all the indicators, orlando hotel occupancy, air travel, etc. point to a smaller crowd vacationing in central florida this year. Disney is showing a different face it seems. hard to get ADR's, crowd level estimates up. now i know some of the other things are telling, like reduced or eliminated showings of different events, layoffs, etc. but for the most part it seem like they are artificially propping up the attendance to keep the illusion that all is well. is it just me? or do some of you feel it. or totally disagree with me.

I was in DTD last night and, while I understand this is spring break time, the place was crowded.

I was at the Studios Wednesday night and the crowd level was also heavy. The studios was closing at 10PM, an indicator that Disney expected a substantial crowd.

I am going to EPCOT tonight (for dinner and the concert) so I'll have a better handle on the crowd there tonight.

I don't know...would Disney pay people to post here about how crowded it is there to prop up their attendance illusion? Seems everyone posting on the Theme Parks board is saying it's more crowded than they've ever seen it this time of year.

i did not suggest thati was just asking a question why does someone always have to get ignorant with sarcasm if you shorten hours and reduce frequency of events the crowds for that park and or that event will go up and make it look busier than it really is. they do it with ride lines all the time by changing the the chains or by stacking, which they do in the mornings at space mountain when the line is 100 yards long outside the building but there is actually no line inside at all, people will move on to other attractions and it spreads the crowd out. this is done on purpose.

I get to the parks quite often and they have been crowded. I don't think it is due to any "tricks" by Disney. I can tell by the parking lots, number of people in the parks, ride wait times, etc.

Lots of people are taking advantage of the specials Disney is offering. If you go to Universal though they aren't as crowded as other years.

Well, just got back from EPCOT. Crowd wasn't as busy as I thought it would be. Still lots of people but not "stupid crowded".

Felt like some ice cream afterwards so went to DTD. Now, that place was stupid crowded! Parking lots 1, 2, and 3 were full. There were even cast members waving people off from driving into the lots.

Once we found a place to park, we went to Marketplace. That area was wall to wall people. Things are getting busy.

I do believe that the crowded parks are a bit of a false indicator only because all the deals that Disney is giving means each person is spending less per day. If you are only paying for 4 out of 7 nights you are paying less.

Yes, the hope is that people will spend on other things to offset the fact that they are there but that is not always the case.

What would really be interesting is to know when the parks reach a dis economy of scale. There will be a point where it is more cost effective to have less crowded parks and cut the infrastructure that is not needed for the lower crowd levels. You'd have to have a lot of inside info to make this determination and lets hope it never gets there but it is in the realm of possibility.

As I am not ignorant, I did not think that is what you were suggesting, but since I wouldn't put anything past Disney, I was only kidding. I've been reading and listening to crowd reports that all consistently say it's more crowded now than is even typical for this time of year. If Disney was trying to "trick" people into thinking it's more crowded than it really is, they wouldn't be adding extra hours and shows like they are. I very seriously doubt that making announcements over the loud speakers that the park will be open an hour later than shown on the Times Guide and tacking on an extra Spectromagic last minute are Disney attendance tricks.
