Has anyone seen or taken their kids to the Junior Chef events in DCA? I just realized that they will be happening two of the days we will be there. Anyone have any pictures?

Nancy did, she took her girls to this a while back. I'm sure she will post as soon as she can! :)

I'll probably be there this Friday. We've done it before at WDW and also at DL but this would be the first time at DCA. It's on the Bountiful Farms stage and there is a PP photographer there shotting pix just like at Jedi Training. :goodvibes

If we do go I'll post something here.

Thanks. I'm not doing pp this time but I could take pics myself. I think Danny would enjoy this if he is able to do it with his broken arm. I'm hoping there would be something they could find to include him.

I did do this and might blog on it if I get the chance. Tony also did this with his son and he put some photos in the Food and Wine Festival Blog on the podcast blog page.

The PP photog takes multiple candids and a group shot at the end. You can get them off PhotoPass like any other photo. They give you a number ticket and you see all the photos he takes.

It was really sweet, the kids were divided into groups (with their own adult helper at each table) and each assigned one task in the process of making the recipe. My daughter and Tony's son both liked the experience. Mine is just turning 4 and his is a smart 7. They give them a free Nestle Mango Bar at the end. My daughter liked it, Tony's son didn't. YMMV. ;) It

Hi Tass, we went Friday and DD91/2 did the first show. We got there about 15 min. before 11 and were the first in line. It wasn't too crowded, even if someone had shown up at 11 they would have gotten in. The have 3 tables for the kids and will keep siblings together.

The show is run by Chef Lily (she does a great job) and Chef Goofy helps out. Instead of making Tollhouse cookies as in previous year (and previously at DL and WDW) they now make Mango popsicles. (Paleta in Mexico-frozen fruit bars). All the ingredients are ready and waiting at the tables. We had only 3-4 kids at each table. After they added in all the ingredientes one of the kids sprinkles in the magic (glitter) and then all 3 of the bowls of mixture are poured into a giant popsicle mold. Goofy places it into the Magic Freezer and then takes out a giant popsicle. Of course, being Goofy, he does do silly things during the show.

The kids all get together at the front of the stage area to have their photos taken. Then they are all given a Mango fruit bar by Nestle. The bar given out has different ingredients than the recipe the kids do. The kids used mango puree, mango chunks, water, sugar and lime. The Nestle ones have Mango, cream, and milk. Very Creamy. DD didn't care for it and honesly neither did my DSis or I. Too mango-y, if possible.

After the show the PP photographer took pictures of the kids eating and sharing their bars with the parents. There were 2 PP photogs there. When I had our pix added to my card there were almost 600 taken during the (3) shows. It took awhile to pick them all out. CM at PP was actually a little rude.

I shot video of the show and my DSis took pictures. I'll get them from her and post them here shortly.

Show took just under 15 min. to do (more like 12). My DD at 9 1/2 was the oldest there and a little bored. I don't think I'll be able to get her to do it again. (They grow up so fast! :scared1:)

They were selling them at the ice cream cart at the entrance to condor flats as a special item like the lobster roll and the sliders for the Food and Wine Festival. It is a paleta made for the Hispanic market and a corporate attempt to copy the paletas sold by street vendors. Not like a real paleta but still a nice change from ice cream.

Gluten-Free Kosher Nut Allergen-Free
Contains corn and seaweed and some have carob.

Thanks for the review Disneydaz. I think we will try it on one of the days if we are in the area but I probably won't go out of my way for it now. I doubt my son would like the actual popsicle too but he would probably still enjoy the activity.
