this stuff still confuses me so much... so need to ask... we are thinking of taking weekend trip .. one night is available, I would waitlist the other one .. question is what if waitlist doesn't come thru am I right in remembering I will lose points since they were borrowed if cancel inside of 30 days? and can't put them back in 2020... if so, sounds like best to waitlist whole trip and see if comes thru to be safe?

Would you be borrowing 2020 UY points to book the single day that is available? And will you not keep that single day if the second day doesn’t come through? If so it makes sense to waitlist both days.

Borrowing those June 2020 points into your 2019 UY would leave them stuck there, and as you mentioned, if cancelled at less than 30 days out, they’ll go into holding.

However... if you can book the first day using 2019 UY points and add a waitlist for the second day, but set that to expire at 31 days upon waitlist expiration (failure to be filled), since traveling in February, you can cancel your first day booked at 31 days and still be within your 8 month banking period which would expire January 31, 2020.

Borrowing is a final transaction. If you need to borrow to book the one night and don’t get night 2 and want to cancel, at least 31 days out, those borrowed points would expire at the end of the UY you were planning to travel.

If you cancel 30 days or less from check in, not only will the borrowed points expire at the end of the UY, they will also become holding points which restricts their use for booking vacations 60 days or less from check in.

Since you will only be going if you get both nights, I would just waitlist them both, set it for 7 days prior and then go from there. This way, you can cancel the waitlist at whatever point you need if it hasn’t filled.
