June/July/August 2006 Code watch

Thanks to all for calling! I check as soon as I get the kids off to school. See you tomorrow.
(I talked my sister into coming with us this year. She pointed out that without a code Universal is a much better deal and maybe we should stay there and just go to WDW on day trips. Other years I would not have even considered this but now that I avoid the EMH Parks maybe I will.)

Did you guys see that WDW released '07 rates & from 5/24 to 8/4 is now considered "Summer" season & has a higher rate than regular (+$10 @ Values, standard)? Was in allears newsletter I got last night.

Not sure if this correlates to this years' potential codes though.

Even though I bailed for June, I'm still pulling for you...hope your wait is over soon!

I have to agree with the others who question whether heavy staffing at CRO means that AP rates are coming out.

While there seem to be a lot of us here, really how many extra phone calls are they going to get if they release a month or two of AP codes? I doubt its enough to cause an increase in staffing.

My feeling is that something else is up. They always run big ads in the Sunday paper when they announce a new general promotion. That would definately lead to an increase in phone traffic. My guess is that there is something coming out on Sunday that will be available to everyone and they are anticipating lots of calls from that. Now lets just hope its for June, July and August, and that it is something that works for all of us. :)

Not to rain on anyone's parade here.. but this article was posted at CNN/Money .. about Disney's earnings this past quarter etc.

http://money.cnn.com/2006/05/09/news/companies/disney_analysis/index.htm

In it, it mentions a 'rebound in park attendance' and several execs mention they don't think the price of gasoline will hurt the theme park growth this year -- short of it going much much higher.

Oh I am SO over this!

You watch, they won't do it until June 3rd. They'll wait until the last darned minute to announce their next 'deal'. They know they've got us wrapped right around their little finger, right where they want us.
I wish we could plan a mass boycott - who am I kidding?!
So many of us, me included, couldn't stay away from Disney if you paid me too! :lmao:

I'm hoping they will come out with a summer promotion at the last minute to help persuade folks to take their "summer" trip to WDW despite the high gas prices this year. I'm still hoping for a kids free or 2 for 1 package type of deal.
Maybe that's where they're gonna see their 'rebound in park attendance'.

Another thanks for calling this morning. So many of us appreciate it!

I did end up calling last night and booking our trip (YAY!) and was able to get the resorts/rooms I was hoping for when I wanted them. There were also AAA discounts still available so we did save something just not nearly as much as we could/would have with the AP discount. BUT - here's to hoping they won't be far behind (love the idea of them potentially coming out Sunday on Mother's Day, talk about what a treat that would be!) Either which way, I know it's now "official" and we'll be heading down, so I'm totally geeked. Still can't truly believe it honestly, but it'll sink in as we start planning more parts of the trip now.

Anyhoo, I did try chatting up the cm but he really didn't offer much info. He did say they are waiting like the rest of us for them to come out.

All that comes to mind at the moment is, "It's a great big beautiful tomorrow, shining at the end of every day..." :)

Disney announced yesterday that gas prices are not really affecting their business at all...

So maybe they don't feel the need to offer us any special deals, if they're making money just fine without them.
Boy I hope that's not the case! :confused3

I agree, I just returned from a 2 week trip and have to say the place was packed. Some days worse than others. The resorts were full and restraurants rarely took walkins. Keep in mind that the beginning of May hardly compares to the summer months. If this is any indication, I have to agree that the resorts are filled and there is hardly any need to offer discounts if the rooms are already filled with folks willing to pay rack rates. I've been an AP holder for 10 years and now am also a DVC member and glad that I took the plunge last year. Good luck, sometime I still need a room prior to checking into my DVC resort, so hope the discounts continue, but with the new rates being released for 2007 and watching the rates go even higher, I fear the discounts will get less and less. I stayed at Pop in February with an AP rate of $49 a night for 3 days before checking into WLV, somehow I fear that might be the last time I get a rate that low again. :confused3

I also don't think gas prices are affecting many travelers. Even though it has risen .50 a gallon around here that is still only $10 extra per fill up. We are looking at an extra $100 for our trip to Disney and back again. That is nothing! If I can't afford that additional $100 then I shouldn't be on vacation in the first place! LOL!

going back a few pages.......I am not an AP holder but totally agree with the comments made by Will G in the mousesaver!!!!

My DH and I alloted ourselves so much per month to go have fun at Disney on day trips. With a tight budget, the gas prices ARE affecting our day trips. Nothing drastic, just instead of every month, we may go every other month. So it does affect some of us who budget for fun and can't afford to go hog wild all the time.

I'm thinking that the 12% increase in profits Disney reported yesterday means they are in no particular rush to issue codes. Seems they attribute most of it to the resorts and theme parks. Sooo...who knows.

Sorry, but I disagree with this. IMHO......
Quite the contrary...... I think there is a "domino effect" and everyone will be affected by it! It isn't just the additional cost of the trip itself... it is what most people will budget for and where they get that money.
For example.... I am paying an additional $15 / week for gas... and most of my travel is just back and forth to work (FYI.... no one to car pull with if you are wondering). That works out to $780 a year!! that is 7 nights at a value resort!!!! Or..... MYW tickets for a family of 4!!!
So that money has to come from somewhere... My employer sure isn't paying for it!!!
So there goes the budgetted amount for "fun" things.... vacation!
So ..... you see.... IMHO
The price of gas is ABSOLUTELY affecting everyone's vacations.

I completely agree. I work in the petroleum industry and people are not only having to take from one area of their lives to pay for another ( higher cost of getting too and from places vs vacation money). They are begining to realized that the high home heating costs of last winter are not going to go away. 2 years ago the cost of # 2 heating oil was about 1.499 today it's well over 2.599. if it takes you 500 gallons to heat your home that's a 550.00 increase. personally I get a discount from my company and my bill still went up by more than 1000.00.
just my 2 cents

Anyone building a house right now is being hit very hard because of the rise in petroleum costs. It doesn't affect most people, but PVC pipes for plumbing are petroleum based; the plastic coating on electrical wiring is petroleum based; there are other areas that are affected as well. The costs of gas are going to hit people in many, many areas. We already had our vacation planned for, and paid for this year. But, we are already discussing ways to cut back next year.

Oh, one change we did make was to take advantage of the recurring thought to try a new resort. We changed to the Contemporary this year. Since we have a 3 year old, it will be nice to just walk over to Magic Kingdom this year as we've done in the past at Epcot. The lesser price won't break our hearts, either. :thumbsup2
