I'm anxiously awating SWA release of June fares but now I'm worried. Just looked at Airtran and their June fares are $350+ each way. The May-June 1 fares are MUCH lower, more like $89-$120. Why the big jump? Hoping SWA fares will not be so high otherwise we'll be driving, I cannot afford $700+ each round trip for 5 people. :sad2:

I feel your pain! We can only fly in June, so unfortunately we have to cough up the extra money; airlines know June is a busy month so they hike up the prices. :headache: Almost half of our vacation expenses will be spent on airfare.

Ours through Air Tran are $475 -- each way!! For a family of 5, that's $5000! No way. So I'm refreshing the SW website every few minutes...

Check Airtran's site again today. Yesterday flights were $379 each way and today they are back to "normal"; $97 down, $111 back. I still don't want to pay that much, but it is better than $379. I'm hoping SW flights are better.

Checking again doesn't work for me. Right now, all flights but one are $476 on each leg. The one flight with a reduced flight is $157.

Also watching SWA site...I even called yesterday to try and get an estimated time the fares would be up. They had no answer. I was told it can be anytime during the day. Just checked AirTran and it's $139 pp each way for us, I expect SWA to be about the same. Would rather have SW because of the no extra fee for bags. That and I have always had a good experience traveling with them. Good luck to everyone!! :thumbsup2

mossy1,
Where do you fly out from? We also live in PA and I really, really want to fly Airtran out of Harrisburg, but until I pay the baggage fees and such I just don't know if that will happen. We usually drive to BWI (about 90 mins. away) to fly SW. Philly is also about 90 mins. away so we could actually fly out of there too. I just like the ease and convenience of BWI.

I am from Altoona, so either BWI or PIT. It is about 15 mins further for us to BWI. Haven't found any great deals from Harrisburg either. We do the park and fly and what I have found is the fights are a little cheaper at BWI but the rooms are more. Conversely in PIT the flights are more but the room cost less. Best of luck to you!!

Wish that was the case but it's not, at least yet....

There are two non-stops the 6am is $83 and the 5:45p is $361. Same on the return, two non-stops the early morning is $83 and the other is $361. We are nearly an hour from the airport so for a 6am flight we'd be looking at leaving our house around 4am :scared1: My family is about as far from morning people as you can get, I just can't imagine having them out of bed and on the way to the airport that early in the morning. :headache:

REALLY hoping that SWAs fares are much lower. Even now the flights out of Midway on SWA for May are $100/$112 depending on the day of the week. If their fares compare to Airtran's that is a HUGE jump in price.

Have you checked out a hotel by the airport that does park and fly??? It's not really that much more than what you would pay for parking....makes a much nicer early morning flight from my experience. Good Luck!!! Also hoping the flights are reasonable.

I don't know your dates in June but I see return flights with taxes for $187 with Airtran from chicago midway airport i.e Jun 9 - 16th.

Really? Are those non-stop flights? That is still $400 ea which is a little steep when you're buying 5 tickets. We can drive for considerably less than $2000.

Just coming to update that our Air Tran prices dropped to $150-175 almost at the same time as the SW release. We ended up booking with SW because even though we'll have a 3 hour drive to KC, they have nonstop (essential with my flying phobic son) and free bags. Air Tran flies from our hometown, but we'd have to switch planes and by the time we pay bag fees, it wouldn't save us any money. We're going for 2 weeks, so it's a lot of bags.

The fare I quoted you was return and not one way for nonstop flights. Fares are $83 one way. The return is no longer $83.
