Last week we had a family in our home town here that were victims of domestic violence. One of the family members was my sons friend. The child is/was 13 years old. I personaly didn't know the child that well. Just waved to him when dropping my son off at school. The whole thing has just disturbed me to the core. My son says he's okay but he' not. I keep asking if he wants to talk about it and he has a few times. I guess it is just going to take time to get through. No advice needed or anything just very blue today and wanted to say something.:sad1::sad1:

That is just terrible....
It sounds like you are handling this just right with your son - and its great that he is talking to you about it. He needs time. He needs you to be there - but not be in his face.

Prayers for you and your son - and anyone else in that community affected by this horrible news.

 How sad. Prayers for your family and theirs.

 to you and your son as well as that poor family. I think a child's funeral is one of the most heart wrenching things I have ever seen. My cousin's son died at 22 days of SIDS and it was hard to explain it to my girls. Now that Rem is older (11yr) she knows what SIDS is..and I think Danny's death still bothers her (she was only 8 at the time) because she is VERY protective and paranoid about her new sister (2 mos). I am constantly reassuring her that the baby is breathing. It's good your son is slowly talking about it...I was amazed at some of the things Rem thought when she "kept it all in". And to have domestic violence be the cause is worse IMO than a "natural" death since it is just so senseless and difficult to explain to a child when it doesn't even make sense to an adult...

Make sure you stay alert to his emotions (as I know you probably are) because it will probably continue to affect him in the future even if he seems to be dealing better with it. Sorry, I know you didn't need more than a hug..we'll keep ya'll in our prayers..
