June or August 2017?????

We are yearly WDW visitors but would like to go to DL in 2017. We are pretty limited by our college student's schedule so we feel like we can only go during the summer. What dates/month would you DL vets recommend? From what I've read July seems pretty busy. So we were thinking June or August.
We would also like to see Paint the Night but can't seem to find when it will be there. We have seen MSEP a bunch of times at WDW so PTN is more important to us.

We're headed to DLR for the first time in June. We'll be there the last week in June, mainly because we're driving out and the proximity to the July 4th holiday helps me on vacation days. For this year, all things being equal, I kind of wish we'd planned for later in the summer due to the Star Wars Land construction. They're saying Rivers of America and with that Fantasmic will be back up (this summer). I thought I read that possibly with that the trains might be back running soon after. For me riding one of Walt's trains would be a priority, but at this point with no guarantee that "this summer" will mean by August, we're keeping our current plans. That said, if I was still tossing a coin on times, I'd lean towards August for the chance we'd get to see the attractions affected by the construction.

The electrical parade is supposed to run until June 18th or 20th. I am not sure when Paint the Night could return. But based on the close date of MSEP, I think August may be a better bet for PTN.

When the Parks Blog official announced that MSEP would be returning to DLR this year, they said that it "will run nightly until June 18". However, there has been no official announcement saying PtN will return after that (or even when/if it would return). It's possible that if the demand is high enough or PtN is not ready to return or any reason really, they could extend the dates for MSEP, but at this point, June 18th is the announced end date for MSEP.

Both June and AUgust are part of "summer", so there should be relatively long operating hours and full entertainment (although some things begin to wind down in the end of August). If you go in June, there are Grad Nites to contend with. Some people don't mind them, others try to avoid them as much possible. For August, the summer SoCal and SoCal Select AP blockouts end mid-month (Aug 21), so expect pretty decent sized crowds immediately after that as the SoCal and SoCal Select APs return to the parks for the first time since June.

Can't speak to June but we went the last week in August last year. Local schools were back in so crowds were not bad at all. They did pick up a bit in the late afternoons.

It was hot with temps typically in the 90s. HM was also closed for the holiday overlay so if that is a ride you want to hit keep that in mind.

Are the Electrical Parade and Paint the Night mutually exclusive? Or is it possible they will both run?

I don't really know. But I guess I can't imagine they'd alternate between two nighttime parades during the same months. Unless they moved the Electrical Parade back to California Adventure but I don't think that's likely.
