We just got back last night, we loved both resorts- we stayed the first 4 nights at AKL and 5 at Poly.
At AKL we got 3rd floor Kudu Trail facing the Arusha Savannah- saw lots of animals like wildabeasts, zebras, giraffes and birds. Everything looked brand new in the resort and the room was super clean, it had a refridgerator, too. Bathroom has a nice big countertop. I liked the inside corridors/being able to walk to the lobby/busstops without going outside. CM's were all very friendly/said hello when you walked by. We ate at Mara a few times and had b-fast at Boma once, it was delicious.
The transportation was good at AKL, they don't share w/any other resort which I liked. I was worried AKL would feel far away from the rest of WDW but it didn't at all. We like the monorail resorts but they share busses so it can take awhile sometimes.
Transferring out luggage was very easy. We just took it to the bell services desk in the morning- the CM there said he does the transfers himself. They put a colored tag on the luggage and he said he'd have it there no later than 3pm.
We checked in at the Polynesian around noon. The CM at check in was really nice, he let us choose our room. We wanted 3rd floor Fiji facing the marina, but it was full so we chose 3rd floor Fiji facing the luau cove. Our room was ready around 2pm and a CM brought our luggage at 2:30. The room was clean and had a great view of the beach, the luau and to the left was the monorail. You could actually sit in the bed and watch the monorail.
The new Boutiki wasn't open but it looks really nicely themed inside and out- they had the doors open sometimes late at night and it looked cool. They were working on the Tonga longhouse the whole time we were there. The day we arrived, the right side of the longhouse was all dug up- it was just a hole of dirt- by the next morning it was all beatifully landscaped w/flowers. We walked by at 2am one time and you could still hear people inside working on it. The whole bottom floor is covered w/a tarp.
We had a great time and I would stay at both resorts again in a heartbeat.

We're doing Poly and AKL in July. I like seeing good reviews. It sounds like you had a great time.
