June 27, 2007 10 Night - The Rodney Dangerfield of Med Cruises

WOW! What a great site Cheri! :thumbsup2 :yay:  :cheer2: :Pinkbounc

We are definitely off and running now!

I'm loving the Slacker Slurpie! I'm thinking of adding a little Midori to that concotion...YUM.

Does anyone know if they'll be doing the excursions offered...or off on their own. I KNOW it's the "slacker cruise", but I still gotta see Rome and the Leaning Tower...with a slacker slurpie to keep me cool. Of course. :rotfl2:

Umm Disney Kids Club, need I say more. :teacher:

she'll be glad to know you have the chain of command correct. When is the Admiral coming aboard? No fair keeping her from us.

She has been informed but Admiral Slacker has her own mission's pirate:

you didn't do it quite right then. Let's see, last 2 times we've shipped cases of vino to the ship. We had a little soiree of our own - but since you've got the space ...

With 4 Kids I dont have any space! :grouphug:

BigBlueMan sent me some links for the web site and MIL is mother in law (you didn't specify who "mom" was. Ya' got lol, ttyl, ttfn, rofl, lmao right?

The dickens You say! :happytv:

fruity, but can we go easy on the creamy? all that sugar = heap big hang over!

Hangover Bad! drink aqua & alka seltzer :lmao: Or we could just do shots of 151 :drinking1

So, you'll either be sleeping or dancing on the tables ? :dance3: I gotta learn how to make a cruise DVD!

What happens on the Slacker Cruise Stays on the Slacker Cruise

Cheri, dahlink, I didn't need to know WHAT a Captain Slacker was, I wanted to know WHO it was. Now that I've got a clue that it's my Beantown Buddy, I'm all set.

Now Midori? Midori is from Japan. That's for the Disney Hits the Orient cruise. What about italian liquors like amaretto or grappa? What about Frangelico? Definitely fruity, and definitely frozen. Hmmmm... glad we have a year, it's goint to take that long to test out all possible combinations. Oooh, wait, Cap'n Slackah (gotta say it with a Bahstonian aahccent) demands 151. Egads, I'm gonna be sick just thinking about it. :bitelip:

ATTENTION SLACKERS!!

Assignment for you:

Mix the following in a blender:

Campari
Midori (just a splash)
Orange juice
Pineapple (?? not too sure about this one)
Ice

Blend well. Add a cherry and an umbrella. Drink well.

try it with and without a shot of 151.

What does it say that I've been thinking up combinations all afternoon??

Report back. When you're sober, please.

NO NO NO TOO COMPLICATED!

NOW PAY ATTENTION :teacher:

Buy one Italian Ice (your favorite flavor) put in glass add generous portion of 151 (rum that is) shake well! :woohoo:

TADA that is a Slacker Slurpie!

Any Questions I Think Not! :wizard:

Those FruFru fruity drinks are not for Slackers! :dance3:

Me Thinks Golfinwidow must be from Newton or Westwood or god forbid Manchester by the Sea! Not Bahstan :stir:

If you want fruity drinks frozen Lemoncello would be the way to go! Goes down cold warms you up fast! pixiedust:

LOLOL - I wanted to suggest lemoncello, but thought I'd get laughed at! :rotfl: Personally, fruity frosty gives me brain freezes. I'm more along the lines of amaretto neat, plenty of it to fire up these veins. And just what is wrong with Newton, young man??? :furious: And Rjayl, ryay, rjayl, do you really think the barkeeps will have italian ices at their beck and call all week, or do we need to make a special call to Guest Services there to warn them you're coming? :rotfl:

Cheri, I like campari and orange juice. Will you still hang with me?

Besides, this is a work in progress. We must be willing to sacrifice ourselves for the greater good of the entire cruise.

Well I guess I hit that nail on the head! :cool1: Cheri change the website for you know who, from Bahstan to Newton! :3dglasses

Oh you can call me Ray or you can call me Jay but you musnt call me Robert! :rotfl2:

One must wonder if they have ITALIAN ICE in ITALY :dance3:

Hey your not from the Lake (you know) in Newton!

The Booze portion of this cruise might be the most dificult as we will be leaving from Spain! :moped:

How expensive is the duty free shop on board? :stir:

I like that part about personal sacrifice for the good of the cruise! I will set up a plank on my Verandah for any Slacker who doesnt make the Grade! :lmao:

Not from Newton. My best friend is. I'm wicked stickin' up for her. :crazy2: What do I have to do to prove I'm wickedly from up heah? Did I wicked prove it?? And thank GAWD I can call you ray jay, 'cuz that rj thing was using maximum brain capacity to type.

Yeah, leaving port in Spain (we're spending a couple of days ahead in Barcelona) is going to be tough. I think the Slapper Slurpie should be frozen sangria in that port. :rotfl:

And planks?? Do the other cruises have planks?? I wicked don't THINK so!! The Slackers have a plank!!! :cheer2:

Well at least you didnt say Wicked Pissa! :rolleyes1

Or as My DS who now lives in Sherman Oaks (do not know why they call it that I never see any Oak trees when I go to visit her)would say," Cool your Jet" :offtopic:

Now back to the cruise! I think they might have Italian Ice(or slush) on Board! They do have those crushed (Shaved) Ice machines! Hmmmmm
Limoncello, 151, & Ice! Sounds Nice! (and Deadly)! :stir:

As the Great One (Jackie Gleason) would say Wooooooooooow and away we go! :boat:

... and THAT Ladies and Gentlemen was the Widow-Robert Show. Brought to you by Bicardi.

What have we learned today? That we have to make friends with one bartender with instant access to an icee machine. And, if the Captain asks if you want to see his verandah, don't go.

Well at least I dont have to worry about a bunch of near do slackers wanting to party in my room any more! :sunny:

So has anyone been to any of these port cities? DH and I were in Italy last year, so I have an idea of what I want to show the kids in Rome, Florence, and Pisa. I have no idea about the others. I have such a range in ages for my kids, it should be interesting. I know we will all go and see Pompei. I want to go gamble in Monte Carlo :smooth: Other than that... I think we will probably go off on our own more than doing the planned excursions, if possible. Any suggestions?

I am traveling with 4 Kinder, The plan is to keep it simple!

We are planning large sights for family pictures Rome (Colaseaum) Pisa (leaning tower) Paris (Eifel tower)!

Other than that we will probaly leave the 2 youngest (3 & 6) on the Ship, and decide wether we want to take the older 2 (12 & 14) with us!

You only have a day in each port so do not be to aggresive in planning. Sometimes the tours are the easiest route. I will wait intill the tours are announced to make decisions.

We have already toured Rome & Florence as well as Naples, Sorrento & Capri and Positano twice. So I will look at offerings and pick what I think would be the most fun for all.

Shopping & Dining is always an option especially in Naples & Palermo!

I am currently planning to drag the whole family to Rome & Pisa. I am not sure about Florence it will be a lot for one day.

Sardinia is going to be a Beach day unless something interesting is offered.

Marseille & Monaco I would apply the rules used for Palermo & Naples.

I am not sure about Pompei I have seen all the best stuff in the National Museam in Naples, I would be interested in going to the volcano or sulfer fields, of course my DW has to agree.

Check Soccermom's website. She has some links to the individual cities, as well as a trip report a friend of mine recently made while on a Carnival Cruise to many of the cities we're going to. He does it from not only his perspective, but from his wife's and both their kids.

That might give you some insight.

Rodney Dangerfield was always a favorite of mine. About five years ago, we saw him in Vegas and I've always been glad I did.

Back in January, also in Vegas, I was at a convention. As I was walking out of the hall, a TV crew was interviewing a Rodney impersonator! The guy was great!

(Wonder if we could get him to go on the cruise?)

...no respect at all...

BBM, why don't we save the money and have you do it for us?? :rotfl:

Karen, I have a teenager who has NO interest in hanging with Mom and Dad and a preteen ("shyah, like wicked!") who wants to do everything. I'm going to wait and see what is offered, and learn about the different ports of call in the meantime. I do plan on packing everyone on the bus and heading to Rome, however. Can't go all the way to Italy and NOT see the sights, even if it's so short so as to tempt us to return again. I'm dying to see if I can pretend to be a Gladiator! :D :D Forget the planks, bring on the lions!

In the past, I've realized (begrudgingly admitted) that we cover more ground on the excursions, than we do on our own.

Is anyone trying to learn a foreign language? I speak French enough to get by in restaurants ("Ou est la salle de bains? Vit! Vit!"), but am dying to learn Italian or Spanish. I wonder how much you can pick up in a year?

See we agree on something after all. ;)

I do like the Tim Larson trip report, we should look into his private guided tour companies for info & maybe set up some tours! Kudos to Cheri for this info :thumbsup2

My 12 year old DD Arielle had French immersion through the 3rd grade with several primary courses taught in French since then. I had 6 years of Spanish a long long time ago! However I work in a bilingual environment (Spanish) :teacher: I tried to learn italian for my first trip to Italy, at this point it all melts together :lmao:

I figure Cheri should be fluent in Spanish being from CA! :rotfl2:

Goin Back to Cali to Cali to Cali, Goin back to Cali. I dont think so! :dance3:
