We just returned from a six night stay at AKL. Here are a few random thoughts/observations:
1) We loved the AKL. This was our first time staying there. The theming is incredible, the dinner at Boma was great, and most of all we LOVED watching the animals from our balcony overlooking the Sunset Savannah. This resort was amazing. And we didn't find the "distance" from MK, Epcot or DHS to be an issue at all.
2) It was HOT. Really hot. I don't ever remember being that hot at Disney World. We've been in July before, but this trip the heat and humidity were truly oppressive. 103 degree heat index. By the second day we gave up daytime touring and stayed at the resort during the day, going to the parks at night. We actually enjoyed this though, because it was different for us - we're usually rope drop people and leave early evening. Staying in the parks until close was fun.
3. We only saw one BTG, for those that care about that sort of thing.
4. SDMT - Meh. We waited 45 minutes or so at midnight during EMH to ride it. Once was enough. It's about 1/3 too short.
5. FP+ - This was our first trip using the new system. It has plusses and minuses IMO. On the plus side, it's nice to not have to run around grabbing FP's. Knowing that you're set ahead of time is nice. And we liked being able to change our FP's on the go. We did that several times and never had a problem. On the minus side, only having 3 FP's seemed a bit limiting. But it's hard for me to really compare the new system to the old based on this trip, because of the change in our touring method. Really the only thing we didn't do that we normally would have is Test Track.
All in all, it was a great trip.
