I think that getting away for a while will be good for all of you. It will give you some time be together away from the demands of daily life.

Magie

I sure hope so.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss...I'll be praying for you and your family.

Thank you for posting your change in plans. Ibmickey is my daughte and that is the very room we had wanted when we first decided to take this cruise, she was able to get on line and book it for us. We received a conformation from our travel agent yesterday. Take good care of your family you will be in our thaoughts and pray

Tammy please enjoy being together away from home. It sounds like a wonderful plan.

May you find peace through the pain in time. God bless!

Thanks for all the kind words. You never know, I may rebook this cruise later on, but I wanted the 10 percent discount and onboard credit that I got by booking onboard to be transferred to the Repo to save money as it was $$$$$$$$!!!!!!

I am glad that a diser got the SPH. I posted right after I made the change so you guys would get a chance.

Hi all! Just rebooked on board a few days ago for June 20, 2009. Not sure if the date may get moved when they post 2010 in December, but until then, I thought I'd introduce myself. Another Ohio buckeye here...NE OHio. Do we have the state covered now??? Just DH and myself, both in our 50s. Just got back from our Western yesterday. Want to go back...NOW!!

Ok, so I know we have Buckeye country covered.

Because of the date, I am wondering how many other teachers on board?

Have not been on this board for several weeks. I can see that not much has been happening here, but afterall the cruise is more then a year away. If you hav been following you know that I was having problems waiting, so I went hunting for something sooner. I found a cruise on September 14, it is only 4 days but it should help the time go by. I will really have to save now for this cruise. My Sept one is paid in full. The difference in cost is really a little hard to get use to. My daughter Michelle will be going with me in Sept. We told the girls last week. They took it very well, knowing that we can't take them out of school. They are begenning to get excited about this cruise.

Thats all for now. I will check in again later.

How excited for you and your dd....you'll have to come back and post a trip report when you get back.

I'm new to these boards, though I've lurked on them once or twice.

My husband and I just returned this month from our first cruise ever -- the May 3-10 Western. It was supposed to be a romantic getaway after spending a year apart (he's military) but we spent a lot of time saying, "Oh wow! I wish your mom could see this!" Or "So-and-so would be so excited right now." And my husband turned out to be something of a closeted Disneyphile. Soooo... we rebooked for next year, this time with family in tow. It made a nice Mother's Day surprise for my mother-in-law. She almost cried right there in the restaurant! She's a real sweetheart.

We originally booked for May, but realized that would interfere with lots of school plans, so we scooched our reservations over to this cruise. We enjoyed the Western itinerary, but we wanted to see something different too.

Curiosity got the better of me and I decided to see who would be going on the 6/20/09 Tortola cruise, so here I am! I may not post much, but I thought I would at least check in.

Who is going?
Me (mid-30s... ish!)
Husband (same)
MIL (60s)
Daughter (will be 21)
Son (will be 18)

Where are we?
One inside room, one outside room -- Deck 7 Aft, Port. (Man, do I ever wish we had a 2br suite.)

My MIL and daughter are thrilled about going and are incredibly easy to please. My husband is already anxious about getting back on the boat. I am a little concerned about my son, who will have fun, but will probably snicker and roll his eyes a lot. (I told him to be prepared for Disney cheese and that if I heard one complaint, he was welcome to stay home and save me the money. :lmao: ) I wish he was going to be 17 when we set sail, so he could hang out with the teens and play videogames. I'm hoping with the time of year, he'll meet some other 18-20s to hang out with.

Aaanyways. Hi!

Hi! :)
My daughter will be 18 when we go and my nephew will be 19! They both will have just graduated HS the month before we go!!:yay: This will be my daughters 5th Disney Cruise and my nephew's 1st!
Your son will have a blast!!

Will he just have graduated when you go also?

Since my nephew has never been, my daughter will be a huge help in showing him what's what and how things operate! Do you all have late or early dining?

Fellow teachers getting out soon are making me jealous, but congrats to you on another year accomplished. We have 4 snow days to make up! This Friday should've been our last day, but now it's next Thursday. We also found out we're moving our department to the newer
"lower level" aka basement classrooms so we might have to come back to do additional packing & moving. We wind up moving our file cabinets, giant bookcases/shelving units, & desks ourselves. UGH!

One of my DIS board friends finished last Friday & is at Disney this week.

Oh well, my time is getting closer to the world!

Welcome CodeNameJack!

Your husband sounds so sweet. We took my Mom to Disney for her 1st trip at 80 & it was sooo magical. I only wish she would go on a cruise. She hates boats & the heat. She won't budge. We're lucky we got her on the Jungle Boat Cruise. One the CMs saw her 80th b-day button & her 1st time button. He teased her "Happy 80th bday---what took you so long to get here?"

Does your son like sports? We saw a lot of older teens/20somethings playing bball on the sports deck. He can workout too if he's not into lounging by the pool. Maybe he could focus on excursions that he would enjoy--perhaps the more athletic or thrill seeking types. They will show some non kid movies in the theater. He might enjoy the sports pub too to watch some games. Encourage him to talk to the crew & find out where there from & what it's like on the ship. Many of them will be in their 20s.

And then there's the ever popular sitting in the room :happytv: & ordering the free room service.

I teach h.s. & the boys who go on cruises always talk about the room service while other boys look at them in awe....."you just order, they bring it, and you don't have to pay.....WOW!" The 2nd thing they talk about is the excursions/ports. The 3rd things is the girls they met--often late at night by the hot tub can be a hot spot. Several also mention being able to drink too FYI.

Here's our Deck 5 crew (ages as of next year):

Me 40!!!
DH 44
DS 12 (who can't wait to be 18 & get to go to Palo)
DS turning 9 the day we set sail & is so bummed we're not going this year!

Magie: Congrats on your Sept cruise & on saving.

DH is still on the job hunt. If you're the praying type, please say a prayer for Scott. He's getting disheartened. He's a former AF Nat Guard Tech Sgt, electrical engineer w/ an MBA, 17 years of telecom experience, a year of SOX compliance w/ software release management experience, so he's no slouch......this job market is really rough. He's usually overqualified and even though is able & willing to do the jobs out there, they'd rather have someone they'd rather have someone younger that they could pay a lot less.

Yep! He's graduating in May '09. We requested late dining at 8pm. (I really hope we don't get stuck with 8:30. That was TOO late for me, since we ended up sitting around until 10:00.)

We're doing early dining as always....I can't imagine going to bed on a full tummy!:rotfl:
And believe me, when I walk out of those restaurants, my tummy is way full!!

I guess I'm here more than I thought I'd be...

DVC Mary -- All good suggestions! My son is really into sports and physical activities, so I'm sure he'll find a lot to keep him busy. The boy also likes to eat, so that works out. :D Good luck with DH's job hunt!

This last cruise, we were up pretty late watching shows and things. I may still try to switch, though, as MIL is not a night owl like us. :D

My nephew is way into sports also....and eating!!! So they should get along fine!!:thumbsup2
