June 25, 2005 Mexican Riviera..anyone going with us?

Hey all, we are well down here. Charley went North of us, so we only wound up with some rain and a little wind.

Cheryl, Sorry to hear about your DD. That is a rough way to start the school year, especially when your a teen!:(

Our school year started okay. My DS didn't wake up the first two days and he missed the bus, so I had to drive him. Thankfully he got up this morning. The home schooling for my DD is going well. She is adjusting to the work. And my other DS starts college classes next Tuesday.

Well, thats about all for now. Have a great evening!

Hi all!

Sounds like the school year is off to a good start for almost everyone! Cheryl, sorry to hear your daughter is having a tough start...it will get better. Our DS starts on the 30th and will be a freshman at the high school. He won't be dealing with the problems of a new building but his problem will be over-crowding. His class is the largest one to date at the school and they will be packed in! DD moves into Temple U. next Thursday. This will be our first one in college so next week might be rather traumatic...for me not for her.
My school year starts next week with a week full of exciting in-service programs and the kids come in the 30th. The summer seemed really short but I am ready to get back to school and back in the swing of things!
Dena....glad to hear everything is OK where you are. I can't imagine what those people on the west coast are going through.

Well, enjoy the rest of the week everyone!

Hello ladies,

Dena, glad to hear that Charley passed you by! Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those affected. Your DS sounds a lot like mine, he can sleep through his alarm that wakes me up in the next room!

Yes, school isn't quite what DD had hoped for. Some things are getting better. Get this though, we were informed yesterday that the school, which was built without lockers, has no money for a classroom set of books and the kids will have to carry their books around with them all day. DD only has three so far (her American Civ book has not come in yet) and her practice clothes and shoes for cheer. Her backpack is bulging. Boy do I feel for the kids who have five books.

Beth, ah the dreaded inservices, I feel for you. As an aide I don't have nearly as many to go to, but some of them can be, shall we say...humm, a little on the slow side. ;)

Time to finish getting ready for school. Take care all.

Cheryl

Hey all. Just put the baby to bed and thought I pop in with a quick hello.

Yesterday my oldest started college.:hyper: He is taking 18 credits, plus working 40 hrs a week as an asst manager at the local food store. I hope he can handle it all.

I just started making a packing list for the baby for our October cruise. I don't want to forget anything, but at the same time, I dont want to bring too much. Since it will be halloween we already will be bringing extra: costumes and treats. Well, I guess I will figure it out.

Hi everyone!

Well, our DD is now a college student. Got her all moved in at Temple in Philly yesterday! Things went very smoothly and no tears were shed!!! Of course, she is coming home today since she has a commitment tomorrow here at home. Once classes start on Monday, I'm sure we wont' be seeing much of her.

DS and I both start school on Monday. My 4 days of in-service were, as Cheryl said, "a little on the slow side"! Glad they are over!

Hope everyone is doing well...keep in touch!

Giving us a little bump!

Dena, Hope you made it through Frances unscathed. It looked like this one was headed right for you! Our prayers are with all those affected.

Beth, Here's to hoping that this school year is off to a good start for you and DD is enjoying college.

Things around here are calming down. School is in full swing. DD is not as unhappy as she was, though the school is still not done. They still don't have a gym or lunch room with decent food service. This means that the kids are left to swelter in 100 degree heat for lunch and PE classes, (which for DD is a 2 hour cheer practice) and no locker rooms to change in. They did "magically" find money for class sets of books, from where, I don't know.

Cheryl

Hi everyone!!

We (Myself, DW, DS 15 and DD 13) will be joining you on this cruise as well. It will be our 7th Disney cruise, and obviously our first without flying clear across the country!! :bounce:

Right now, we are very excited about our Western Caribbean cruise on the Magic next month. We are on the 10/23 cruise. We FINALLY got the stateroom we wanted and are very excited about enjoying it and entertaining friends there. I was very disappointed that I couldn't get the category I wanted for our cruise next June, but I am on the waiting list...

DD's birthday is June 29th, so she will officially become a teenager on board the ship next year!

I am looking forward to getting to know all of you.

I just love Santa Clarita, and I also lived in San Jose for about 8 years, so some of us already have some common ground! :D

'Beano'

Welcome to our little group Beano. Whereabouts in California are you? I figue it must be pretty close if you know Santa Clarita! Hey, we have birthday twins. Our DS will be celebrating his birthday on June 29th also, he will be 12.

We've cruised before, just not with DCL. We are all looking forward to the experience; I'm just afraid that we will get spoiled and have to go back, lol.

Cheryl

Hi Cheryl !

Looks like we're going to have to have a birthday party on this cruise, huh? :earsboy: :earsgirl:

We live in the huge metropolis of Kingsburg, Ca ; about 20 miles south of Fresno. So we are about 2 hours north of Santa Clarita.
I spent some time there a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. Nice area. :D

Cheryl, what line have you cruised on before? I have been on other lines as well, but Disney is definitely #1.

'Beano'

Beano,

We've sailed twice with RCI. First time was way back BC (before kids) on the Song of America. (Eastern Carib) Second one was last January, with kids, on the Voyager of the Seas. (Western Carib) They were, of course, two very different experiences. The Song of America was tiny by today's standards and the Voyager was huge, just to name one thing. We also have a 4 night Baja with Carnival coming up in January, just a quick getaway. We are looking forward to comparing all three lines, as we have heard so much debate about the merits of all of them.

Are you planning to tack a visit to DL onto your trip as well? We will be driving down to the port that Saturday as soon as DH gets home from work. He has to work until noon that day. That will probally have us arriving sometime around 1:30 or 2pm, later than we had hoped. Nine more months, it seems such a long time to wait! Can't hardly wait to hear some details of what DCL is planning.:)

Cheryl

Yes, we are planning to spend 2 or 3 days at DL/DCA before the cruise. I hope to make the ressies pretty soon, since it is during the 50 year celebration, so I'm sure the place will fill up fast.

But the cruise is a done deal, and we can't wait to experience Disney cruising, California style! I will miss Castaway Cay though!

 Hi All,

I am BeanoC's DW. As I went back to read over the posts I have discovered that the majority of you are teachers or are in the education field.
Guess I'll just add to the pot. I am a former pre-school teacher and I now stay at home, so I am able to spend more time with my kids!

Guess we're gonna get lots of "edumacation" on this cruise!!!!!

Can't wait .....I have less than a month before my October cruise and then I'll be on the countdown for this one!!!!

:chat: Hope to chat with you all more....

Smiles,

RonnieJo:flower1:

Hey everyone. It's been a while. Frances made a direct hit just south of us. Thankfully we escaped with no damage whatsoever. We were without power for 5 days and the kids were out of school for 7 days. My Dh and I took the kids and headed to Orlando to Disnsey for the hurricane. We stayed at the BCV for 3 nights until the storm passed through FL.

Welcome Beano and Ronniejo!:wave2: Looks like you will be sailing a week before us this year!:teeth:

Dena::MinnieMo

Dena, Glad to hear that your are ok and made the best of a bad situation.:) While I'm sure the kids didn't mind missing school, it's got to be hard not knowing what's going to happen to your home.

Welcome RonnieJo, to what is shaping up to be a "learning experience". What to you suppose the odds are that so many of us on this cruise would work in the education field? Then to top it off, birthday twins also! Who'd a thunk it!

:wave2: Cheryl

:wave2: Hi everyone!

I haven't been on much lately since my 90 year old grandmother fell and broke her hip. I've been spending time, first at the hospital and now at the nursing home with her. She is doing much better and is looking forward to getting back into her apartment and back to her independent life.

Welcome to BeanoC and RonnieJo66! Glad to see that our thread is growing. We are also going to spend a few days at DL before the cruise....I need to make those ressies soon! And we have a DS who will be 15 when we cruise!

mdvasquez - Glad to hear that everything is OK where you are. I'm sure all you Floridians will be glad to see the end of this hurricane season.

We have a good friend on the Magic cruise staff and he told us that things aboard the ship have been very difficult these last few weeks with all the hurricanes and changes in ports of call. He said that many passengers have not been very understanding about "acts of nature"and tend to take it out on the staff.

Hope all is well with everyone....have a great weekend!

Hi everyone,

Beth, so sorry to hear of your grandmother's accident. Coming back from a break like that can be a very long, difficult road. It sounds like things are working out well though and she must be some fiesty lady.

We've been keeping busy ourselves. Between school and work life is nevery dull; it does however take away a lot of time from "important" things like vacation planning, lol. We just bought a used Toyota Tacoma for DD (who will be getting her licence soon) and our insurance has trippled! :earseek: Just wait until DS gets his licence! :earseek: :earseek:

Anyone have any idea, or an educated, or for that matter not so educated guess when DCL will release some more info on next summer's cruises? I'm especially interested in what they might offer for shore excursions. I've been looking at what RCI and Carnival have and would like to see what DCL might do different, or if they will be offering the same.

Hope eeryone is well. :wave2:

Cheryl

Hi all...

Cheryl,

My biggest question is : How will DCL compensate for the lack of the magical day on Castaway Cay?

Regardless of the ports of call or the excursions, the best day on the Florida Disney cruises (IMHO) is Castaway Cay day!!

Without a 'Disney-hosted' special private island day, how will they make up for it?

CC is truly magical as far as I'm concerned, so I think Disney better pull out all the stops if they want to equal the east coast cruise experience.

But I have faith in them!!!!

So bring it on.... :)

Hi Everybody,

Just checking in and giving us a little bump. It is fall break for DS and I, but DH and DD still have work and school. We don't have any big plans for the week as it's just the two of us. We'll most likely head down one day this week to Disneyland, well maybe twice if I can convince DS! Other than that we will be just hanging out at home, going to the movies, sleeping in and being lazy.

We've finally been having some "fall like" weather, at least for us. Highs in the upper 70s or low 80s, just right! I for one do not miss the 100 degree days of summer.

Hope all are well.

Cheryl:wave:

Got a few minutes before I have to leave for work. Anyone still out there?
