We left at 4 am on a Saturday and stopped at Savannah, GA 12 hrs later. Another 5 hours to Disney the next day. No delays going south, but a bit of traffice through VA, NC. Coming home had an hour delay on the D.C. beltway.
Any travel questions?

We are driving from South Jersey on Sat. July 12 also early AM. We have hotel reservations in Brunswick, GA for an overnite stay. How much do you think this adds to the trip?

It looks like you will go an hour to an hour and a half further than we did to get to Brunswick. Not sure exactly what you meant by "how much this adds to the trip" unless you just mean how much longer the first day.

JFS - We're driving from Central Jersey on July 10th, and also stopping in Brunswick. I'll leave it in good shape for you!!!! Thanks for info BWVDenise, I was guessing around 13 or 14 hours to Brunswick, and you sealed it for me!!!

BWVDenise, that pretty incredible(12 hours to Savannah)! We've never been able to make it that quick. Where in Jersey did you start from, and where did you stay at Savannah?

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express at Exit 94. I have to admit, my dh is a bit of a lead-foot!:o We live right near the beginning of the Atlantic City Expressway in Gloucester County. We made about 6 restroom stops along the way and ate a picnic lunch at one of the stops. (We would have had one or 2 fewer stops but my ds got carsick).

How much further (time & mileage) are the GA overnight stops than our typical Florence, SC stop?

Looking at my AAA map and the notes I made on times, I would say that the Savannah area is about 2 1/2 to 3 hours past the Florence area. I'm estimating about 160 miles, looking at the trip-tick. Hope that helps.

WOW! Florence always seems like the breaking point when I have driven, so I give anyone who goes beyond that a lot of credit. I like to stop, have a leisurely dinner, and maybe a quick swim in the pool, not just park and sleep. But at least that's better than driving straight through.

We did have a leisurely dinner. We got fuel, had dinner, and watched tv for a while before we went to bed. The kids were tired from getting up at 4 a.m. and we were tired from getting up at 3 a.m., so it worked out fine. We were up and out by 6:30 the next morning.

Isn't Florence at exit 150 or so? That would mean about 150 miles to the SC/GA border.

At the exit for Santee (south of the lake), I think exit 98, is a delicious bbq place - Maurice's BBQ. It is local to South Carolina. We have eaten at other Maurice's in SC & were delighted to see they opened one in Santee, right off I95, in May.

It looks like Florence it at Exit 164 or so.

I drove from nyc last easter and only made it as far as lumberton n c the first night. I left at 5 am during the week. Yhis year I am leaving on a saturday and hopefully will not hit so many delays. Does anyone have any suggestions ? Thanks

We also made it to Santee, SC last year and found it to be a nice stop. The hotel had just been remodeled and was only $52/night and very clean! Not only that, we were fairly close to the Georgia border.

The Holiday Inn. The rooms were nicely decorated with Cherry furniture and the hotel was only 500 feet off the exit.:D

Are there any construction delays from GA on down to WDW?

You will always find lighter traffic on I-95 if you leave early on a Sat. or Sun. We've only driven all the way to Orlando twice. (After flying once, I'd never drive that again!). However, we have family in Va and drive I-95 all the time. Leaving in the morning, Mon-Fri, we always hit heavy traffic around Baltimore and DC.
