Although this is somewhat off-topic and I apologize in advance for that, I did want to write a note of thanks to everyone. As some of you may know, while I was at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City I received a phone call from Trina. She said that an extra amount of money had been deposited into our account. After a few quick calculations I determined it was equal to an amount Motorola usually gives for severance. It seems I had been laid off from my job. For the past three months I have been out of work and under a fair amount of stress. At this same time, we received word that Trina's father was not adjusting to his new chemo-therapy and if he took another treatment, it would most likely kill him. Being 1,000 miles away from her family and no way to send her to Idaho has taken its toll on her and consequently on our family. As all of this was unfolding, I received a call from my mother telling me that my only grandfather had suffered a series of strokes which have left him near death. She pleaded with me to come to see him since I was the only person he was asking for.
With all that has been going on in my life, I am afraid I have neglected many of you and have not been around much on the boards. Through this though, you have all helped in ways you cannot imagine. Raul, Donna, Lauri and Kathi have boosted my spirits with pins and e-mail messages which seemed to arrive at just the right moment. When my outlook seemed dimmest, someone would invariably send me a note or make a comment that would remind me of all that I have been given. Perhaps the one thing that meant the most to me was a package I received from Lauri. Inside was a copy of the map from the Animal Kingdom pin event. The map pins were wonderful and reminded me of a time that seems so long ago when we shared a laugh and traded a pin last August. I could never forget the fun we had at the Great Pin Adventure or at the Where in the World is Arizona Jeff and Mean Laureen games. Seeing JamesD and his lovely wife chasing us down to receive their stickers will be etched in my mind forever and who could forget Figgy nearly getting us all killed with her antics on the Jungle Cruise. On the back of the Animal Kingdom map, Lauri had many of you who attended the event to write a note. I sat and read those well wishes and comments and it did more to brighten my day than you can imagine. I wanted to publicly thank each and every one of you for all your thoughts and kindness. This is the reason I trade pins. Not for the colorful pieces of metal but for the love that each of you shows with each trade you make. This message is not a plea for sympathy but rather a letter of gratitude. To often we get busy in our daily lives dealing with crisis after crisis but I didn't want another moment to go by without thanking each of you for all that you do not only for me but for everyone who happens to wander into this little community. Your actions truly do make a difference.
