June 27, 2013 - Magic in the Med (Venice)

Hall of knights for us.

Be sure to check out St. John's Cathedral in Malta dedicated to the order of knights who ruled the island. The graves of the knights are right in the floor of the church and each country from which the knights hailed from has their own smaller alter off to the sides. Really a beautiful church and they tell the story of a bomb falling through the roof and rolling around the floor without exploding....

Unfortunately St. John's Cathedral is closed when we are there.
On the Disney Magic 12 Night Venice Cruises - the St. John's Co-Cathedral is closed. A visit to the National Museum of Archeology will be substituted:

Oh so sorry to hear that. The little musuem attached had some great artwork as well as the marble in laid crypts on the floor of the knights are something to behold. I wish that during the heavy tourist season(s) that places in Europe would stay open all week but I'm sure they say "we have done it this way for years and why change now?"

Great ideas! I am an obsessive planner as well. Because this is such a port intensive trip and DD (8) will be going on some very mature port adventures, I have been putting together games to keep her engaged. We have Bingo in Villefranche where she has to mark off the places as we visit them and she gets a small prize when she Bingos and then another when she clears her board. We are doing Florence on Your Own and trekking off to the Uffizi. I found the Uffizi gallery page on line and they list the paintings by room. I chose 1 or 2 paintings from each room, copied the image and printed them on small pocket-sized cards on a ring. As we enter each room, I give her a card and she has to find the painting. When she shows me the painting, I will give her a small monetary gift to put in a little pouch and she gets to add the card to a ring that she will be wearing. At the end of the museum visit, she can use that money in the gift shop. Now to come up with fun games for the rest of the ports. :)

Sounds awesome! I have a DD 8 too! What wonderful ideas!!! :)

So... We are in for the exclusive Vatican now -yay!

Now I may just have to follow one of my fellow DISers around for the 4 hours of leisure time. New research begins for me on getting from St. Peter's Square to EVERYWHERE!!! ;-)

You all are just so full (and willing to share) so much information!!

In doing my research reading and online, it seems that taxis are pretty affordable in Rome the quickest way to get around being that we will only have 4 hours of free time. So that is what I settled on! :)

Doing the blue grotto fishing village trip through disney! Nothing else looked too exciting for us. but the grotto looks beautiful!

on our last Med cruise in 2011, we did the Blue Grotto/Fishing Village. The grotto beautiful, but the boat ride was QUICK -- like 15 minutes total in a motor boat and it only slowed down (didn't really stop) in a few places in the grotto. I would have liked to linger there a little more. i only mention this so you manage your expectations -- i think i was a little disappointed because I expected it would be a little more intimate...

that said, some of the most beautiful pictures we have from that trip were from the fishing village. and there was a DCL photographer there taking pics too!

This time, we are doing the "3 historic cities and Dghajsa boat ride" --

excited to re-experience the fishing village!

What is everyone doing in Malta? We did not see any port adventures that seemed exciting. Any ideas?

4X4 Jeep tour of the island for us. After walking, walking, walking in the other ports, we needed something more relaxing.

And it's gone... The only 10A available 20 minutes after you posted is 7509, which really is an inside cabin.

Maybe it is on hold. If so it could be back within the hour. The price for a 10a is higher than some of the 9's. sure glad it wasn't when we booked.

Someone on FB mentioned our port times for Dubrovnik have us arriving at 11:15 rather than 1:15. I'm glad because I wanted more time there!
