Just a lil vent on how ridiculous my job is

Well I work at this job that should not be at all stressful, but my managers have made my life hell, partly b/c of jealously b/c og my education and partly b/c I am not reactive but proactive and have pointed out some of the big problems.
Anyhow it had gotten so bad that I had gotten physically ill.
So to make a long story short, I have requested ADA accommodations thru my dr. and my work must comply, but we are still in the documentation process.

Well yesterday I emailed my supervisor that I needed 'post-it' notes, some color file folders and carbon/duplicate phone message book.................................... ............................................. this is the reply I got................................................................... well we will take it into consderation, but we need to wait until we get your specific accommodations before you can have those items....................

I just wanted to scream................ Come on, stupid I am still going to need post-its for notes and the folders for the files, and they are the one's insistent I answer the phone............................ but hey if you dont want me to, then sure I dont need the phone message pad.

It is just so frustrating that they are being absolutely petty....... reality is we wouldnt be in this state if they weren't so miserable to me.

1/2 the time they aren't speaking to me ( and mind you this is management staff) and the other 1/2 they still arent speaking to me.
All I am asking for is respect and dignity, they demand it, even though they dont give it..

I feel like writing the golden rule all over the office.............

Do unto others as you would want done unto you!!!!

I noted two statements in your post

I'm puzzled. What do you mean you are "proactive and have pointed out some big problems"? What's the big deal with your education and why is that a problem? Does everyone else have the same experience with the managers or just you?

It sure does sound like a difficult situation. I'm just curious as to why you have stayed on :confused3

Proactive meaning ................ my bosses wait until the _ _ _ _ hits the fan, then they address a problem, or make a procedure. Whereas, I'd rather fix the issue or find a procedure, before there is a problem. Big deal with my education, in my office myself and one other employee (neither of us are management) have degrees undergrad and post grad. (difference between us, she is contiually kissing butt, mind u she is still on probation) and everyone else in the office including all management are high school grads with no post high school degrees or education.
Y I stay I need the medical.............. and I refuse to be pushed or forced out just because I am not a kiss butt. The fact is 2 employees quit within the last 6 months, b/c of the bs and both of them refused to kiss butt and had been with the company 1 -30 years and the other 9 years.

Sorry you're having health issues. It's been my experience that most people don't resent those that are fortunate enough to earn advanced degrees. They resent those that think they are better because they have them. ;)

Ditto. I also worry about your communication style at work, as the way you 'talked' in your two posts would lend one to worry about having a business represented clearly in communications. Of course, I understand informality of the boards, and apologize if it's not the case, but it's what came to mind for me.

:grouphug: sometimes work is so stupid theres nothing you can do but vent.

If it makes you feel better, asking for post-its and a note pad and having them pull that is just stupid.

my communication in my post may not be 'PC', however I never put down or look down upon my coworkers b/c of their education. I definitely do not think I am better than them b/c of my education......

Which brings me to a thought, some of my friends w/degrees and I have discussed, ... people have commented that going to college and not going directly to an job, is a cop-out... school is the easy way...... those who go to college know... it is alot of work and it takes alot to continue your education in college, it is not an easy ride, but a real trial and test.

Now back to the work comment.....
I stand behind my coworkers/management even in the worst of conditions. If you saw me in my work environment, you would think I love it. I keep it positive, I put my personal feelings and thoughts aside.
Even when I sit thru days of complete silence, and 'punishment' when no one in management even acts like I exist I am a trooper and say nothing. I just keep on chugging along.........

Thanks watchincaptK for the positives.

It sounds to me that you are doing the best you can...kudos for being a bigger person than the other people at your work. I hope things get better for you soon :grouphug:

While you are to be congratulated for sticking it out....I'm thinking it's time to start a job hunt. They may be trying to squeeze you out the old fashioned way( make you so miserable, you quit ) or they might just be idiots. Whatever, you should leave there instead of letting them make you ill. Leaving an unhealthy environment could be considered a proactive move. :)
Good luck.

Try living where I do then. There are many, many vocal people who resent the hell out of college graduates and can't stand the fact that they tend to get more managerial positions.

Zoiebear: Don't let The Man get you down! :teeth:

I don't think the other poster was talking about being PC in your posts and work e-mails, but rather your writing style.

That's what I thought.

Also, I don't understand the need to write in huge bright letters - it generally communicates excitement or shouting on message boards.

If my job made me physically ill enough that I needed to have special accomodations made under the ADA guidelines, I'd find a new job.

If you have a master's degree, why are you the company receptionist and not looking for a job that is befitting of your degree?

I don't understand why someone would stay in a job that makes them ill. Find another job. From the tone of your posts I would say that you are the company whiner and people are tired of it.

I agree. Also, I worked at a large company and there were tons of people who started filing FMLA and going out on disability for various reasons including stress. It seemed that those people were then pegged by management as bad eggs. Mostly because the majority of those people just wanted some extra paid time off work and thought FMLA was the way to go. And, for the majority of those people, that way led them right out the door.

Zoiebear - It's obviously how much animosity there is for you at work. It's made you sick for goodness sake. While your perception is that you portray a positive team player front though, our perceptions of ourselves OFTEN do not match how others perceive us. Most of us think we are much better actors than we are. ;) Anyway, your managers are probably feeling your frustration and it's caused this rift.

The response you received regarding the office supplies shows the inexperience of your manager, but the chances of anything being done about it are slim. I agree that it's time for you to start looking for something else.

you posted about a month ago that you were only WORKING ON your post graduate degree. And that you were going to wait until you finished your degree before you run for office against her. :lmao: :wave2:

Take their phone messages on toilet paper.....

then they'll get you message pads quickly I'm sure

I was thinking this too. Now granted, I don't know the OP, but every "rant" that you post on this board is about how people are mistreating you and it's not your fault (ie- at work, got unfairly kicked off of another chatboard, etc.). It just seems odd that the whole world would be out to get you.

And, yeah- I think my manager would be less than thrilled with me if I told her point blank I was going after her job and then didn't- probably wouldn't facilitate a great work environment. It sounds like everyone at the place would love to have OP quit- and they are just playing her game. SHe won't do anything without specific accomodations, well then, they won't either.
