My wife and I are planning on going to the world for an adults only trip. She's been replying to the r/t board with no luck (although i've been a dis'r longer she has the higher posting number so we figured that would help). It seems like pm's are preferred so she's been using them; but is it better to pm and post on the thread Also, we want to go within 7 months so would asking anyone with points at any resort be ok? Thats all the questions I can think of at the moment. I'll ask my wife if she has any when I call her at lunch. Hope to be able to change my countdown ticker soon!

edit: just noticed my ticker should say we came BACK from WDW dec 17th

As the renter, you are not allowed to solicit for a rental, only respond to owners. In my opinion, posting in any of those threads saying what you are looking for seems like a solicitation to me. But I am not a mod, so my opinion on that doesn't really carry any weight.

I'm not sure what your post count has to do with anything - renters have no minimum post count requirements to rent. Unless you just mean that you think no one is responding because you have a low post count - I'd be surprised if that is the case.

I would continue to read the R/T boards and use PMs to contact the owners.

If you can't find anything, you can contact David @ dvcbyrequest.com - you will be a bit of a premium over booking through the R/T board, but the convenience and ease of finding something might be worth it.

I didn't think post count would have much to do with replies but since she has the higher count and i'm and "extreme lurker" it seemed better for her to contact others. I also understand we can not solicit but just wanted to know if there was a "secret" to getting a reply other than being first reply.

You can post a reply to a "Points for Rent" thread and/or you can send a PM and/or you can send an email if they provide an address in their thread. Some owners even provide a phone number. How you contact the points owner is up to you. If you do post a reply, please do not include any personal information such as names and ages of your family members, home address, etc. Advertising that you live at XYZ address and will be away on vacation during these dates is not a good idea. That information should be given to the DVC owner privately (PM, email, phone).

Since your travel dates are less than 7 months out you can contact anyone who has posted a Points for Rent thread with points that are valid for your travel dates.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info and I hope our luck is good also. Happy New Year!

Sometimes, posters do not get a reply if the resort/dates/villa size that they want are not available.

My advice is to post in the threads that offer points for a resort you would like a reservation and then keep an eye on your PM box as well as the thread. It is quite OK to post in more than one thread.

Good luck!

My wife's been flexible on dates and resorts by giving 2 sets of dates with 2 resorts. Maybe we should try being REALLY flexible. Thanks for the info though.

It may be your dates. If you are looking for something in the near future, like four or fewer months out, there might not be anything available. Or if you are looking for AKV Concierge, that has to be booked at least 11 months out. Don't bother with any non-DVC resorts - they use lots more points.

Other places that could be harder to get - BW View at the BWV. BLT MK View. AKV Value villas. BLT Standard view. And all the GVs but with just the two of you, you wouldn't need a GV.

We've looked at the availability boards and there seems to be availability when and where we want to go.We're also not expecting to get something that would sell out first. We just want to try DVC to see if we like it and also ,since it's just the adults, a nicer resort then our normal POP trips.

Those boards are better to find out what is not available rather than what is available. The only people posting are a few DVC members who frequent these boards. Don't use them to find what is available.

Thanks for the tip. Maybe we should expand our parameters to any room at any resort and hope that DVC isn't completely booked.

I think that is a great plan. If you respond to someone's post with the dates you want and how flexible you are in terms of resort and room size, you will probably have better luck.

This way, a member can call and just ask what's available, and then let you know.

Good luck!

Be flexible with dates and resorts if possible.. Be patient and keep checking the boards. New posting pop up every day.. Good luck....

When you say you are having no luck... do you mean that the folks you are contacting are not responding to your query? Or are they telling you they have already rented the points to others? Or are they telling you that the dates are not available? The way to proceed is different in each of those situations.

Back when we rented points from others for our travel, I found that it was best to do a combination of all three forms of communication. I would post in the thread that I was interested and sending a PM and/or email. I would then send both a PM and an email (if possible) to the poster, stating exactly what I was looking for... typically with three choices for travel dates listed in the order I wanted. I would also provide all information the poster needed for identification: my name and full contact info (address, phone number, email address) and the names of all those traveling with me. Also, be sure to post in all threads that are advertising the points you need, even if others have responded earlier. Even if it appears that the points would be long gone before you post, if the thread is still open, there is still a possibility that you could succeed.

Good luck!

If you are looking for something 5 months out (or later), your chance of getting it is good, at least this year, unless it is around a holiday.
