Had a great trip and I'll write a full trip report later, but here's a brief synopsis:

Beach Club- great location, walking around the boardwalk at night was fantastic, SAB was awesome and a big hit w/ the kids, room was okay (few minor problems), the CM's at the front desk left a lot to be desired.

Polynesian- excellent location for us (small children), great rooms w/ more space than BC, CM's were fantastic all around.

If you have any questions, ask away!

Glad you had a great trip -

Did you find the construction going on at the Polynesian to be intrusive at all?

The only construction I noticed was some work on Nuie (looked like they were working on the roof/flashing) and on-going work in Rapa Nui. We stayed in Rarotonga and hardly noticed the work being done on Nuie. I didn't notice any other active construction (the area behind Captain Cook's was blocked off w/ black drapes, but I couldn't see any actual work being done).

Glad to hear you had a good trip.

Were there walls around Rapa Nui or Nuie?

Will you return to either or both resorts?

Did you have to use that code to override the AC at the Poly so that it stayed on during the day while you were at the parks???

thanks in advance! :wizard:

Nope, no walls around either longhouse. I would return to the Polynesian in a heartbeat any time!

As far as the BC goes, despite the problems I will return there, but not until our kids are older (currently DD 4.5, DS 15 months). Their favorite parks are MK and AK followed by Epcot/MGM, so for the immediate future, it makes more sense for us to stay on a monorail resort (aka Polynesian).

Yes we did use the code to keep the AC running...we forgot the first day but the room cooled off quickly once we returned from the parks, after that it wasn't a problem since we used the bypass to keep the room cold.

Grumpy'n'Goofy- I love your choice of hotels! We are staying at BC for the first time at the end of Sept. and dream of staying at the Poly in the near future. I'm curious about this "code" you spoke of for the a/c. What's that all about? Thanks. :confused3

I'm glad you had a great time. I look forward to reading your trip report!

Grumpy'n'Goofy ,

Do you recall what the hours were for Stormalong Bay? We will be there in two weeks and I really hope they don't cut back the hours like they did last year this time.

Thanks

Hi!
I was curious as to how you split your stay between the two resorts? My sister (55) and I (45) along with our niece (25), plan on going again, my sister wants to stay at the Polynesian and me the Beach Club, but we were wondering about the move between the resorts. I was wondering if it were tiring to move or it is best to just choose one place and stay there and then on the next visit to stay at the other. I have read that the CM's take care of transporting the luggage from one resort to the next. Did they do this for you?

Thanks for your input.

During our stay, the hours were 9AM to 10PM. The sign that listed the hours did have areas for the hours that could obviously be easily changed, but since your trip is in two weeks, the hours should be similar.

Certain resorts (not sure if it's all of them, but this definitely worked at the Polynesian) have an AC system that is motion sensitive. If there is no motion sensed (like when you're at the parks or even worse, sleeping) the AC will shut itself down automatically. To override this "feature" (copied from a fellow DIS'er):

"on the thermostat push the power button and the down arrow (that adjusts the temp) at the exact same time. If you do this correctly there will be the letters "bp" where the temp numbers usually are. You are now bypassing the sensors in the room. You can set the temp to whatever you want and it keeps the room that cold whether you are in it or not. The maintenance man said that you might have to do this once a day as the thermostat tends to go back to sensor mode ofter 24 hours."

For us, the bypass lasted for 3 days, but you may want to reset it occasionally just to be sure.

BTW, big thanks to whomever originally posted this information!

It wasn't tiring at all to switch between resorts. Just call the luggage service once you're packed, they will come and pick up your bags in a few minutes and transfer them to your next resort. For deluxe resorts, you do need to be in the room when they come to pick up your bags. We left the BC at 8AM and were told our bags would leave the BC around 1PM. Once we arrived at the Poly, we called the luggage service and our bags were delivered to our room quickly. One thing to keep in mind is they do seem to expect a tip to pick up and deliver the bags, no big deal but something to be aware of. Also realize that your luggage probably won't be available at your "new" resort until 2pm or later.

Grumpy'n'Goofy: Thanks for the reply...that's very interesting! We'll have to try it.
