Ummm....first night...for the first...I don't know...6 or so hours of the cruise....

16-20 foot seas!!!!

Reading the cruise report on the tv with the STRONG GALE FORCE 9 winds and the VERY ROUGH seas....OY VAY!!!! They closed the pools early....poor little mickey lost the water from his ears and I believe if they had surf boards on the ship--many folks would have enjoyed the new Mickey Wave pool.:rotfl: :rotfl:

And the seas...I think they could have had an off-shore surfing excursion.:lmao:

But it was still a WONDERFUL cruise!!!! So whoever remembers the weather map on Sunday evening.....whatever that stuff was we were sailing through...the Captain trucked along...and in about 6 or so hours...we were out of it...and even though those seas were rough as well...it wasn't nothing like it was at the start.

For some on board perspective of what it is like in rough seas....

clanking of the metal decor in Tritons...aaahhh...dinner music.:woohoo:

walking in the hallways---grab the left rail....start walking...now where did that right rail come from. OOPS--sorry room steward guy. I SWEAR I haven't even started drinking yet. What do you mean that this is BETTER than what you sailed in last night.

Walt Disney Theater (the one with the shows!)....ascending down the stairs required a safety harness and cords.....btw, they make those arm rests way too darn low to use has handrails. I'm sorry ma'am...didn't mean to grab you there. Just trying to prevent my expeditious descent down the stair case.

The show curtains---cha cha cha to the left y'all.....to the right.....repeat....about 50 times. Man can that illusionist balance well!

Sitting down--you are doing the butt-scoot-boogy..whether you want to or not.:rotfl:

And the atmosphere...I was NOT counting on the boat CREAKING so much!!! My room....it really could put you back in time on the mayflowere with as much noise as it made.:rotfl2: But the good news--it only did this in those high seas.

Would I sail again...you bet your sweet bippy! I would just remember the dramamine...and bring my own. That chewable stuff tastes like nasty aspirin.:crazy2:

NOte: I went on a 7 day cruise a couple of weeks ago and didn't get sick at all. DCL for 1 night looked kind of like a Carnival cruise ship--people that had partied too much.:lmao:

Though not so funny---we saw 2 people who were collapsed on a staircase. I think they were ready to get off of the roller coaster ride. A room steward had to call for assistance b/c I don't think they could get to their rooms.

Barf bags were aplenty--though many folks still had some accidents as we saw several cleanups going on. :(

But still a great cruise and this was just 1 rough night out of four! If the forecast looks like it will cause all that--be proactive with your treatments and you should be fine. The captain will know (he announced it) if it is going to get rough and will advise you ahead of time. :)

And my youngest daughter got sick in the club on the first night. (very prone to motion sickness...though I didn't know it could get that bad as she was totally fine on our 7 day cruise). :(

Thanks for the amusing report! I'm glad you still enjoyed the cruise, in spite of the extra "thrill rides"! :)

My first cruise was out of Port Canaveral at the end of February 2004 (different cruiseline). We didn't have seas THAT rough, but the ship was definitely rocking. I had to get a wheelchair for my mom, who walked with a cane, because it was too difficult for her to navigate the hallways with all the movement. I took Bonine, but I still felt ill. I'm hoping it won't be like that when my mom and I cruise from Port Canaveral (on Disney this time) in late January.

OY VAY is right!! We were on the 3 night Wonder ending Sun and totally experienced the Strong Gale Force 9 winds and 20 some ft of waves coming back to port. The creaking and croning reminded me of the noices in Titanic. They got those noices right in the movie. I also watched the weather and conditions. I was watching the ship camera on channel 11 and 2 guys were trying to play basketball at 1:30am. The ball was flying all over the place. Kind of comical. DS slept through it all. Not me tho. I felt like we were going to roll out of the bed. Yes, the family pool was like a wave pool. No one could go out on the deck (deck 3 or 4 ship is to big don't remember) the doors had caution tape. The laundry room a few doors down from us flooded from the washers. Crews were cleaning for a while. Our stateroom was an inside room on deck 2. It was about 6hours of rocking and rolling. DH went walking around to check things out and there were worried people all over. I think I only got about 2 hours sleep that night. Took me 2 days to get my land legs back after returning home. Can't wait to do it again tho. :goodvibes

Oh Geez.....I hope the seas calm down in 5 weeks for us. My Husband and I were just talking this am about sickness meds  .
Glad you still had a good time!

From watching CNN on board--there was some kind of system above us.

And in speaking with CM's....the area around Port Canaveral tends to be rougher than the rest of the seas.:confused3 Sure enough, we felt some rocking last night, but nowhere NEAR as rough as the first night.

The previous posters 3rd night was the night before my first night and the night that the Room Steward said was worse than what we were experiencing.

I made a point to NOT watch the weather prior to setting sail. So it was an effort to figure out why the seas were so bad as it was NOTHING like this on my Carnival Glory sailing 2 weeks ago. The weather was totally different though.

It was nasty and rainy through the night.

If the weather report looks good, then you should be okay. there were some strong strong winds even for us Floridians at home and that is what was responsible for the waves.

That water crashing back and forth at the ends of the pool is a sight to watch... but sure wouldn't want to be IN there... ha ha! Only had one big surf one like that one DCL, but was quite a trip!

Glad that you had a very good time!

Holy cow! My mom was on that cruise with a group of co-workers and I haven't had a chance to talk to her yet today - she works at the terminal and had to go to work when she got off the ship! I had NO IDEA it was that rough!:scared1: :scared1: I saw the weather map and thought it looked tough to try to dodge anything, but I didn't realize the winds were so strong!

Thanks for posting this...I think:rolleyes:

Glad to hear you had a great time - I'm sure she did also. We were on the 9/1 Eastern together and commented about how the 4-8 ft seas were great for sleeping, but we probably wouldn't want anything more than that...:confused3

Hi-
Glad you survived! Look forward to hearing about the rest of it! But so far it's pretty amusing!!!

Sorry to hear about the rough weather! We leave a month from today...hopefully it won't be that bad. :worship:

What site did you use to check the weather/sea conditions?

Hi
Too funny :lmao: from behind the :surfweb: anyway lol...lol..
But I am with you altough funny now I guess not that night I did have a similar experiences in may 04 and that night I wish I was home but the very next morning ( sea lot less rough ) I was ready to go and I've been ready to go since then total 6 DCL:banana: .
Thanks for that funny trip report.

Me?

It was a channel on the stateroom television.:lmao:

I think if you go to weather.com or noaa, you should be able to get sea conditions. There are marine reports out there that accompany forecasting.

My husband and I were on the same cruise. Boy, were the waves rough! The 2 other cruises I have been on were both very calm, so I have been lucky since I get motion sick very easy (even in our swimming pool!!). But I always make sure to over compensate with sea sick remedies. I never got physically sick on Sunday, but was pretty uncomfortable. I think what saved me was my patch, 2 bonine and sea bands (or maybe I was too drugged up to realize what was going on :rotfl2: ). Plus I drank gingerale while we were at the adult show in Wavebands, and made sure I was extremely tired before going to bed and rocking around. The waves did wake me up at 4:00am and I heard all our hangers clanking around in the closet. Luckily it really smoothed out after that.

Other than that, it was a great cruise! And I can now say I could survive the waves (with lots of medication!).
