Our day started with the boat that I had originally booked with having mechanical problems and my tour being cancelled. Captain Harry from Weather Permitting graciously offered to help us find a similar quality tour. I was worried he wouldn't be able to find us one, but luckily Captain Alan was available - and would depart only 15 minutes later than originally planned!
We were picked up at the cruise ship and driven to Auke Bay to board the boat. Captain Alan met us at the car and was immediately engaging. We waited shortly for the other couple who would join us and we were off! We did a safety briefing went upstairs and headed out on the water. Captain Alan explained everything that we would see on our adventure. The water was very calm, we were able to see the tops of the mountains, and it was a warm day.
We were one of the first boats out, so we needed to do some scouting for whales. It took a bit, but we were rewarded! We saw about 13 or 14 humpback whales during our voyage. The whales were very close to our boat and the viewing opportunities were amazing. Having only 6 total people on the boat offered an amazing experience! We also got to see sea lions and porpoises. At one point the sea lions were even playing with the whales which was incredible to see.
Overall, this was an excellent experience! It was obvious that Captain Alan truly enjoys his work and he made our experience even better. We wouldn't hesitate to book another tour with Adventures in Alaska!
