Just back from AKL...CHEERS AND JEERS...

We stayed at AKL between aug. 3rd and aug. 11. This hotel is worth it if you like animals. We stayed in room 3238 (we were upgraded from pool view to savanha view). We saw girafes every day, zebras and other animals a few yards from our room.

We have very few complaints.

The wait for transport to DD and MK was sometimes long (we waited 30 min. for the transport to DD at one time and 20 min. for a transport to MK at another time). We did not mind since we were on vacation but it seemed longer than at other hotels we stayed before (ASMO, ASSP and CSR).

The room was never made before 3 pm. We even waited once until 5 pm before mousekeeping did it's job. It seemed late to me.

The pool was very crowded (I counted at least 100 people at one time) but there's enough space for everybody.

Boma is fine but only the desserts are really good.

The CM at reception desk and guest service were a little cold but efficient.

Overall, a good experience, but we'll try something else the next time (POP in dec.).

Another victim of juice pressure here........

I thought it was just me until I read this thread. Here's how my morning breakfast at Boma's went down:

Server: We have coffee. milk, juice. It's all included in the price.

Me: I'll take coffee.

Server: No juice?

Me: No Thanks.

Server: Why don't you want juice?

Me: I really don't like juice.

Server: You never tried Boma juice. It's a special mixture of all types of juices.

Me: No thanks.

I get my food from the buffet and start eating.

Server: Are you sure you don't want juice?

Me: OK. Just bring me the juice.

Server: GREAT!!:teeth:

Server notices I'm not drinking the juice he brought.

Server: Don't you like the juice?:(

Me (on the inside): AAAAAHHHHHHH!!

I actually did not go back for seconds at this place due to this guy and his obsession over the juice. My wife and kids drank their juice so they were saved from the torture.

Jalva22 and Dalpal,

We did exactly this - split our time between AKL and Poly with our two grandchildren, ages 8 and 4 - for exactly the reasons you mentioned. If we were to do it again, we wouldn't move from AKL. The rooms with bunk beds at AKL were terrific and sitting out on the balcony looking at the animals was just fantastic. The 8 yo said, "this is just so serene." After the hectic activities in the parks, it was wonderful to just relax there.

We had a lagoon view room at the Poly and we were disappointed after being at AKL. The rooms are obviously older and smaller and there was no balcony. After being able to sleep in the bunk beds, the kids took some time getting used to sharing a bed. There was a loudspeaker outside our window that played music starting around 8:30-9pm, just when we were settling the kids down for bed. There was also alot of noise associated with the luau each night. Riding the monorail was fun and convenient, to be sure, but we could've ridden a bus or driven to the Poly and picked up the monorail, too.

We don't mind riding buses and had no problem doing that from AKL. Our wait was never more than a few minutes, about the same as waiting for a monorail.

Bottom line, we spent a lot more money for the Poly and didn't think it was worth it. Hope this helps.

Susan
