What is a DVC member. I know it stands for disney vacation club, right? But what exactly is it??
Thanks

The short answer is that it is sort of like a timeshare but more flexible. Instead of buying "weeks", you buy "points". You have a "home" and can own points at more than one home. You actually have a deeded interest.

You can spend your points any way you want - nightly, weekly, at Disney or at any one of many locations Disney has made agreements with. Generally week days are fewer points, weekends more, holidays and heavy vacation periods more. They give you a book with all the point prices each year.

Example: My "home" is Hilton Head (HH) but I've exchanged points for Vero Beach, for several of the Orlando venues, for the cruise (3 times), and exchanged out for Hawaii, Atlantis in Pleasure Island, and the Regency in New York to name a few. Exchanging out costs $95 but for that $95 and some points I got $300/night rooms at the Regency. I have a friend who has toured Europe and South America on Disney points.

There are many arguments for and against financially but the way I figure it, it is a "prepaid" vacation for 40 years. Having the points forces us to say "OK, where are we going?". We also think it will be a way to have big family vacations when our kids have kids.
