Alright! I am in desperate need of a No Buy month! I mean, officially it should be called a Buy Less month cause I still have to buy more than NOTHING but, whatever!

Anyway, I have a Paris trip booked for August and a Disney trip booked over Christmas break and I need to squirrel away as much excess money as I can between now and then, so a No Buy is necessary!

Payday was this past weekend and I got most of the bills and expenses taken care of then. I have a budget of $40 per week (Fridays) for gas for the month of June as well as $75 per week for groceries. I also have $10 a week in cash for incidentals and such. I have some money in the MISC fund and some in my clothing fund as well that I am hoping to avoid spending...but it's there should the need arise. Basically, I am hoping to go out on Fridays for gas, groceries and the dollar store (should that be necessary) and spend nothing otherwise.

So I am going to start today, even though June begins on Wednesday...just because I can! Goal is 20 days or more...let's get this party started!!

Technically this is a lie! :rotfl2: I ordered a birthday present online, so I did spend money today....but it doesn't count because it was planned and budgeted for and didn't fall within my parameters for this challenge. I wanted to ensure full disclosure though.

You did great!! I don't have any birthdays until August, but I am starting to put $5 away for it each week.

I'm keeping track of my expenditures here, (groceries, Dr. Visits, medications, Uber), but not counting necessary items against my 'no spending days', correct? Otherwise I will amend my post.

I'm in starting today (spent a crap ton of money on Memorial Day sales) so the 31st will be a fresh start

May:
31-no buy

You can do it however you like! Some people include all their variable spending and some include anything that is not automatically taken from their account and some just limit it to "spending" money. You pick what works best for you and that's what you'll track and report on here!

Great!! Thank you! Today is a no spend day, as I was going to finish my grocery shopping, but the storms are so bad I'm not going out! We actually have standing water in our backyard and it's still raining. The ground here is like a sponge. Usually the rain soaks in as soon as it hits the grass!!

I spent most of my life in CA, but Texas weather is a horse of a different color!!

I am jumping in because expenses have felt a bit out of control and I really need to rein in any discretionary spending over the next few months to get back on budget. I am traveling for work a bunch this month. I got to my hotel this morning and realized I forgot my phone charger. I thought, oh great, now I am going to need to spend money to buy one that I don't really need. But then DH suggested that I ask the hotel if they have one to borrow and they did! So spend avoided.

Made it by the skin of my teeth today...was going a bit stir crazy being home for some reason and wanted to get out and shop. Resisted the clothing shopping (waiting for the clearance sales to kick in so I can get some stuff for all of us) and then watched a bunch of grocery haul's on YouTube and was itching to go out and score some deals. Because of this thread...and ONLY because of this thread, I stayed home and spent nothing. I am in for the night at this point, so I'm calling it now. Now if only my diet was going this well.

Boredom, feeling stir crazy and seeing bargains was quite a feat to overcome for a no spend day!! Congratulations!!!

Ok, finished my grocery shopping today. Got the type of beef I buy (no hormones or antibiotics) on sale for 25% off, as well as two packages of steak, boneless beef ribs and a roast, marked down even more. All packaged, in the freezer, 13- 15 meals of beef, plus chicken, beef fat free Frank's, beef sausages, cheese, yogurt and a ton of staples for $157. This is about 3 weeks of groceries, except for milk, eggs and produce, which I bought about 8-10 days worth of. I will also have to buy more cereal as the kind my grandmunchkins like were not on sale.

I usually buy our milk and eggs at Brahms. A dozen extra large grade A eggs varies from $.89 - $1.49 a dozen. Milk is often 2 gallons for $4. It is a fast food/ice cream parlour with a tiny 'store' attached to it. Great ice cream too.

But not a no buy day. :rolleyes1. I bought my grandmunchkins some shorts and helped 'supplement' their allowance to get toys they've been saving for. They also got icee's.

Tomorrow were staying home though, so I'll make sure to get another one then!!

Today is pay day so it's EXTREMELY hard to keep this up. I have decided on a $10/week budget for things that come up like maybe if my coworkers want to go to lunch or if I want to treat the kids to ice cream or something.

That's a great plan DisneyArie!!! I like that idea as theres a little leeway yet it is still a budget!!!

I may copy your idea!!! Thanks!

LOL I do this! I take $20 a week out in cash. I call it WAM (walking around money). I get it on payday for the whole month along with the money for the kid's allowance and our date nights. The cash goes into jars and then we take out one week's worth at a time and put it into my wallet. I use it to get ice cream or donuts or something as treats for us, I use it for the stuff we randomly need from the Dollar Store, I use it to pay for field trips for the kiddies, I use it for infrequent purchases like postage and such, and any other small misc expense that comes up in a given week.

Anything that we don't spend goes towards vacations...so the motivation is high to keep the spending low!

My twenty this week (I get one out on Friday and it has to last through the following Thursday) has to cover jelly beans for the teachers gifts, Father's Day cards, a pack of gum and a smock or cape for haircuts. DH just cut DS's hair last night and I overheard them complaining about the ratty state of it, so I thought I'd look today at the Dollar Tree to see if I can find something. I actually only get $10 a week for the rest of the month though...this month has five weeks in it (which happens every quarter) and I just make do with $80 when that happens and the other ingredients for the teacher's gifts actually put me over budget last week, so I had to steal from the jar to make things right!

That's great!!! I really need to do this as I don't want to account ice cream or an iced for the boys against my budget/no spend day! Thank you for the great ideas ladies!!!

I was doing pretty well so far, but I went to a quilting retreat today. I ended up buying some fabric because I didn't pack well and needed some more for one of the projects. I also got a seam roller to make the paper piecing easier. It is really awesome, but I definitely overspent. I plan to make this up through my per diem for work travel. I get paid a flat rate for each day that I travel, but I usually end up spending much less than what I get so it will all level out, I think.
