Just a Dream Away- The Imagineering Thread*Are you curious, imaginative, dedicated?

The new Fantasyland isn't fixing the MK's problems, its just distracting people from the lack of upkeep to several attractions.

Before the refurb, the WDW Haunted Mansion was in horrible, horrible shape. Speakers barely audible in some doombuggies, scratched wallpaper, out lights, off sync music, etc. weren't strange to see/hear. I will give them props that when they did redo it (for several months) they definitely stepped it up a notch, the new scene is brilliant.

The Space Mountain refurb was a joke...
POTC desperately needs TLC...
No more Holiday overlays because once-in-a-lifetime visitors will miss attractions...

I don't think they were having a major refurbishment for SM. They didn't have a special re-opening for it, because nothing much had been changed to the actual ride. I think the queue looks rather spiffy, but the inclusion of games in the queue is kinda odd, especially since the queue isn't like Soarin' where they give time to play a game. I also like the extension on the theme of the ride. I had no idea we were in a space port ready to catch a flight elsewhere until I read it on a website about 2 months ago. I guess i'm not disappointed because that's what was posted everywhere, and that they kept the Star Tunnel music :teeth:

What's new... They made a tilt-shift video for Epcot. Very awesome. They're changing Aladdin - A Musical Spectacular in DCA to Toy Story Musical. Can't think of anything else atm...

Yep.... The Aladdin replacement was pretty much announced at D23.. I'm not a fan, but I also think Aladdin is extremely well done.

They're having balance problems with the WoC platform in Paradise Pier lagoon.

Also, DisneySea is getting Fantasmic! to replace BraviSEAmo. Now I'm REALLY not a fan of that idea. I'm not a *gasp* huge Fantasmic! person. I think it doesn't belong at Disneyland, and has been chopped down majorly at WDW. The parade version at TDL, Fantillusion, was quite well done but has been severely downsized at DLP.

I know I seem really negative Dx

Here is my Super Life-Changing WDW Promotion

It's called the Suite Life Sweepstakes. Just like any other Sweepstakes. Winner gets the fortune to LIVE in the Walt Disney World Resort. Free entry to the parks, Free Food, Free Transportation. It's called the Suite Life Sweepstakes in reference to the Suite Life of Zack and Cody.

I agree, but I think the overall scheme of things is the warning of decline by degrees: when will they go too far?

Oh they're already getting bad numbers.
Attendance is up, revenue is down. That's not good.

It means more people are attending the parks, but they're making less money off of said people.

Yet Disney continues to push 4/3 deals and free this and that...

wow they are really losing money? I didn't think they could be losing with attendance but I'm guessing you know more than I do. And also, nice new avatar. it looks great.

Thanks :D

I'm pretty clueless when it comes to the economics of the Disney corp., but from what I've read it hasn't been so great.

Hopefully the 40th anniversary for WDW in 2011 will bring about major clean-ups, similar to the practically "overhauled" Disneyland in 2005 (all attractions were cleaned up, Classics were plussed, the park looked sparkling new).

And hopefully DCA's makeover will go well, too.

yeah when it comes to wdw i hope they go through things just to clean it up a little without completely changing everything. lately they have changed a lot of rides but they did the best with the Haunted Mansion. That's the kind of improvement that I'm talking about.

I just skimmed the article, but I know there are quite a few people on the DIS who have mentioned that they don't buy much souvenirs anymore because it's all becoming too generic. I read that Disney might make resort-specific souvenirs non-existent except in deluxe and DVC hotels, and that would be minimum as well.

There was something I was going to post newswise that i've forgotten now... Maybe i'll remember later.

Interesting. So less discounts next year? Better tell my parents to book that OKW deal soon, or we won't be able to go for a few years!

I remembered! Disney has hired contractors to work on the Fantasyland refurb, and I think they said it'll start next Spring.

There is a thread about the contractors on the rumors and news board if you want to go look for it

Wooties!
I can't wait for that to get underway.

While I believe its partly putting lipstick on a pig, I also think its one giant leap in the right direction.

That's where I got it from :p

In other news, Universal Singapore is starting to look quite good.

That's good.

I was a little concerned when I heard it would be on Sentosa (I lived in Singapore about 10 years ago, but I remember Sentosa vividly), because it's a small island pretty much on a small island xD

But I assume they'll be utilizing reclaimed land... anywho...

Merlions forever! (seriously.. check out the Sentosa Merlion... its awesome!)
