Hey everyone!! We are going to DL the last week of June. How busy is it. Also how hot is it. Thank you June 26-July 2ND

This time might be a very very busy time to go because:

a) Only the lowest AP (annual pass) holders are blocked out. Because there are an upwards of a million AP holders, they affect crowd patterns significantly. Since there's still a lot that aren't blocked out during the last week of June, combined with it being summer = large crowds.

b) World of Color, a new water show premiering at DCA in the spring, especially will bring large crowds.

c) It's the beginning of summer season = entertainment begins running in full swing, including Fantasmic and the Electric Parade. AP holders who want to see these while they are out for vacation but before their passes are blocked out will storm to the parks.

However, the pluses are that DL should be open from 8AM-12AM every day and DCA 10AM-9/10PM. Also, entertainment is running nightly and every ride should be open.

:scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1: noooooooooo When are the block out dates? I am so used to going to DW when there isn't a crowd. When do you think is a good time?

SoCal Select will be blocked starting June 23 and the regular SoCal Pass won't be blocked until July 3. This year, July was less crowded.

I agree with the Previous Posters. I would visit when both SoCal APs are blocked out.

The blockout dates for the two SoCal APs have really been affecting the crowds in DL. This year DL wasn't very crowded on the Fourth of July and Thanksgiving weekend (both times the two SoCal APs were blocked out).

I agree with all the other experts here! :) Based on well documented recent history...

From this recent thread http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2348402

...there are some forces at work which are increasing June crowds.

One is the growth in AP holders now reaching 1,000,000. See New Al Lutz: AP Holders Nearing 1 Million, Captain EO to Return in Feb

Last June things got pretty swamped after June 12. See Al Lutz June 16 Update - Nightastic Crowds.

Also, the new World of Color show to open in late April will draw large crowds to DLR and especially DCA in May and June. See Al Lutz - New DLR Prez, World of Color to open April 24, Passes needed to see WoC?. Captain EO will draw crowds to DL itself.

Also to keep in mind are grad nights - "The Scoop on Grad Nights at DLR in May and June" - www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2298400

I don't know what I am gonna do now lol. DH is in the Army and he just can't put in to be off. I wanna carry on our family tradition and go once a year. maybe we will just stay around here. We are new to the Seattle area and I'm sure we can see something out.

Last year we went the last week of June and a little into July. At that time the first part of our trip was very crowded because Socal APs were about to be blocked out. After they were blocked out, it was like night and day and it felt very uncrowded.

I will say this though: Even though it was crowded, we still never spent longer than 20 min in any one line and we got on many rides in one day. The main thing to do is to get there at the gates about 30 minutes before park opening. Mornings are very nice even on crowded days. Go to DL first, not DCA which opens later (unless they change the times next summer). The other thing that helped was picking up FPs every time the window opened. You can use them or save them for later after the time on the ticket. So, if you can only go during that time, just keep those things in mind and I think it will be tolerable.

World of Color does add a new ingredient to the mix but it might even cause DL to be less crowded in the evenings. We will have to see what happens. But for us, after last summer, we decided that we would go this year end of July or start of August. If we get APs again, we can go the summer after in July on the same AP and still miss the Socal AP crowds.

We might just change our dates. June 31 through July 5Th. I've have changed the hotel from the Jolly Rodger to the HOJO park side room. I got it dirt cheap because of the work from home travel agent price. But I kinda want to book the whole thing through Disney. Bit sure what to do.

I am not sure that July 4th will be as un-crowded (this year, aside from fireworks, it was unexpectedly un-crowded due to so many APs being blocked). I do think the economy is getting a little better, which MAY encourage people to stop buying APs and start visiting Disneyland LESS often, but perhaps during big holiday periods.

June only has 30 days so I hope you meant your trip starts 6/30 or 7/1. Otherwise, you're paying for a day you can't use. ;)

For HoJo, the park-side rooms are in theory a little more magical because the view is pretty nice and cheerful. That said, I actually overall had a better time in the lowest-level "garden-view?" rooms (with two "oversized double" beds). The room was older, but it actually had two sinks (our more expensive "park-side" room only had one) and the electrical outlets all worked (in the "park-side room most of them were very loose and wouldn't charge our items). In fairness, we also didn't need to run the heater/AC as we had in June (the AC was very noisy in the park-side room, and the (very old-fashioned window unit) heater was also noisy in our room and I don't think it had a thermostat? but we only used it once, and not overnight).

And the "oversized double" beds felt many times smaller than a queen bed to me--they're probably fine for two kids, or two adults who normally share a bed (and enjoy it ;) ), but I didn't like them for two adults who do not normally share a bed. They really looked tiny to me when we got in.

("Oversized double" appears to mean that the bed is 5 inches LONGER than a regular double, but not any wider. The claim that the beds are only 6" narrower than a regular queen bed appears to be accurate, but that 6" made a huge difference for us. The rooms we had in June had queen beds and it was comfortable to share one of those with someone. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_big_is_a_queen-sized_bed )

I also bought and brought a 14 foot Ethernet cord, which was long enough to let me use my laptop at the table by the window instead of on the nightstand, which was a big help.

We did not have a park view but if we looked out our window we could see the monorail tracks! :)

The service was great, the room was fine, and the price was great, so I was quite satisfied. :)

I'm cheap and would almost never stay on-site. Hojo is a similar walk as to some of the farthest rooms at "on-property" hotels. I'm starting to wonder if an on-property stay is a better deal for crowded time periods, since you can still experience the magic while getting away from the crowds. For a period when crowds are light, I think on-property is a worse value--we didn't take a single mid-afternoon break for our recent December trip, when the crowds were light to medium the whole time we were there. :)

We are keeping the same dated. Called Hojo a bit ago and it was booked on july 4th. So oh well. I'm not that much worried about crowds anymore. I just wanna go. Oppps about the 31st lol I did mean the 30th lol

Yep! Exactly why I'm tentatively planning our next overnight trip for June 23-25th. The kids will be out of school, I'll have just finished up and be off for the summer, and we won't be there on the 26th when Deluxe APs are blocked. Now I just need to let DH know our travel plans! :lmao:
