Just a reminder, check your Unclaimed Property!

About once a year I go to my state's website to see if I have unclaimed property (I don't know why, I guess I'm always hoping some long lost relative died, left me some money, and they didn't know how to contact me ). Anyways, I checked back in May and it said that I did have some unclaimed property (I just didn't know what). I hadn't really thought anything of it since then and I just received an email (you have to fill out a form and then they research it and contact you) that my unclaimed property was a payroll check from an employer I had 9 years ago! I have no idea how much it is (probably around $20 as I was a waitress at the time) but I just thought it was crazy it showed up nine years later (and that my address has always been the same so they [my previous employer] could've just mailed it to me). Check your state's unclaimed property! You never know

I am currently waiting on my unclaimed check. It is a payroll check from 1997!
I started the process in late June/early July and hoping that I get it soon!

If you had any connection to other state's, check those states too. My wife found unclaimed money in her maiden name in Texas from 1992. She lived there for 4 months.

What if you're not sure if it's really yours or not? Will they just check your social to verify?

Another good website to try is www.missingmoney.com My husband got a $300+ check, we're still not sure what it was from. I think it was from an insurance company. We took it straight to the bank. This site is good for most states.

Ours print in the local paper. We found a Gas refund due my deceased aunt (we were the executer's of the estate). They needed proof that she lived at that address or a photo id!!! My sister still owns the house but they can't release it to her either.

Wow, thank you!!!! I checked, and for ha has, I checked my maiden name in the state I grew up in and I have something!!!!! Who knows what it is, but, Im well into my 30s now, and it has my mom as been a custodian for me? Maybe this will make me rich... ha ha. Probably not, but one can dream right?

Good reminder

I'm still waiting for money to show up at my state's unclaimed property office. I got a letter from upromise letting me know they were turning over an old balance about 3 months ago... nothing yet. So keep checking back, you never know when something will show up.
