Just a somewwhat humorous observation.

Does anyone else find it mildly amusing when people applaud at the end of some of the shows, say like a bugs life or the hall of presidents? Who are you applauding the animatronic figures? The CM's who lead you into and out of the theater? Is the creator of these shows secretly present and people are applauding them?

Kind of humorous when you stop and think about it but really just a little observation on human behavior! :rolleyes1

I not only find it amusing to applaud animatronic figures, I find it amusing to get autographs from characters!!!And I wonder if any frustrated parent has ever cheated at the end of a trip and they themselves have signed "Mickey Mouse" to save tears of disappointment in missing out on that all important autograph.
By the way,I'm an applauder and I will be bringing my autograph book, so this is in no way a criticsm, as the original poster says "just an observation on human, including my own, behaviour. :goodvibes

I'll admit I'm also a clapper - especially at the end of a really good roller coaster!!

I always clap when I've had a good time. Philharmagic definitely is one where I completely enjoyed myself and went to multiple times. Next MK trip, we'll prob go at least 5 more times. I love that one!!

Gee, what ever made you wonder about that particular aspect of human behavior?

I think it says a lot about the impact some attractions have on the people who see them. Isn't that what they are supposed to do? They're meant to move us in some way and people's reaction to them is a testiment that the designers have succeeded in their mission. It doesn't matter if the designers (or the animatronics!) can't hear the reaction, it's high praise none the less because it shows guests are fully absorbed in the experience.

I'm chuckling over monty's observation. Yup....standing in line to get a *cough* fake *cough* signature from someone in a bunny suit seems a bit odd when you put a moment's worth of thought into it. But there you have it....people react to the experience and that's the whole point.

...thought about it some more and have decided I clap because I am saying, "Heeeey, I really liked that! Anybody else?"...and when I hear other people clapping, too...it's as if we affirm each other's delight, even if we are strangers.

We are all partaking of Walt's hospitality. A little overt enthusiasm for the experience sends good feelings outwards. The CMs appreciate clappers because it lets them know "their" attraction is special enough that guests break out in spontaneous applause just from sheer enjoyment!

I find it refreshing. Even in the 70's when I was a teenager the audiences I was in generally clapped after a movie etc. I have seen a decline but over the last few years it has started to come back.

I think polite appreciation is always welcome.

In other words... I agree with NED :)

I can't stand when people clap at a movie...let alone an attraction.

OOOH! You wouldn't like to be sitting next to me then. I'm a movie and attraction clapper! When I really love and enjoy something (even American Idol performances on TV) I can't help but clap. I automatically clap and sometimes even cry because I am moved so much. Just call me a sucker for happiness! :flower:

Yeah, that's me....if I'm not clapping, I'm crying!

Me too! And flights that weren't even bumpy! :confused3

Of course, I felt like clapping after a recent redeye flight from Long Beach to JFK - I didn't have my restless leg syndrome meds and I was sure I was going to go mad. ;) :rotfl:

not a flame but why would it bother you? you don't have to do it so just wondering why you can't stand it..does it annoy you or what? ( seriously want to know as i never would have imagined it would bother some one )

i wonder if it's just Americans who don't. if you ever see a preformance of something from Europe they are all engaged instead of sitting like lumps. never really noticed who applaudes at wdw and who doesn't. might be interesting

I am going to guess it is an age thing in part. When I was a kid everyone always clapped for a movie they liked. Then as time went by it seemed fewer and fewer people did it. Too bad really, it is fun.

Clapping is pretty American. Europians snap their fingers and or whistle to show they like a show. At least in the old days they did  It used to be that American preformers had to be warned of this.

Yes, I know, I am getting old.

I was wondering too so thanks for asking. :flower:

As far as the clapping when the plane lands. It always freaks me out a little. Like those people clapping knew something I didn't all along. lol

Myst

I guess I clap because I am happy and appreciate what I have seen. :cool1: But then I cry for the same reason and generally at the same time!! I believe in my heart that maybe Uncle Walt is listening. :cloud9:

hehe, oh at movies I get extremely into it. I'm the guy who is so focused on the screen I wouldn't notice if a fire broke out in the theatre :) And I cried at Lilo & Stitch 2 (that's me being pathetic)

And the reason it bothers me is because the actors/director/editor aren't there to hear your applause so it's just wasted time. It's not like I "hate" it...it's just something that always gets  <--- that
