Returned yesterday from our first trip to SSR. At first we were overwhelmed by the size of the resort and were disoriented, but with a few walks we quickly became acquainted. It is a HUGE resort and if you don't like a big, spread out resort, this is not for you. It is just DH and myself and we happen to love it.

We arrived there around 11am and checked in. Our room was not ready so we did a little DTD shopping and had lunch at the Rainforest Cafe (had the best crabe cake sandwich there). We also had time and toured the AKV model room. Love, love, loved it!! OMG, two bathrooms in a 1 BR!!! :thumbsup2 And the master bath was HUGE. I SO want to stay there. We got in our room around 3:15. Room 9345 in the Grandstand with a view of the golf course and partial river view. Perfect! We had a 1 BR for 7 nights. After this room, I think we are spoiled...don't know if we could go back to a studio. Our room was clean and in good order. We loved having the kitchen even though we only used the microwave, not the oven. But good to know it's there if we need it. The washer/dryer is great. I know doing laundry is not what you want to do on vacation, but that's less I have to do post-trip, and besides it took nothing away from our fun time. We loved the separation of the bedroom and living area. We don't want to feel like we are in the bedroom all the time we are in the room.

My PRO's and Con's of SSR:

PRO's: Beautiful resort.
Spa is wonderful
CM's are very nice and helpful.
Big resort - perfect for walkers/runners
Close to DTD
Gave us feeling of "going home" after visiting the parks

CON's: (Only two. Nothing that would keep us from coming back but
want to note them anyway)
Restaurant choices - Was not thrilled with Artist Palette. I
people like the Turf Club but we were not impressed with
lunch there. Good to have DTD restaurants close.
Walkways should have better direction. They have the maps
everywhere but it would be nice to have markers pointing to
the check-in, spa, DTD, etc. Once you familiarize yourself, it's
OK but we noticed other newcomers needing direction also.

The weather was warm and humid with T-storms when we arrived, then quickly became Sunny and cold for a couple days, then overcast and rainy. The crowds were normal January crowds, but MK was more crowded by Friday (start of MLK weekend).

All in all, our first trip was fantastic and we loved SSR. Most of the time in our building, we felt as if we were the only ones there. We might have seen people twice the whole week (in our building). DH wants the Grandstand again, but I think we'd be happy with even the Carousel or Paddock. We just like the feeling of being away from it all and SSR gives us just that.

Glad you had a good trip. We are heading down for our first stay at SSR this weekend. Were you able to buy supplies anywhere, such as milk and oj?

Yes. The Artist Palette has milk, OJ, frozen foods, ice cream, breakfast foods, etc. It's expensive, of course, so if you have a car I'd suggest heading to the nearest Wal Mart.

Thanks for the report. Glad you liked SSR!

Welcome back! I loved the Grandstand section as well, had great view of the pool.
You're right, it takes a few walks to get familiar....but so quiet and peaceful.

Do wish they would organize the AP better.....with purchasing items in the gift shop/grocery area/and CS...it gets crowded. However, I love the decor throughout!

Glad :goodvibes to hear you had such a great trip! We will be heading home - SSR on Friday, Feb. 1st:banana: ! I can't wait.....we have a countdown calendar on the refrigerator!!:dance3: :cloud9:

Yep...pretty insidious of Disney, isn't it? They sell you with the great value of booking a studio, and then we make the mistake of booking a 1BR and BAM!....

....addonitis strikes! :rotfl:

Thanks for the report. Glad you enjoyed your home! :)

Our last stay at SSR we had a great view of he pool also, every morning my 2 year old nephew would wake us up saying, "Go swimming? Go swimming pool?" He would have slept out there if we let him.
