Just back from BCV...Member Mixer, pool report, new beds

Hi all--

Just returned from BCV (Dec 9-16).

Room: Had a 2BR lockoff reserved. Requested non-smoking, upper floor. Now if you have noticed my posts before, I am not a huge one for room location. I am happy with non-smoking. I requested upper floor just to see if I could get one because I haven't before. Our trip started off kinda bad because Delta somehow shipped one of our bags (the one with my and my DH's clothes in them) to Puerto Rico. Their CS people were really not helpful. So I was really hoping that the room I got would make up for the crappy start to the vacation.

We got 157-159 and it wasn't ready until about 3:30pm. At first, I was bummed. But I know it was just because my day was already bad. This room actually turned out to be a wonderful location. We were literally around the corner from the door to the quiet pool and close enough to the parking lot to get to the car quickly. It was great location-wise! And so convenient to not have to go up the elevator, like I remembered from previous ground level stays. So if you get a ground level room, keep these wonderful pros in mind.

We got our new king bed on December 15. I thought it was slightly firmer than the one we had. I actually thought we had a new bed when we checked in because it was really comfy. We saw beds being delivered every day on the 1st floor.

Pool report...well I am sorry to say that all the complaining about pool temp has now made the pools way TOO HOT! It was like taking a bath. Yuck. While the weather was in the 70s while we were there, it was very humid. I really would have liked a cooler pool to feel a little refreshed. As it was SAB was too hot for me to actually swim around in. The quiet pool was a little more tolerable, but really not refreshing.

I know people don't want to be frozen icicles but they need to find a more happy medium here. I did not enjoy swimming at all.

We did the Merry Member Mixer on Dec 14. It was great fun with the DJ, characters, lots of DVC loot to be had. That event was so much fun. We will definitely be back for that.

All in all a good trip again. Can't wait for next time!

ETA: We saw "wet paint" signs up a few days while we were there. So things are being kept up. I am not on white glove patrol, but thought things looked pretty nice all the way around.

We will be checking in next week!! I hope we get a new bed and a warm SAB sounds wonderful! I dont want to be refreshed in December!

Also looking forward to the Mixer. Was it very crowded?

We lost our luggage once when going thru Atlanta also, it seems to be notorious for losing bags. We were going to Puerto Rico and our bags went to Orlando....Exact opposite of you, so I really feel for you. We never got any compensation from Delta and spent a fortune replacing clothes at our hotel boutique.


I am also happy to hear the pool temperatures are very warm. We are going down the day after Xmas and hope the water is like bath water, esp since the temps are suppose to cool down a bit.

I hope we get a new mattress, it would be wonderful not to have to call for an egg crate mattress pad for the first time in several years.

Well I hope you all can tolerate it better than I did. The water was so warm it made me a little sick to my stomach if I was in there too long.

I'm all for comfortably warm water. Honestly, this was too warm. It really did feel like a bath and not a pool. I understand not wanting to be in a cold pool on a cold day. Like I said, I am just hopeful they can find a happy medium.

I've heard that the little slide is kept at 90 degrees for the little ones. SAB felt hotter than that to me. It was definitely warmer than body temperature.

I was there the same time you were. The pools were not hot. I would say around 78-82 degrees. Just guessing. The air temp last week was 75 on average, so anything above that will feel warm.

I missed the Mixer! Totally forgot about it until that evening. I wish they would have given reminders the night before for people like me

I am thrilled to hear that the pool is warm (ok - hot is goood)! I will be there January 21 and hope the great weather holds out also! This will be our first time at BCV. It will be so nice to get away after the holidays.

When I talked to the lifeguards, they consistently said that the pool (SAB) was kept at 84-88. So maybe my 90+ is off, but it was the water, not the air, that felt warm to me.

As I said, I am not against a warm pool, and I am not trying to pick a fight with anyone. I was just hoping for a happier medium. But I am only one person. Just because it appears I am in the minority doesn't make my opinion and experience any less valid.

Hey everybody -- you have to know and remember that zulaya is a ex-swim-team member -- anything just above freezing is hot.

I was there with her, and found the water to be warm, but not uncomfortable in SAB, and felt a bit bit chilly in the quiet pool near our room, but if you kept moving, it was fine.

Zulaya - How long did it take to get your luggage?

I'm not Zulaya, and I don't play her on TV...but...

The luggage showed up the next afternoon at about 21:00. About 31 hours after it was supposed to. Since it wasn't 24 hours after the initial 24 hour period that our luggage was supposed to show up, we get no reimbursement for our new under-clothing. *sigh*

Thanks so much for the report.....we're looking forward to the new beds when we go next month!

Glad you got your luggage and that it wasn't permanently lost however, reminder to self here *pack bags with clothing and undies in each of them* in case one of them goes lost. That should keep us covered in the pantaloons department!! (literally and figuratively I guess!)
