June Exercise Challenge - 54 Challengers and 40,537 minutes completed!!!

Oh dear, I've missed so much! Page 10 already!?

Something nasty hit me over the weekend and I spend the whole thing in bed. Awful chills and aching muscles. I'm feeling better today finally but have no energy haha. I eased myself back into working out with 30 minutes on the treadmill.

New total:

30/1400

Yikes, 5 days in and already I've got some major catching up to do!

Hope you are up to full speed soon! And this thread HAS been zooming along - very impressive!

i've been planning the Princess Half in 2013 for a while now (Completed the 5K in 2012), and as of two weeks ago its up in the air. :confused3 May still be able to work it out, but that was supposed to be our family trip (school vacation) & my son is going on a school trip instead. Need to decide if we move the trip or DD & I go without him.

My math was totally off in my first post. :rotfl:

Updates since the above-

6/2 - 16 additional minutes that night
6/3 - 65 min walk along the coast (sidewalk & sand)
6/4 - 17 sculpt
6/5 - 25 + 8 min morning walk & stretch
6/5 - 16 sculpt (mostly arms) & 10 min stretch

Letting excel add it all for me -
New total -

189/900

I hope all of that gets worked out. It's hard to plan when everyone wants to go in separate directions.

Good morning! I did 30 minutes on the treadmill this morning at 4:45 am, showered and now lounging in bed until the last possible second I have to ge up to finish getting ready to go to work!!!

60/700

If I had gotten up at 4:45 am, I would have been doing the same thing, except I'd probably fall asleep and miss my alarm!

Can people still join in? :confused3 I am so excited I came here today to begin a journal or something to keep me motivated! This will certainly work!

I'll shoot for 1000 for the month. I already did 35 yesterday.

Thanks so much! This will keep me going! :yay:

:welcome: We'd love to have you - thank you! It does work really well in remembering all the calories we've burned all month.

While I have not done well the past two months - I am not giving up!!
Still going to aim for 1000 minutes this month.
I have not been to the gym in awhile, but did some major walking this past weekend.
Friday, June 1 - Walking around the Wildlife Sanctuary - 30 minutes
Saturday, June 2 - Walking the Dunes at Lake Michigan - 30 minutes
Monday, June 4 - Airport walking - why do they always put me at the last gate at the furthest terminal? - 30 minutes

So, I am at 90/1000 so far this month!

Hi, Lara! :welcome: Good to see folks from our EEC thread. Hope your summer is going well. That airport in Atlanta is quite the workout!

35 minutes today. I wanted to do more but it's just not going to happen.
I did C25K W6D2 and I am spent. Today was the worst day I have had. I think it was the class last night. I felt fine today, no soreness, but it came out in the run. I was going so slow towards the end, keep checking the timer on the phone and telling my self "just a few more minutes, just a few minutes" Then I started counting and talking out loud! Thank goodness there was no one around but at that point I don't think I could have cared less!

Wednesday is my crazy day so I did not expect to get any exercise in..... But managed 30 minutes on the treadmill between work and evening rehearsals.

You are really sweet, Lois. I LOVE Couch to 5k for training for a 5k if you want to run it or even if you want to run parts of it. It was such a sensible plan for me when I did it - the right mix of gradual progression and pushing me to my limits. What kind of shoes did you get? Did you get them fitted at a running store? I hope you love them!

Don't let someone sell you a "walking shoe" because you are planning to distance walk instead of distance run. That is the best advice a running shoe fit specialist gave me - he actually said that a good running shoe is important for what I do and the miles I put in, and that a "walking shoe" just isn't the same. And my experience has borne that out.

So, get thee to a running store and have them evaluate your gait barefoot walking around the store and/or on a treadmill. They'll help you find the right shoe. Once you have found the right one the first time, you can find places to buy them for less money, most likely, but I have always said that buying the right one was worth paying a bit more at the running store if necessary.

Like I said, I think that if you are training for a 5k, Couch to 5k is an awesome plan. If you want to learn how to train for a longer distance, Marathoning for Mortals by John Bingham remains my favorite training book ever (and I have read soooo many!!!)

Good luck! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

Yes, I went to a running store and got Blakes. I had never heard of them, but he said they were the biggest selling running shoe.:confused3 I wore them yesterday for a bit and they hurt my feet after a couple of hours. I will probably take them back and get something else. The guy spent a lot of time with me and watched me stand, walk etc. before trying on any shoes. Then he tried several different shoes on me and in the store they felt wonderful. I do have really bad feet, so I'm used to foot pain. Could be I just need to get used to the way these fit me.

I plan to look into the Couch to 5K.:thumbsup2 Thanks for all the great advise, Cam!!:goodvibes

Good for you! I always feel especially good when I get a workout in unexpectedly.:dance3:

Almost forgot to post my workout! I did 40 minutes of wt machines and 50 min of cardio.

Hi everybody! I did 115 minutes of swimming today, which makes me 175/800 of the way through! Yay! :)

I went to Zumba class today for an hour bringing my total to 480/1680. I feel really tired today...hoping for some additional energy tomorrow!

Everyone is doing so great! It is wonderful to see all the minutes of activity racking up!

Debbie - Thank you so much for hosting this month's challenge and for all your encouraging posts. You are amazing!!! :sunny: :flower2: :goodvibes

Lois - I hope you can work out the shoe issue. It is so critical, because you don't want to hurt yourself because you are fighting your shoe.

I am having a shoe issue myself right now. I LOVE my new Nike Free 3.0 v.4 but the first day I wore them, I got a blister on the top of my right foot at the base of the big toe (kind of on the "knuckle bone" there) and since then, it continues to rub on any shoe I wear. Like I said, I love the shoe structurally and for how it accomodates my stride/gait/knee alignment, but I am unhappy that it is giving me blisters where the shoe bends at the base of the toe at each stride. Once this heals, I am going to plan on using moleskin to make sure that I can prevent blisters with that simple remedy. I'm not willing to give up the shoe but I can't imagine walking any distance in these.

Oh, well, back to our reguarly scheduled challenge - I did 20 minutes on the bike last night and then my 60 minute deep water aerobics class. My new total is 475/2000.

Tomorrow and Saturday should see huge jumps in my numbers. I'm on the organizing committee for Special Olympics Summer Games and the events over the next couple days involve a LOT of walking, fetching, and carrying. Lots of bending and lifting too. It is so enjoyable!! Tomorrow will be about a 15 hour day and Saturday will be about 9 hours. I'll keep pretty close track of the time spent moving as opposed to standing around supervising volunteers and serving food. If it looks like my exercise goal will be met too soon, I'll up my goal number next week.

Keep on moving, everyone!! :cool1:

I had the morning off, so I got my training run in early! I feel a little slack because I didn't make time for my run on Tuesday, I cannot let that happen again! But 40 mins today makes for:

130/1200 for the month. Whoo!!

Hey sorry! I know I'm a week late starting this but I would love to join in if that is alright...

You can sign me up for 1000 minutes.

I've already done 100/1000 this week so hopefully I can step it up now that I have set a goal.

48 minutes on the elliptical machine today......

Got the front lawn mowed and DS1 VOLUNTEERED (where's the fainting smilie?!) :upsidedow to mow the back yard. Amazing. Also did a bit of a "why stop there?" after the cabinet was moved. There's a large phone jack at eye level on that wall that some previous owner had installed. I took it out (we've only lived here 13 years! ;)). Then decided why not take out the other 2 (don't ask me why there were 2) doo dads on the adjacent wall. So took them out. Then pulled the wire out from both walls. Then had to fill all the holes with our very old will-it-ever-dry spackle. Didn't actually paint until this morning. After DS2's baseball game tonight I can paint the rest and move things back. DS1 graduates tomorrow so really, really need to get things in order!

Keep moving!

ok well after working, on my feet, walking, I will count 60 min towards monthly goal. I think that brings me to 260/900 for the month.
