Hi- we just returned from Beach Club & Old Key West! We had a great time, crowds were alittle heavier due to labor day weekend.

Beach Club: A little disappointing......Had a std view room and were on the ground floor right off the lobby. The location was nice w/ a view of a coutyard sort of facing the lagoon area. But the patio was so overgrown w/bushes we fely like we were in the rainforest!!! Very buggy outside on the patio. The room itself was a little run down, paint chipping on the ceiling in the bathroom. The room overall was definetely in need of rehab!
***But the pool was definetely the highlight! Our 3yr old LOVED THE SANDY BOTTOM POOL!!! We could relax by the pool w/drinks while she swam all by herself- it was only about 2.5ft deep!
***We also loved being able to walk to epcot and boardwalk at night!

Old Key West: LOVED IT, LOVED IT, LOVED IT!!!!!
We had a 1BDRM Villa and it was almost as big as my apartment at home! Full laundry room, full kitchen, sleeper sofa, loveseat, & chair, beautiful bathroom w/whirlpool bath, BIG gazebo style patio w/table & 3 chairs, 2 TVs, VCR, etc...

Also the main pool area was so relaxing- it had a kiddie pool, main pool, sandy play area, swings and slides. Nice bar, restaurant, marina, & gameroom/community hall with activities for the kids!

A very realxing resort- request a room near the main pool- it was great!!!!

(SORRY SO LONG)

We also loved OKW! We stayed in a studio last year and thought it was wonderful. The bathroom was bigger that the one at home!

Hopefully the BC refurbishment will happen quickly.
We are staying at the YC and I sure hope we get a redone room.
;)

Couldn't agree with you more. Our stay at OKW 2 years ago was excellent. We shared a 2 bedroom with my inlaws. Our stay 2 weeks ago at BC was disappointing to say the least. Pool was awesome, but the rooms were terrible.

Glad you liked out "home". We just came back from 9 nights in a 2 bedroom villa and every year (our 10th now!) it just keeps getting better and better!

We're headed off to OKW in a month and we CAN'T WAIT!!

I had already requested a building near the main pool, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

We are getting a 2br for me, my DW and DSs and I also got a one bedroom for my DSis and her family.

I'm so glad to hear you loved it...we've been DVC members for a couple of years but have yet to stay at WDW in one of the vacation club resorts...you've made want to leave even more!!! ;)

Thanks!!:p :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :bounce:

We are off to OKW next Sunday 9/15 for 12 wonderful, luxurious nights!!! :)

We absolutely adore OKW and we "rent" points (don't own). That DVC property is the best hands down in my opinion! The room sizes alone blow away the other DVC spinoffs!! But that's usually the case of most "first's" - but all the resorts have wonderful qualities or else they wouldn't make so manY!!! :)

We will be staying in a 2br and are desperately hoping to be in buildings 62, 23 or 64 (all near HH and the main pool). We'll see how it goes!!!

Just curious, since you are not a DVC member I was wondering-- have you ever stayed in the other DVC resorts to base this opinion on?

Nope, not stayed in the other DVC resorts, but toured the rooms and to me they are extremely small compared to OKW - of course they are "bigger" than the average hotel room - but very small compared to OKW (space wise). Just my opinion!! ;)

Honestly, I love the Wilderness Lodge, so I'd wouldn't mind staying at the WL DVC, but I'd still miss the "OKW" room sizes!!

Boardwalk totally doesn't interest me - and Beach Club would sorta be nice, but not enough "good views" there as far as for my taste - but like I said - TO EACH HIS OWN right? :)

Disney gives us LOTS of choices!!! :)

I agree different people have very different tastes and likes and dislikes and WDW does provide many choices of resorts for their guests. To make a blanket statement that all DVC resorts but OKW are "spinoffs" and that OKW is "best hands down" is simply not true. All the DVC resorts are wonderful and there is no best, just different resorts that have certain advantages and conveniences that another DVC resort does not have. They all have their pros and cons. I am a DVC owner and have stayed in the WDW DVC resorts except BCV and I can say this truthfully from staying at the resorts and experiencing a vacation at the resorts. It is true that OKW has the largest 1 BR unit, the other units(studio & GV) are very similiar in size at all the DVC resorts. Of course at WDW only OKW & BWV have GV. OKW also has the least convenient location, the fewest restaurants(1) and dining options, a lackluster main pool and only 1 mode of transportation with the exception of a boat that runs a on limited schedule to DTD. Does this make OKW a bad resort, no, it is a great resort but it lacks things that other DVC resorts have just as they all do. . I would hate to see others get the wrong impression about any WDW resort but especially the DVC resorts.

Magical Princess,

What you said about OKW is very true. Some posters get defensive about certain DVC resorts. Everybody is entitled to there own opinion. And your opinion is the same as a lot of DVC'ers.:D

Bekas Mom

Glad you enjoyed your stay at OKW.:D

Not defensive at all just stating the truth. There is no best DVC resort nor are there any spinoff DVC resorts. ALL the DVC resorts are wonderful, ALL have their pros and cons and ALL have their share of people that prefer one over the other for various reasons. You know what they say about opinions, they are like a*******, everyone has one. I was not stating my opinion of any one DVC resort one way or the other so therefore I have nothing to be defensive about, was just stating the facts. As I said, I would hate for anyone to get the wrong impression about any of ALL the wonderful DVC resorts. ;)

I rest my case.

I rest my case
I am glad you see the truth. As a fellow DVC owner, you certainly would not want anyone to get the wrong impression about any of the wonderful DVC resorts.

Peace, pixie dust and DVC!!! BTW, I love your smilies, the last one is really cute! :)

Oh my God, I had the best time reading your banter back and forth. But the best was those smileys doing their yo-yo, beer-clinking, lizard tongue thing. Thanks for the laughs:p

I have only had the pleasure of staying at OKW and Boardwalk Villas. They are both fantastic resorts in my opinion. We were lucky enough to stay in "Crest of the Wave" 5th floor facing Epcot. When I walked to the balcony for the first time, I think my heart stopped and then jumped for joy. There is absolutely nothing like that view--and at night--it is truly spectacular. OKW just can't compete with BWV's proximity to the adult hub of WDW. The Boardwalk, Epcot, fine restaurants, Studios and silly fun going on down below are just a few of the treats in store; not to mention the nighttime beauty of YC and BC and Swan/Dolphin. I ALSO love OKW for all the reasons the others have stated and it truly feels like a "home". I think that is just the reason I prefer OKW--it's home. I would like, however, to stay at WLV and BCV since both are themed so beautifully and offer unique vacation fun. Thanks for listening....Wilma:wave:
