn't bother me at all. I don't hear any click, but I can see the red light comes on when I move at night.

BCV's master bathroom layout is slighty annoying. There is no door leading to the jacuzzi / vanity area / walk in closet. But there is a separate door opening into shower, another sink. And inside the shower room, another separate room / door for toilet. Too many doors. The door that leads to the shower room opens outward, towards the jacuzzi. So this door pretty much blocks access to the vanity area. I constanly have to close it to get to the sink/ closet. Not to mention getting hit by the door when someone opens it from inside. I think this door should open inward towards the shower room to save space. No big deal, just something to point out.

The other slight annoyance is the shower head. My husband always push the shower head all the way up (he's tall). And it's pointing directly at the shower door. When I open the door, turn it on, it sprays cold water all over me. Even if I close the door immediately, the water sips out and flood the floor. You have to make sure the shower head doesn't point towards the door, otherwise, you'll have a flood.

BCV's lobby is less impressive than BWV. The ceiling is lower, and the place is much more crowded, and noisier.

Maybe because it's new, the staff seemed a little overwhelmed and the wait is longer than expected. Also, the road leading to BVC is not as 'grand' as BWV. We turned into the service entrance twice, and needed to call intercom for help. These service entrance looks like those side entrances in BWV (ones with card slot). But in BVC, your room card will not work, and you'll not know you're in a service entrance.

I like SAB's pool. They did ask for room key even though it's not crowded. But I think BWV's pool is as great.

BCV also has elevator at end of hallway (less walk than BWV), and it's closer to parking lot. BTW, it's much much much easier to find a parking space late at nite in BCV than in BWV. The bus stop is quite close for our room also.

My understanding is that BCV has only 2 kind of views : Epcot or Pool, and they cost the same amount of points, which is very close to the cost of preferred views of BWV. From what I see, there should be a 3rd BCV view, garden. Some rooms open into the inner courtyard, directly facing a white fence, and are less attractive. I think they should have the same system as in BWV. Couryard view should cost slightly less than Pool or Epcot view. As far as I can tell, there is no room facing parking lot. Some open to wooded area. The Epcot view rooms are in the back. From what I can tell, the trees are quite tall, so unless you're on the top floor, you probably can't see much of Epcot.

Overall, I really like BCV, and would definitely return. BCV seems to have it all, with BWV's location, OKW's space and HH's quietness. Services are very good. And everything is spanking new!

Any questions? I will try to post some pictures up once I figure out how to do it.
:p

Thanks for taking the time to give your thoughts on BCV. It's good to hear what everyone thinks about this new resort and it sounds like you had a good trip.

they cost the same amount of points, which is very close to the cost of preferred views of BWV.

The points for BWV, BCV and VWL are the same. BWV has the option to book the standard view for less points. The standard view and the oceanview at Vero are the only two DVC's that offer different point amounts based on views. Members forced DVC into offering a lower scale at BWV for some rooms because they were disappointed in the rooms that look out the front of BWV (although many people now love this view). DVC does not expect to ever get into the two-tier system again if they can help it.

Thanks for the great description of the BCV, I almost felt like I was there! Would you get the 1st fl again or would you prefer a higher floor?

Thanks for the report. As many others we're anxiously awaiting our trip in Oct. It will be our second DVC trip and first in a 1 bdrm.

Glad you had a good time

Adamak,

We were at the BCVs from July 11- 15 and pretty much agree on everything you posted. We found the bathroom doors confusing, too! For some reason, that bathroom layout is not right!

Only thing I will disagree with you on is

>>>As far as I can tell, there is no room facing parking lot.<<

We were in Room 378, a dedicated 2 bedroom on the very end near the staicase. Most of our view was of the parking lot, unfortunately.

I've stayed in a dedicated 2 bedroom at OKW on a couple of occasions and it is different, a bit more spacious, etc. but that's the beauty of DVC ownership...something for everyone!

Thanks for posting your experiences at BCV's, I'm anxiously awaiting our first trip 'home'.

DeeP,
I think I still would prefer high floors. I like balcony more than porches. The porches are pretty small. Plus, they have elevators at the end, so it's not so bad of a hike. By the way, I think some balconies are larger than the others.

PamOKW,
I didn't know the history behind the 2 tier point system. Thanks for explaining. It's also surprising if BWV still consider those open to the front of BWV a standard view. I stayed twice in BWV standard studio, and they pretty much facing the parking lot.

I'd like to see more 2-tier system though. I got a great pool view this time, but it would be a bumper if I'm in one of those rooms facing white fences. (Why can't they lower the fence so you can see the courtyard??)

Pinnie,
That's too bad that your room faces parking lot. Are they also noisy?

And I noticed the maid service carts are outside those rooms with better location daily. I have a feeling that as more and more people pay cash to stay in BCV, those better-view rooms are allocated first to 'regular' guests. That's how I felt when I stayed in BWV. Most of the time, in BWV, I don't get my room request, and I was put at the very end (even with preferred views).

It's only fair though. Not complaining. If people are paying $500 plus, they should not be stuck at the end facing lot.

I stayed twice in BWV standard studio, and they pretty much facing the parking lot.

That's why they went to the lower standard view point level. People came back and said they weren't happy looking at the parking lot when they expected the Boardwalk. I hesitated to call them parking lot view because some people take offense at that.

I disagree that people who pay cash should receive the best accomodations. We DVC members have a greater commitment to Disney than the pay-as-you-go customers. DVC members made a substantial initial investment and each year pay Disney's operating costs. DVC members return year after year and consistently purchase expensive park passes. Earlier this month I was told by a DVC CM that the Vacation Club is Disney's most profitable business. All that DVC members ask in return is that our commitment be recognized in the accomodations we receive each year.

We are just back from BCV and I would note for anyone with mobility problems: #78 on ANY floor is the farthest room from the lobby, but closest to handicapped parking. This is why you have a "partial parking lot" view -- you are way down the end. But access to the handicapped spots is great.

Also, there are definitely some "garden view" rooms on the odd-numbered side of the building. We were originally assigned to #159 and it had a small lawn, some bushes, and the road. I asked immediately to be moved. The view was really disappointing but mostly I was concerned about the kids getting anywhere near a street! The odd-numbered rooms will only have Epcot views on the upper floors. Our second room assignment was #412, which was great -- close to elevators, laundry, and a beautiful view of the quiet pool.

I disagree with the notion that cash customers should get the best rooms. They paid whatever the going rate is that time for a microscopic amount of time compared to DVC members.

Cash customers should get rooms after DVC members get their selection. And obviously DVC'ers want good views.

Stinson,

I agree with you! I just made a large financial commitment to DVC and hope that I am NOT treated as a "second class" reservation over someone paying cash!! We are committing to 40 years at DVC and WDW - $$$$

Maybe it's only speculations.

For arguement's sake.... wouldn't Disney want to allocate better rooms for those who are not DVC members yet... purely to lure them in so they may want to buy DVC? I dont' think we members should be treated as 2nd class, but I can understand if Disney is acting differently towards non-DVCers. Afterall, I'm not so sure if anyone will buy into DVC if their DVC-trial room is facing parking lot.

I did once overheard a CM gave Boardwalk views rooms to guests who are potential DVC-ers. It's understandable, right?

Room allocation is always a mistery to me. It would like it to be in order of reservation dates.

LSUtigger,

I second what BounceyOne said, 1BR's are great............you may never do a studio again ;)

The BCV's sound great! Thanks to everyone for the previews and opinions.

I thought room assignment WAS based on the order of reservations! I heard that somewhere... is it an urban legend? Am I calling 1800-800-9800 early each morning at 11 months out for NO REASON? :D
