Many of you may have read my posts involving last minute canceling of our trip to VWL due to DDIL's recent cancer diagnosis. We had decided that Orlando was just too far from home for us and so we were able to reschedule our points to use at HHI rather than have them expire. The big plus was we were only 260 miles from home and it would be a relaxing trip rather than a theme park trip.
I was disappointed about all this, but I knew it was the right thing to do. Then we arrived at HHI. And I loved it along with the rest of my family! Our first two nights were in the main lodge in 2 studios. It had a very Disney feel to the theming of a 1940's hunting lodge. The studios were clean and spacious with great big balconies with wooden rocking chairs.
The main floor had a big den with a pool table, a fireplace, a table for checkers. The upper floors had wide breezeways from the front to the back of the building. Every morning there was free coffee and in the afternoons free lemonade and cookies.
The last four nights we moved to a 2BR villa. My family and I absolutely loved it. It was pretty much like a 2BR at VWL on the inside. But the large balcony off the LR and master BR and the smaller balcony off the 2nd BR had breathtaking views of the marsh. We had a total of 4 rocking chairs and a large picnic table.
Some meals we enjoyed cooking in and ate them on the picnic table on the balcony. It was so relaxing and such good quality family time. Oh, and we grilled under the big oak trees by the marsh.
One night we attended a campfire and made smores. We enjoyed fishing off the pier, swimming in the pool and sliding down the very fun slide. I loved the hammocks. We took a dolphin tour and paid only $14 each! One afternoon we ventured to Savannah.
We enjoyed the beach house and the beach.
So a vacation that was almost lost turned into a relaxing week in an absolutely beautiful setting. The view off our balcony really did look like something out of a movie!
