Hmmm...is it me or do you find the DIS boards sometimes depressing? I mean, not the Canadian site but rather the "Theme Parks", "Resorts" & "Restaurants" sites.

It appears sometimes to me that for as happy a place DW is supposed to be, these sites contain a lot of very unhappy people! I read threads about rude people, weird people, mean people, etc & than the posters on these boards seem to be borderline rude with one another A LOT!! If someone has a different opinion from yours, they are quickly talked down to & corrected; posters are disgruntled about what appears often to be the littlest things; they make rude comments & take photos of people that they think have done something wrong at DW.....I dont' know....maybe it's just me but I'm getting sort of depressed reading some of these threads!

I've even read posts where an OP talks about getting fed up with someone (or a group of someones) & will antagonize a member to get a reaction & than threaten them for one reason or another...than other posters will read the OP's story & congratulate them on their actions!!!

We leave for DW in two weeks & I'm almost afraid that me or a member of my family will make some mistake while there & than be the topic of conversation for awhile around here!! What if we line cut without realizing it? Talk to loud? Bump into someone? Make some "cultural" mistake? Don't tip enough? Tip too much? Eeeek......the pressure!!

Anyway, sorry for the rant....I just can't believe how often I'm in here shaking my head in disbelieve at some of the posts in here.....am I the only one??? And yes, before you say it, it is my choice to read them & perhaps you are right, I need to find other things to do with my time if this is making me depressed...point taken! :teacher:

It always amazes me what people get upset about on the boards (especially the Community/Resorts). If you look for the negative at Disney (or in everyday life) you're going to find the negative. Life is way toooo short to worry about things like refillable mugs. ;) Just last week my DSis was there and she was spraying the kids with a mister. She accidentally sprayed an older lady. DSis apologized for her mistake but the woman was very unhappy with her. I'm waiting to read about that one here on the DIS. :lmao: Just go and have fun! I know many, many people who will never get to Disney so I try to be thankful for the 25 times I've had the opportunity to go. I read those controversial threads because I find it extremely interesting to see how other people view life. Sometimes it's very eye-opening.:)

I was warned before I joined these boards that if you express an opinion, you are opening yourself up for flames, but I couldn't believe it. That's why I usually just lurk and try to glean the nuggets from the slag. Don't see it too much here on the Canadian board though. I guess that's just the "Canadian" in us. LOL

It's not just the DISboards ....... this holds true at any site that has "chat forums" etc. The nicest people you could ever hope to meet can turn into nasty, sarcastic souls when they can hide behind the anonymous nature of a computer. People can say the weirdest things when they know that nobody knows who they really are.

I have a lot of magazine editorial experience and people often sent in the snarkiest letters-to-the-editor, but if you called them to verify their name/address etc in case you wanted to print the letter, invariably the people were super-nice on the phone. Go figure :confused3

I very much agree with you!! I read threads and it seems like alot of them start out nice and then the trash talk and before you know it the thread is either removed or the people leave the thread and with the last word that of course gets others mad. Yeah I enjoy the boards but where i get the most help is where i just ask a simple question and I usually get the answer i need in the first few replies and I visit back to see if other useful info has come but most of the time it just goes off and it ends up being a debate of of whose right and whose wrong or who can annoy the other person so much they just leave the thread. Anyways I totally understand and I just see going to WDW as you go and have the fun you want. Don't worry about doing something wrong of course be a curtious person (but arent all us canadians curtious) but just have fun. I might however start a thread about how your having fun at WDW and Im stuck at work thinking that it were me instead. jks

Have a blast:banana:

You guys are the greatest!! Thanks my Canadian friends...you always know how to cheer people up!!

Amen Sister!! Really, I don't even know why I read some of these threads...they really do get idiotic at times!!

Don't see it too much here on the Canadian board though. I guess that's just the "Canadian" in us. LOL

Proud to be Canadian! I must say though, I've always thought of Canada & the US as having practically the same culture....after reading some of the postings people post, I'm just not too sure about that!

Yes, I get that feeling too! I'm sure you are right as well about most of them just being very nice if you met them.

Thanks for putting that back into perspective for me!! 15 days & frankly I won't much care what people are writing about me as I will be having way to much fun!!!

Thanks again for cheering me up!! I just don't know what's wrong with me these days!! Must be September!!!!

I think there is a part of us that really wants to continue the "magic" that we see at wdw and we hope that everybody else feels the same. A bad encounter can really harm a holiday, the same as an experience like that on the DIS.

For the reasons you stated, I am often a lurker not a participant. I do not want to be flamed and I try to express my opinions with respect for others feelings - as in real life. Whether online or in person, words can be hurtful and sting or give support and encouragement. The flamers are often lacking in other parts of their life or (if I'm being nice) having a bad day!!

I have found the Canadian Board to be extremely respectful. I think many of us lurk elsewhere and come back home for that Canadian Cheddar Soup??? - which I'll probably have for the first time in December at La Cellier :lmao:

You were right to post here, so glad you got the support that you needed.

It always surprises me ,how a simple subject can go off in a lot of ways the OP never intended or suspected.I tried the community board and it was really awful. There is always something that can annoy.just be happy that you are at WDW.

Ohhh...me too!! I just totally stopped going to that one as I couldn't handle it!!

Chester's Mom, you are right about more people posting complaints than compliments! Maybe we should try to do the opposite on the Dis....you never know, it might catch on!!

NARM, thanks for your :grouphug: .....right back at ya'!

Happy Day Everyone!!!! TGIF! :cheer2:

I like to visit the Rumours & News boards just to see the latest... that's one of the worst offenders. Talk about snarkie  (sorry I know that's not a real word ;) ) I'm always surprised at the levels of negative sarcasm. If ever I post, I apologize for my opinions in advance... just like a good Canadian :thumbsup2

This Cdn board definitely feels more like home :goodvibes

Hi pta-mom...Can you do me a huge favor (maybe two)? I've been on these boards for 2 years and I still haven't figured out how to do two specific things...

1) Include multiple quotes in my post (as you did above)

2) Break up one quote into multiple pieces

Help please :)

Hi pta-mom...Can you do me a huge favor (maybe two)? I've been on these boards for 2 years and I still haven't figured out how to do two specific things...

1) Include multiple quotes in my post (as you did above)

If I want to break up an original quote, after I press "Quote" to reply & it opens to the "Reply to Thread" page, I will place the curser where I want to start my answer, change font or color so it would be easier for others to read, & than type out my answer. It's easy enough just to type inside someone's original post.

2) Break up one quote into multiple pieces

Help please :)

As for how to include multiple quotes in a post, you know where the quote sign is at the bottom of everyone's post? Well, next to the quote sign is a box that has what looks like a paper with quotation marks & a plus (+) sign in it...when I'm reading different posts & want to comment on something, I hit that sign & than just continue to read through the next post & the next one, etc. I can hit this sign on as many posters threads as I want. When I'm done reading & want to now reply, I just hit "Post Reply" & all those individual quotes are listed one by one. I usually will than delete to make it shorter, highlighting just the parts of the original post I want to comment on.

I hope that this explanation makes sense to you!!

I too have witnessed way to many rude and negative threads.

I've gotten into it with people on some of the other boards. Over really stupid things to.

The best one had to be over me using the wrong terminology in reference to one of the 3D shows at WDW. I got ripped a new one by the other poster. I commented back (nicely I swear) and it went back and forth a few times. Finally, when I told this person to mellow out he/she went back and deleted all his/her comments. Of course all mine were still there and it made me look like an incredibly rude jerk.

Since then I either stay on the Canadian board or when on the other boards only offer advice that I know is 10,000% acurate. I only offer an opinion when the entire thread if friendly ie: Tell me what you thought of .....?

I RARELY visit these boards anymore and it's for the above mentioned reasons. The sense of entitlement that many people have is just absurd. They deserve a discount, they deserve Magic Kingdom view, they deserve a larger balcony, they deserve an Arusha Savannah view, they expect an upgrade, etc... It's just too much for me to take! I hang on the Canadian Board and I like to look at pictures, but I stay far away from everywhere else. It's lost that helpfulness aspect to me. I'd rather frequent any of the other numerous chat forums than witness the pettiness that goes on.

Well said pta-mom!
