June 25, 2005 Mexican Riviera..anyone going with us?

That is a good idea about waiting to see where the MAY 28 sailing is going to meet and we can plan from there. They seem to meet around 3pm on the first day. Well we can see what they have to say when the time comes.
Someone mentioned this morning that you may be able to order tea shirts before you board and they will be waiting for you in your cabin. I am going to look into this and let you know. We have dinner at 6pm and they is when the shop opens I dont want to miss out on getting everyone a tea shirt. some people collect pins I collect tea shirts from all the cruises I have been on and from where we have cruised. I have a few from my last disney cruise that I am going to wear. I also want to get the disney golden ears. Well have dh home sick today am making him go to doctors to be checked out.

Hey everyone! I'm a newbie too and will be joining all of you on the cruise. My dear friend Michelle (Tigger4Mo) linked me here a long time ago so I have been following along and I cant wait to meet all of you. My name is Margaret and this is our first DC. We were so excited last year when we found out DCL was coming out west and we knew we had to jump on this opportunity. I will be cruising with my dh Gregg, dd Riley(5) and ds Matty (5). Its so great that we can drive to the port. Like Michelle, we will be driving from Pasadena so we have already planned on going to the port on May 28th to see the Magic come in to port for the first time. I am so excited to see the expression on my kids faces to see it for the first time.

We are building a new house that will be ready in September but we are moving out of ours in about 3 weeks and sort of spending the summer hopping around. So I am really looking forward to spending a week with a warm ocean breeze and a cool Margarita in my hand. After packing the house we are really going to be in the mood for a vacation.

Welcome Margaret! We also had to jump on board when we heard that DCL was coming out west. We almost went last year, but with the airfare added in it was just more than we could justify. We ended up taking a Royal Carribean cruise and adding a couple days at WDW on. We had a blast and are so looking forward to this trip. Have you been following the thread live from the repo cruise? It is great to hear about the new shows and such, though it's all new to me, lol. Our little "family" is growning in leaps and bounds. Seems like we may have half the state of Cali cruising with us this summer on DCL.

Finally got around to making a reservation in San Pedro for the night before the cruise. The Sheraton is sold out and I made the reservation at the Holiday Inn. They have a park & cruise package for $149 - we get the room Friday night, breakfast Sat morning, a bottle of champagne, shuttle to the port and parking (in a garage) for the duration of the cruise. The price was the same at the Sheraton but I just waited too long (*#($&%#$%*!!!) to make the reservation. I did a little research and some hotels in downtown Long Beach have park & cruise packages but they will only deliver you to the Carnival terminal. Will keep checking the Sheraton to see if they open up.

Was able to sign up both kids at the clubs on DCL's website + I booked DS11 for the Dolphin Encounter in PV. The website was difficult; we have 2 cabins and have one DS in each cabin so had to log in 2x, once for each child to set them up. I've already set up the spa appts and Palo res we get with the REAS package. Also reserved the tea at Palo but may cancel this if something else comes up.

Is anyone else concerned about Pacific hurricanes? There is already a tropical storm in the Pacific.

Hi got2gp,

This cruise is sort of a get together for my wife and her two brothers and sister and our families. We're all originally from Hawaii. One brother and one sister still live there and will be bringing their families up to LA for the cruise. The other brother lives in LA. We're in northern California. A Disney cruise on the West Coast seemed like a good event to center a get together around. I know the kids are really excited. My daughter is starting to count down the days. Should be fun with the activites and meeting new people.

Here is the link for making online reservations if anyone needs it:
My Disney Cruise page
You will have to register with your cruise reservation number before you can start.

Hey Pineapple,

A family reunion of sorts sound great, and what better place to do it but on a cruise, where you can be together and still go your seperate ways when you want to. I would love to do that with my extended family but for various health, money, and location reasons I don't see that happening anytime soon.
BTW my husband and I lived on Oahu years ago when he was in the army. We took the kids back for a vacation a few years ago. They loved it, except for the boring tour down "memory lane" that we drug them on. How old are all the kids? My daughter (16), and son (11) would love to get to know some kids around their own age before the cruise.

I hope that I have not forgotten anyone if so join in and let us know that you are out there.
As far as weather is concern when you cruise you take it as it comes. We have cruised in oct and june and you get what you get. I have friends that cruised a few years ago in June and did not say anything and high seas but what they did say is Mexico is very hot in June so we need to be ready for that.
Am going out this weekend to buy a new bathing suit a few other things and then I will be ready and we have 37 days to go. I have gotten a lot of information off the site and a few others and will print them out and bring them with me if anyone wants to look at them.

:sunny: I have done this route before and yes it will be hot! As far as hurricanes, I guess never say never but I wouldn't worry about it at all. From what I remember, and everyone else that I have spoken to that has done the route, it is smooth sailing until you leave Cabo. Friday seems to be the roughest day. I took Bonine each morning because I always get motion sickness but I was fine even on Friday.

I can't believe the Magic will be here in 9 days and we have just one more month to wait. :cloud9:

Don't forget me!!! Or should I say us (me, DH, DD#1 and her Best Friend, DD#2)
I have never cruised before or been to Mexico other than right at the border.

Has anyone heard what movies are playing on board? I only saw 1 post and the guy said it was The Pacifer. We are hoping that Herbie the Lovebug is going to get shown. :Pinkbounc

I've heard that you can call one week before departure to get the list of movies. From what I've gathered on these boards, if Herbie is coming out around the 25th it seems we will probally have it onboard.

please forgive me Michelle I had you on the list but when I went to post it I did not type your name in.
AS far as movies are concern there are a few I have been wanting to rent but have put it off so If I want to go see them on ship I can.

Hey Michelle! I thought I should let anyone know who is not from Southern California that there is a great theater in Hollywood called the El Capitan. It is owned by Disney and they always have a great live stage show before each performance. It is always a super time for the kids and adults. Of course Herbie the Lovebug is going to be thier next feature if anyone has time to catch it before they leave Los Angeles. I think they are also having the grand opening of the Disney Soda Fountain next door. If anyone is interested I will get you more info. :earboy2:

Margaret, I've seen a couple movies there and it is awesome. For Monster's INC. they built an elaborate play area next door with some cool stuff to do (for adults to) and a chance to get pictures with Sulley and others (can't remember who) instead of having a stage show.

Got the flyer for the El Capitan showings of the new Herbie movie in the mail this week. It starts on June 22. however tickets are on sale now. If anyone is interested, the number to call for tickets is 800 DISNEY6. It is a bit more costly than at your local theater, but you do get the stage show and it is a great old style theater, complete with balcony.

I am sure that they will have Herbie playing on the ship. And at midnight on June 22 they will show it on the ship. That is what they have done in the past. Did anyone see the magic going thru the canal this morning it looked great. they will be starting on the part of the cruise we will be going on so we can get some in put has to what they will be doing on the ship and on land.

Cheryl,

So what were your best memories of Hawaii? I always miss the food which is unique to Hawaii. Not the fancy stuff. Just the plain old stuff that people eat everyday there. But for me, it is comfort food. So what was it that your kids found so boring?

The kids in our pack will range from 14 to 5. My daughter is the second oldest at 11. I've been reviewing message threads in the other sections to find out how wise it would be to let her run around the ship on her own. May have to wait till we get on the ship to see how she manages.

Cliff

what a wonderful day it has been seeing the magic going thru the canal and next Sat it will be here in LA I can't tell how exciteing I am about that. It was fun seeing even mickey out on deck as they went thru the canal. They have been having such wonderful surprises I wonder what is in store for us.
35 days and counting and when I get our docs the trip really becomes real I hope that is soon if they don't come by Mon I think I will call the TA . 6 WEEKS from tomorrow it will be out turn to board the ship.

Can you believe it! With all the excitment from today's Panama sailing I got the okay from DH to book the Mexican cruise. I convinced since we did not have to book air, it was cheaper! It worked.

I have 3 kids, DS15 - Freshman; DS12 6th; DD6 Kindergarten. It will be our 3rd DCL cruise. We live in Rancho Santa Margarita, Orange County, California. I can't believe I booked so late and was still able to get onboard.

With baseball/football we only have 2 weeks to book vacations - June & Dec. but I couldn't stand missing this itineary! I'm so glad we get to join you all!

Okay, now I will go back and read the whole thread to get to know everyone!

I'm soooo excited! I hope the kids have a great time this cruise. Last cruise my 12 yr old (then 11) couldn't really get to make a bond with anyone. But it was his first choice on where to go!

I only got a few little glimpses of the Magic coming thru the last locks. All I have to say is..."How amazing!!!" I bet that was a neat experience. I went back and looked at pictures someone posted and there is one where the ship looks so HUGE! It was neat to see Mickey and all the people out on the deck waving. I guess now we'll get to learn about some of the excursions for our part of the trip. Whoohoo final countdown!
Michelle

Don't forget us! It will be me, DH, DS (10), and DD (6) joining this sailing from Lemoore, CA. This will be the first Disney cruise for all of us, and the first cruise at all for the kids. The excitement is definitely building, and it's time to start acting on all those planning ideas that I've been making for the past year.
