We have always been able to avoid going to WDW during the summer, however, my sister just got a teaching position so her family now has to go during that time. (Our families usually go together). I know alot of teachers read these boards and I was wondering about their thoughts about when to go, late June or late August? We really don't want to go in July. Any thoughts would be appreciated (and not just from teachers, all of you Disney experts have great ideas!) TIA!

We've gone in late June and also in July. Both are very crowded. We're going in late August this year, in part due to others on these boards who have said the crowds are more manageable then. Schools in some parts of the country are already back in session by then. I guess we'll find out.;)

Congrats on your sister's new teaching job!! I'm a teacher too, and we choose to go beginning to mid August for a few reasons: It gives us something to look forward to all summer, and we can save a few bucks (hopefully) before we go. We avoid late August because it runs into value season. While it is a bit cheaper, I don't like how the parks close so early--that's the tradeoff. I beginning to mid August has longer park hours.

Of the 3 months, June/July/August.. it rains the most in August. It is also scorchingly hot. But, most Florida kids start school the 3rd week of August, so the crowds can be more manageable.

I personally would probably go in June.

If you are going to gop in August, it must be the last week after kids go back to school. In august it is the hottesr month of the year and the most rain. If you can go in early June you are better off because some kids are still in school and it is not scorching hot.(although it is always hot in Florida). Hope this helps.

My dh is a teacher so we are used to going on vacation when everybody else does - we went last year in August (early) and are going again this year. We had a great time and did not think that the crowds were too bad at all - we expected way worse. It is hot that's for darn sure - and we had a thunderstorm in the afternoon on a couple of days but all in all it was GREAT and very different from life in Southern California!!!!

We are going end of August for the same reasons as GG. Here is a website with the average historical weather info. for June and August. There is only a degree or two separating the two months. I had several friends that went beginning of June and said it rained the entire week. The weather is always a crapshoot. You just have to hope for the best and deal with the worst.

My mother is a teacher so we're restricted to summer hours as well. We did August and the heat was unbearable at times and there were a lot of big groups there (first week of August) so MK was really crowded.

After that experience, we started going in June and now go as soon as school is out. Thus, we're leaving June 14. We've never had the problem with the crowds, although there are a lot of people. Whatever park has early open hours, we avoid that park and try to go to MK during the week. We also make it a habit of coming back to the resort between 2 and 4 to swim and then go back to the parks at night. We usually experience a brief shower in the afternoon in June, but it cools you off and we just keep on going; there's never been an all-day rain when we were there in June and we've missed true hurricane season.

I would June or August is best bet. Go the first two weeks in August because the parks stay open later. June is also a good month to to.

It really comes down to people personnel tastes. I happen to like hot weather so I go into the summer because I just a job as teacher assistsent so I have to in the summer. I just pick a month just go. You will still have a good time.

I hope that helps.

I think that late August would be better, as far as the crowds go. Many schools have off, from early June until early August, so if you go later in the summer, some of those families will be at home with the kids in school. You might be able to avoid more crowds that way...
Cheers!
