I think I saw Pete made a comment or checked in when he saw it, but I'm really looking forward to hearing their thoughts, especially in reference to the blatant piss-taking of WDW, specifically MK.
I was chuckling throughout the movie at the obvious jabs they were making.
Still loved the movie though!!

I keep hoping Pete will back off a little on his support of Sea world, maybe the blatant anti-captivity message of JW will make an impression that blackfish did not?

It's a hard balance to strike. I don't have a problem with Sea World. The organization's incredible conservation & fundraising efforts across Florida are not well known but should be. Sea World should be touting its on horn & drawing attention to its work throughout the state. That wonderful work is largely funded by the park. I'm of the generation (in my mid 40s) that went to aquariums, Sea World in Florida, Marineland (in Ontario, Canada), zoos & wildlife safari-style parks . . . I remember my father almost passing out at Ontario's African Lion Safari park when the baboons jumped on the white vinyl roof of our big old Ford sedan and started picking & picking :-). I walked away with a love & respect for these animals. I never saw them as objects there to perform for my amusement or entertainment. The conditions are not ideal. I accept that there are very good, persuasive arguments to be made that some species simply may not be suited to confinement. Period. But the animals that have become habituated to the parks are incredible ambassadors. The majority of middle class kids will never have the $ and time to go on whale watching day trips or exclusive travel expeditions to the Galapagos, etc. That is a luxury reserved for the few. But for these parks, generations of children would only see wildlife on television. And television just doesn't seem real. We learn to care about what is real. What is tangible. When we become adults, and have money to give to conservation efforts, our childhood contact with these animals does inform what we do with our money. The parks perform a valuable role in our society. Without the parks, many children would see these animals as fantasy creatures. Modern day dinosaurs. I have faith & hope that a balance will be found. Its not going to be easy. But nothing worthwhile ever is.

Just to be clear, I didn't mean to start another SeaWorld debate with my comment...I hope this thread doesn't become that. I just meant that Jurassic World raises those same questions again: animals as "assets", not living creatures; satisfying the public's desire for more, bigger, better; the almighty dollar above all; and even a little warmongering with the idea of militarizing raptors! Plus, the commercialization of the parks (I LOL'ed at those product placements and sponsorships!) I think it's all something we should consider and make our own choices. I kind of feel like Pete threw away everything brought up in blackfish simply due to messenger presenting it, rather than considering its finer points on their own. When does conservation become exploitation? It's the kind of stuff I like to think about, and I agree there has to be a balance found.

Princess Jes: "Taking the piss" or "piss-taking" is a very Australian (and dare I say UK & Irish, Heaven help me for saying that!) phrase that doesn't always translate clearly into North American. Please forgive us, but we don't always get what this means. And most of us just guess. Sometimes for the worst. It isn't a phrase we use at all in the US and Canada. I think I know what it means now - maybe? - (and God, I'm so old & maybe just figured it out a few years ago ). Please correct me if & probably since I will be wrong & miss the nuances but it means: "making fun of" and often in a somewhat, tongue in cheek respectful way. Sort of a taking the air out of someone who is pretentious or pretending they are better than others. But in a fuzzy, I love you kind of way?? Not hateful, at all. Please, Please correct me. I know you can & will :-) The English language can just be so darn weird when we don't get it. :-)

You know, I did think about it before I typed it but figured that it wasn't just aussie, but apparently it is! Lol.
Yeah, i guess it's used when you're mocking or poking fun at someone ironically?
You generally "take the piss out of someone" for example, Universal using WDW's recent injection of pandora and Starbucks and mocking them by placing it in their movie.
however, all Aussies love a good gag or love to be sarcastic, so it is also used in the following context:
Jes: "hey DH, let's just jump on a plane and fly to orlando"
DH: "yep, let's do it " (sounding sincere)
Jes: "really? You're not just taking the piss?!"
DH: "no, not really, get a grip and stop asking me every day!"
Lol.

Does "take the mickey" work better? (I considered this but the use of the word Mickey may have also caused confusion!)

I love exploring and discussing the differences between Australians and Americans!!

Nope. Not really. Most of us would either think of Mickey Mouse or mickey as in a little alcohol flask. But how great that there are some differences. Otherwise, our language would be so boring! :-)

I don't want to speak for anyone else, but Rhino and I have pretty much been gushing over the film for the past week and a half over texts haha.

If you haven't seen it, do it. Take your family, friends, neighbors, and that guy you can't remember's name.

I'm making an event out of going down and seeing it for the third time in Orlando with my friends just because it's that awesome.

This movie represents much more to me than most people though. The original was one of the two films that really sparked my desire to make movies (Shameless plug: I talked about that on the DIS Universal about a month ago and mentioned JP, tying in the parks if you want to see us talk some about it). Jurassic World is as much fan service as it is setting up for the next film, and the one after that. Great, fun, timeless cinema.

I loved it and it's not the type of movie I usually love.
Plus you know... Chris Pratt...
If only the script called for his shirt to be ripped from his back, rather than just having Bryce Dallas Howard rip her clothes to shreds (that skirt though!)

As a heterosexual man I was slightly alarmed at my admitted surprise in the omission of a torn shirt sequence initially. I like the meta humor throughout in the writing and acting though, such when she hikes her shirt up and his "what are you doing?" reaction. It's poking fun at the clichés.

Looking forward to hearing the team's thoughts as well. My wife and I saw it over the weekend and are ready to see it again!

Yes Pete will change his stance because of a movie about captive dinosaurs escaping....
