Just back, a few thoughts...

Funny story...whenever I was making my reservations I told the CM what type of tt we had and how many slides and said we would need a pet loop , she then asked me" what time my flight was getting in so she could give me ME information"...good grief...:scared1:

"Will you check the TT in with baggage claim, or will you keep it with you as a carry-on?"

FW check-in 101

When you get to the Outpost to check-in, your site is in the computer and so are everybody else's site who will be checking-in that day, so the empty sites you see when you check out the other loops might have someone else's name on the computer but they have not checked in yet. When you notify the Outpost that the site is empty and they check the computer and see that the person has not yet arrived you get the site because you got there first.

Makes sense to me.

Please don't disparage the Cm's, it's not a nice thing to do.

This will be our first trip to FW this October. So, you CAN reserve specific sites? I was told you can just "request" a loop, with no guarantees. But then, this is odd.... why would Disney put your name on a site, but then give it to someone else?

I am curious why Disney does it this way. Most all other campsites we've gone to over the last 10 years reserve specific sites for people. Yes, they have small print stating that the site may change, but we've never had that happen to us. Also, since we will probably be arriving later in the day (possibly evening), all the "best" sites will be taken? (although, I assume and hope that all the sites are good!).

This is a very different way to run a campground than what we are used to.

You cannot guarantee a site or a loop, only request. 3 days before, they put the people in the loops, that's why this poor person was put in preferred.

All this is why we always try and show up at check-in 2 to 3 hours early so we are at the front of the que and in 16+ trips have only rejected a site and got an alternative. Also, I agree some CM both at CR and FW front desk are heads and shoulders above others with the older ones being better, but this last time on check-in we had a gal that had to younger than either of our sons and was fantastic ... very knowledgeable and super efficient and told us we could go ahead and set up in our site even thou it wasn't listed as being prepped and when we got there is was already cleaned and ready to go.

It's the same way they assign rooms at the resorts. The info from the central computer doesn't get to the local site (FW or hotel) until shortly before the arrival date. When it does, the site/room assigners match up sites/rooms to guests.

The only problem with taking an empty site and having them change your original assignment is that the other people may have requested their assigned site/loop for a reason. Maybe they have a very large setup, maybe they want to be really close to the comfort station because their child is newly potty trained (been there) or maybe they have family staying in that loop or whatever. That's why someone checking in late could end up with something that really doesn't work for them.

So we all need to get there early. :)
