Does Disney allow walkie talkies? I have heard that you need a license for walkie talkies that range over 3 miles, does anyone know if this is true? Has anyone used walkie talkies in the park? How is the reception in the park? Is it worth me buying a 10+ mile range, or is it not going to get good reception in the parks? We have 2 adults and 3 kids in our family. Could we possibly buy 1 - 5 day park hopper pass and have our entire family use that in the same day? Instead of having to buy all individual tickets? Do they use finger scans? Any info would be greatly appreciated! :thumbsup2

We brought some with us in February and ended up not using them...each channel was swamped with other people so we could never communicate. They were fairly expensive Motorola's too so we were disappointed with them.

Yes they do use these and you are not allowed to buy one ticket and share the days on it. Each individual must have their own ticket and it bears the owners name. We have tried using the walkie talkies also. They are very popular and like the OP said the channels are often swamped. People don't just use them to stay in touch, they are used more like cell phones or Nextels. I wouldn't invest much into taking them.

We used them once and they are a nightmare for trying to get in touch with someone. Although i did have an interesting conversation with a very nice young american lady who we ended up meet for a drink.

We used to use them several years ago, but have had more success with our cell phones. Most providers give free cell minutes between someone in your "network" like they are either listed as in your network or have the same provider as you such as alltell or one of the others.

Money saving idea - visit www.tracfone.com about 6 weeks before you go and buy the deal where you buy a 60-minute card and get a free used phone with it. Buy two of these (should be about $40 plus tax/shipping, maybe $47 total) so you can talk to each other. Activate your phones and use them instead of walkie talkies. You'll only hear your own conversation, no one elses! Activate your phone online for 20 starter units. Add the pin for the 60 free minutes LATER once the 20 units are almost up--this will extend your activation time! Tracfone has no contracts/monthly fees. If you're confused about how tracfone works after reading their website, post again on this board and I or one of the many tracfone lovers here will be able to explain it.
