June or August?

Last year my family went to WDW during the first week in June. We have not planned our summer vacation yet, believe it or not, but are intrigued by the free dining plan in Aug/Sept. Has anyone been in both June and August can can compare the heat factor for me. If we go, it would be the last week of August/first of Sept to the weekend before Labor Day. Should I try it, or wait til June next year? As much as we might not love it due to the high temps, we have to take a Disney vacation in the summer. Thanks for all of your opinions.
:)

I've been in June and August, and August is definitely a bit hotter but not unbearably so. Then again, I'm from Maine so anything above 80 is wicked hot to me.

We went in August two years ago and our trip was interrupted by a hurricane. It was the end of our two week vacation though and we'd seen everything we had planned to see so it wasn't a problem being stuck in the hotel for two days. Our flight home was cancelled because the airport was closed so we ended up staying a few extra days and our kids missed the first day of school (a great bonus in their eyes). We're from Washington State (it rarely gets above 90 here and there isn't much humidity although it's been more humid the last few years). My youngest daughter doesn't usually deal well with the heat here so I wasn't sure how it'd be for her at WDW but she was fine and we never even went back to the room for naps during the afternoons--we just kept going. I didn't think it was bad at all and it rained most afternoons so we just got wet and that cooled us off a little. Most of the lines are in the shade and it seems like a lot of the inside lines have AC so it didn't feel like we were in the heat all day.

Hi!

I have been the first week of June and in August and it was much hotter in August. (It was still hot in June, though). It was also a bit more crowded in June than in August.

Hope that helps.

I live here, 2 hours from the Mouse on the coast and I can attest to it being hotter in August than June. Not by too much though. I would be more concerned about hurricanes spoiling my plans then heat since these past few years have been very active hurricane ~ wise around here. August and September they seem to pick up.

As far as crowds, going later in August would allow you to avoid most local kids since we go back to school here in the first 2 weeks of August. Legislature is trying to change that date, which would be welcome to me. I'd rather be on the northern schedule of start times after labor day.

Thanks for your responses. I still can't decide what to do! It's pretty bad that we haven't even planned our summer vacation yet. I am originally from Houston, so I know about the hot and humid summers. I thought last June was hot in WDW, but I guess if there are fewer people you can get out of the heat more quickly. We also didn't hit the water parks last year, so that would be another way to cool off. I am worried about hurricanes, though, especially if it affects our ability to leave (we are thinking of driving - we live in VA).

We went the first week of August last year. Just got back from a 6-8 to 6-18 trip earlier this week.

It seemed to us that the crowds were a little less in June than August and it was a little bit cooler (we did have a couple of days around 96 degrees in June).

That being said, we didn't find August to be terrible. We took advantage of early entry and use of fast passes to minimize waiting time. We always packed a few bottles of water with us and refilled at the water fountains as needed. If this is what you all want to do I say "Go for it" :)

I agree with the posters about Hurricane season. That could be a real problem. Having said that, it usually keeps crowds down as well.
