June 21, 2011 - The Wonder breaks the Alaskan icebergs!

Hello DIS'ers. Random question---my parents are on this sailing and we'd love to join them. I've noticed that all of the sailings before this one (May & June) have openings...but June 21 is completely sold out and has been for weeks.

Does anyone know why? Large groups? This sailing does appear to be the first sailing after West Coast schools let out for summer...is that why? Any thoughts?

I'm sure it's because school is out of session by this point. The following week is 4th of July and the pricing was higher than this one. I know that the schools in the south get out a little earlier, but where we live (Northeast) most schools finish in mid to late June.

Two months from today is our sailaway! YAAAAY! It's getting closer!

Just checked out what Disney, Pixar, and Touchstone releases upcoming and saw Cars 2 is set for June 24. That means midnight showing Thursday during our cruise. Also thought Cars 2 items might make good FE gifts for some of the younger set sailing with us.

Of course with POTC On Stranger Tides being released May 20th, there will probably be plenty of showings of that, as well. I can't wait to hear back from the first one or two sailings' folks to know if/where there is a pirate party on board. It won't be long now before we will have some answers.

Can't believe we set sail 8 weeks from tomorrow!!!

BTW, I saw some were talking about when school gets out. Here in northern FL, the kids last day is June 7.

Kveens - My husband's name is actually Joey, not Joe. I specify this only because FIL is also cruising with us, and he goes by Joe. So just in case anyone is making anything personalized.

My inlaws got their cabin assignment today, 2524. They were Cat 9C gty and got a 9C.


Oh, regarding the dates, yes, I assume it is because most schools are out by the 21st of June. We're out May 27th here, but we booked before we knew where we'd live, and hence when school would be out. Also, I wouldn't want to do Alaska the 1st week of June for the weather. We did late July last time and it was already starting to get cold and the natives told us their fall starts in August, so that made us pick mid/late June this time around.

Hi Jerry!

I highly recommend that you go to the FAQ link on the main DCL DIS page http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=33184281&postcount=2 and read up on what FE is to see if it is something you are interested in doing this cruise. Basically, you provide little gifts from your home state or something useful for your cruisemates in a pocket contraption hanging outside their stateroom doors. In return, your pocket contraption gets filled with goodies from others who are participating. The cutoff is May 21st to join our participant list in order to allow those who handcraft items enough time to get them finished and packed. Let me know, as this cruise's FE organizer, if you choose to participate so you can be added to the list.
