Just a note about the DIScars

I saw this on another thread and I think in fairness to zurg, this should be explained.

He approached me with this idea a while back when the CB was in a bit of turmoil (probably the potential of war coming) and thought he could lighten things up. He did a lot of work, putting together a board and asking volunteers to make nominations. I remember the first time I went to the board, I was amazed at the variety of people he chose to help out. Trust me, there was NO clique. There were a few mods (3-4?), but there were people who post on all kinds of threads and there was no common denominator. If people's feelings were hurt, I'm sorry, but the whole thing was not meant to be serious, it was a joke. And I think it was very nice of zurg (and RMD who designed that mah-vellous DIScar) to go to all that work, just to make some people smile.

People are too serious these days I guess. :(

I got a kick out of it.

I think you're right, though. Sometimes people just can't see the simple things in life for what they are.

Wow--I think it was a lot of fun, and obviously our Evil Emporer and RMD did put a lot of work into it, it an attempt to 'lighten things up'. I'm sorry anyone got their feelings hurt, but I really thought it was a hoot.

It was just a bit of fluff that took a lot of work to carry off. I had lots of fun and I'm sorry someone got their feelings hurt. Personally, I liked protesting with Saffron. ;)

Yeah, I saw a comment once that the DISCars should have been decided by the posters of the DIS, not the Mods. When in truth, the majority of the people "voting" were posters, not Mods. :)

I too thought the DISCars were meant to be fun, CC. Sorry they didn't turn out that way for everyone.

I guess I just wanted to say that I loved the DIScar idea, and I infact was asked to volunteer to help out. I am definetly not a "popular" one around here. I am so not the PD-type. And yes I occassionaly get "corrected" by a mod or webmaster. So you can see that the people who helped with this did not come from one place, or part of the "popular" crowd (if there is even such a thing around here). It was all in good fun and a bit of fluffiness that was needed with all that was going on in the world.

I think it was a great idea. Our Evil emperor did alot of work on it, and deserves a big hug...as did RMD for his art work ;)

It was meant to make people laugh, from putrageous outfits to goofy categories... :teeth:

The group over there working on it consisted of a wide variety of goofs...mods, posterws and even a lurker or two...no one singled any one group out and it was all done to make people smile.

Dan, we had our own academy awards night here...lovingly named the DIS cars

Oh, thanks, glo, guess I was out that night. Thanks for the explanation.

The DIScars were great! I applaud everyone that was involved with pulling it off. We should do it again. It's really too bad that some folks were put off by it.

I loved the Discars, and I can't imagine that some were offended!
We are still having fun on the riddle with our Discar! Each morning now, Bernie posts golden pants for the first person to answer the riddle!

You mean I didn't really win?;)

Of course it wasn't serious.:) I thought it was all pretty funny.:) I hope Saffron finally stopped streaking though.;)

I thought the DIScars were hilarious! Maybe it's just me, but I don't get all of the comments about the various "cliques" around here. To me, a clique is a group of people that excludes other people. I have never felt excluded by any group here. I have visited the Ya Ya's a few times and they have always made me feel welcome. I'm sure if I visited the Cheerleaders or the Water Drinkers they would be friendly also. Speaking for Bernie's Angels and the Riddlers, we love to have new people visit. There is no need to feel left out of anything IMO.

i don't know about them cheerleaders...they can be pretty cliquey sometimes...;)

kudos to zurg and RMD and everyone else who helped with the DISCars...i thought it was fun!! sorry if feelings were hurt over it. mine sure weren't...and i've visited several groups before myself..and everyone's always "accepted" me with open arms! heck, i barged into the cheerleader "house" and just never left! they tolerate me...:teeth:

I thought the DIScars were a hoot, very fun and lighthearted. Great job guys and thanks :)

I thought it was a riot and I hope to see them awarded next year too. Maybe next time I'll get an invite and be able to buy a gown for the event!

I just watched the Discars, I didn't participate. But I had a great time anyway. You could get as involved as you wanted, even if you weren't nominated. I think it was a great idea to add a little levity to our little board. Great work Zurg and RMD for all the hard work. For someone who watched from the outside, I was not insulted, put off or left out. I just laughed.

<font color=navy>I just watched from the outside, too, and enjoyed all the antics.... :)

I wondered about Bernie's golden pants - thanks for clearing that up. :)

Please don't put words in my mouth.

I NEVER said I was offended by them or that my feelings were hurt. Neither is or was true.
I realize they were all in fun and they came at a time when the war tension was mounting and we needed some relief from world events and human emotions and stress.

However, I saw what has always been a hot topic on the boards about cliques being here and I had never noticed them before (& have been laughed at because of that). I have never been involoved on a thread where I felt like I was made to not belong there. Ever.

Again, I have nothing against the idea of the awards or Zurg who thought the idea up. Please don't give others the idea that I had an issue with him, his work or the fun that was had by the people who participated.
