Ok, the poly is still my all time favorite (huge room, monorail), but I got back Wednesday from the AKL and here's what I loved (for those of you considering this resort)

1. It's a quiet haven after a long, loud day in the park.
2. The pool is large enough that it never really feels crowded
3. Can't beat the code rate for the standard view rooms. I mean we're talking deluxe Disney for Marriot Courtyard prices. (used code XOA and got the room for $124 + tax/night)
4. Bunkbeds are wonderful for kids who don't want to share a bed.
5. Boma, Boma, Boma. This place is awesome.
6. All of the educational programs about the wildlife and African fauna
7. Busses don't stop at multiple resorts

I can't say good things about the Animal Kingdom Lodge. If I could add one thing to your list it would be the beautiful lobby. You could spend hours in there and still not take in all of the detail.

I would also second the motion on Boma. We'll be at WL the last week in July, but I already have my PS to eat at Boma on our second night.

Hi,

Mom & I love AKL!!! Can't wait to go back in 2006!!!

Allison

We had a wonderful stay there at the end of June, but, we, too, are POLY lovers and will be back there next summer. We didn't have good luck with the buses and one night on the way home from EPCOT, the AKL bus had to share with CSR. But, the lodge istself and all the activities were marvelous. I am glad you had such a nice time.

i cant seem to find an answer to this: does the standard room at AKL have the privacy curtin outside the b.room where the sinks are? we have a change to stay just in standard room so we are trying to decide.......are the standard room ok??

Do you mean standard VIEW rooms? All standard rooms (meaning, not Deluxe rooms and not suites) are the same, with the exception of view. I have stayed in a standard Savanna view room and a deluxe savanna view (concierge) room and there are no privacy curtains in the bathroom area...I've seen that at hospital but never in a Deluxe Disney resort:confused:
The standard rooms are beautiful - the lobby, pool, restaurants, savannas, etc. will more than make up for any view you may have of a parking lot;)

If you mean standard "view" they aren't that bad. We were in standard view and it was okay. You do have a view of the front parking but there is alot of foliage in between. At least where we were there was. {Ostrich Trail / Lobby level} There are no curtains in front of the vanity area though. But if you are in the main part of the room where the beds are you cannot see into that area. hth.

when she gave me the room rate the lady said "It is for a standard view room, could be parking lot, bushes, etc. " thats all she said. What i meant was i know in the moderates there is a privacy curtin outside the bathroom where the sinks are, so if you want to change in private you can just pull the curtin back. i didnt mean like in the HOSPITALS.............lol its just a basic curtin thats all.

Sorry about that...No, there is no curtain. Good luck! AKL is an amazing place to stayprincess:

Some other amazing and unmentioned facets of AKL...Jiko. One of the finest restaurants in all of WDW. Then there is the dedicated bus service...Not a monorail to be sure, but it's nice to know you'll not be sharing a ride. Last and most extraordinary, the animals. They are spectacular! From the flamingo's to the giraffes, you'll always see something cool.

Over the course of our 9 trips we've seen (1) giraffes necking (2) a newborn Ankole (4 days) (3) 5 Zebras galloping as if playing tag (this was last weekend) (4) Wildebeast butting heads and (5) Tommy's literally leaping toward the CM truck. These are just off of the top of my head, but the animals are the key and if it takes large bathrooms, deluxe park transportation or mindless amenities (i.e surrey bikes, water sprites) to entertain you then AKL isn't for you.

Oh, btw, while the Poly has a great concierge level, it pales in comparison to the treatment and offerings of the AKL...

You don't nned a curtain because the dressing area does not face the room. It's around a corner.

Okay - now I'm getting really excited!! We can't wait to experience AKL for the first time!!!
