Just got back from our 8 night stay, Sept 29-Oct 7. We arrived at the resort at about 1:45pm. We had requested a smoking room with king bed, standard not preferred. Well I guess if you don't pay for the preferred building, you cannot get a king bed in a smoking room. (This is what we had in Calypso #1 last year before you had to pay extra). We opted for the smoking room over the king bed and were placed in Broadway #8, quite a hike from the main building. We faced the courtyard and were very close to the parking lot (room #8406) We got into our room right away. I walked around a lot while we were there and I noticed only 2 smoking optional rooms in Jazz #9, although there may be more. As I made the long trek every morning for tea and hot chocolate, I wondered if it wouldn't be worth it to have just paid for the preferred bldg. But the cost of that is a nice dinner for us somewhere. I have to say I really enjoyed the theming of the Broadway section, when we were in Calypso we never really looked around the resort. We enjoyed sitting by the Piano pool at night, they played great music and it was fairly quiet.
Housekeeping was great, we left $2 every day and had no problems.
Bus service was also great, we laughed because it seemed whichever bus we wanted, every other available bus would show up first. But we never actually waited too long for busses.
When we got home I realized I had left my 2002 Passporter WDW guide in the bedside table. Numerous calls to Lost and Found have not turned up the book. It took a few calls back and forth for me to just get across that I had lost a book, not my passport! I was able to re-create my trip using last year's passporter, so I am not too upset although it would be nice to know where my book is!
I would definitely stay at the AS again, although I just might think about the extra $$ for the preferred bldgs next time.
BTW, I used last year's mug with no problems. I was not sneaky about it. We bought a new one for DH as our dog chewed his old one up. They are slightly different from last year's with a more comfortable handle. I also saw other people using last year's mugs.
