June 15 '08 Mexican Riv. Cruise

I envy your warm weather....we had a group hike scheduled for today but had to cancel because it was sooo cold :(

oh no! I can't do the cold weather anymore! I am so spoiled being in SoCal for so long!!!!!

I am worried Mexico will be too cold for me compared to what I am used to. We do not get as hot as Vegas but we def get up over the 100's!!!

Hi ~ no worries djdj456; got it figured out that it's San Pedro Port. I actually like that port better than Long Beach; not as crowded.

I'll look into a door hanger. Would I put it over our stateroom door and would it fit/close okay?

Worse case scenario is I'll have (2) FE's on the one fish; or try and stagger it someway or even alternate them daily or hang one on the door handle.
:sail: pixiedust:
We were in Mexico the 2nd week of April and it was hot so I can only think it will be hotter in June!

I like the sun but not the heat and humidity. Where we live it rarely gets this hot this early in the year. We get great sun but there's usually an ocean breeze which makes it bearable.:beach:

Busy week ~ our big PTA Family Event is this weekend and I'm the PTA president and in charge of the silent auction so there's a lot to do in addition to normal day to day stuff.:cheer2:

This may have been asked but anyone confirmed on shore excursions? We've don Cabo Dolphins and I know you can book directly through their website. I've also heard Mazatlan Mike does private tours and has gotten great reviews.

Thanks again for all the help....should be doing carnival stuff and household stuff but may just push it to the side and start assembling the FE's. See what you all have started ?!?!:woohoo:

haha and I'm worried it will be too hot although I'm hoping the breeze on the water will cool us down. I grew up in SoCal so I'm used to warm weather but being on the east coast for several years now Im getting used to the cold. When we went on our cruise last year we left for the Carribean in Feb and it was 0 degrees and when we came home there was a HUGE snow storm and it was below zero. Made me happy to be out of town for a week though!

Fantastic!! :cool1:

Im not sure, but when I was looking at pictures I think someone else tried it and it worked.

Good luck with everything. I have a big event I'm working on too so I totally understand the pressure. Hope it goes well!!

Were confirmed. My DH and DFIL are doing power snorkeling in Cabo and my family is doing a beach excursion and snorkeling. My DMIL and I are going to relax and shop and relax :) For Matazatlan were doing some off road car ride thing and my family is shopping. For PV most of us are doing the zip line  and the rest are doing another beach excursion.

Im looking forward to my fabric coming in so I can start our FE. Im hoping to work on magnets tonight if I can ever get through emails.

You could just hang 2 FE on the fish. They can just be side by side.

I know, it is crazy! I have been making more magnets for people the past few days I have not gotten anything else done! Oh well, I love it!

djdj456 - Did you DH decide if he was going to wear his uniform on Formal Night???

Are there any families out there that are going to get all dressed up for pirate night??? I got adorable outfits for our DD's. I am just not sure about DH and I.

Cabo - Family Beach Excursion. I am a little disappointed that you can't go in the ocean but it seems like it will still be fun with the pools, waterslides, etc...

Mazatlan - Zip Line and end with Tequilla factory tour/tasting

Puerto Vallarta - Sea Life Park to swim with Dolphins. It is like a mini water park and also has the dolphin option. Much cheaper then through Disney.

For the magnet paper you got at the scrapbooking store, is there a name of it? Also, did you say its okay to work with your printer? I told my husband about it and he was worried I might hurt the printer so I thought Id look into it more before purchasing it.

Yes my DH is going to wear his uniform.

I don't think we'll be dressing up for the event but I look forward to seeing others dressed up :)

I do not use magnetic paper. I use my xyron machine for scrapbooking. It might be cheaper to use magnetic paper but I like the finished product better this way. The magnetic paper is thin and no it till not mess up your printer.

If you have a friend that scrapbooks see if they have a xyron machine (if you do not). Then go to Joann's or Michaels with a 40% off coupon (assuming you have those stores) and buy a cartridge for it Laminate/Magnet. You can just print the pictures at home on whatever paper. I use somewhat of a glossy paper. Then you can run the pictures through the xyron machine. With the coupon a cartridge will cost you $15. The cartridge is 10 feet. 1 will be more then enough to make all of your magnets. Maybe 2 if you are making them for all 3 staterooms.

Cool on the uniform, DH won't feel so alone! :thumbsup2 :rotfl:

That is a good idea. We are not pirate people at all but everyone had so much fun last time that I thought we might join in this time.

Wow - sounds like it's gearing up to be a good time!!! My son loves Pirates so I think he'll be set, my 7 yo niece got a cute outfit and when she gets here, we'll add to it. I've got a pirate shirt as well as a black tiered skirt. I'll look piratey enough, I supposed.
Well, I got absolutely nothing done today that I should have gotten done but....I am 95% finished with 2 FE's and about 75% finished with the third. Just need to buy more bias tape to finish the 1st 2 and need to attach the pockets and finish the last one.
Does anyone know where I can get those disney dowels? If not, I'll just use plain ones. Also, any ideas on how to attach the hanger part to the dowel?
I must say, the FE's came out really cute; much better than I thought they would.
I put my sister in charge of door decorations and I'll also look into magnetic paper. Thanks for the tips.
Well, it's late so thank you again for all the tips, advice, excursions, etc. Hope there will be more chatting as the time get's closer! I'll send an "invite" on the CC Disney board to come and check us out!:goodvibes

My dowel is hollow so the rope fits through it for the hanger.

Everyone just makes those Disney Dowels using a round ball and 2 flat circles. They just paint them the color they want.

I am just going to place an additional dowel in the larger dowel to attach the Mickey heads and not have to mess with the rope for the hanger.

Have a good night!

Yesterday I got about 50% of the way done with our door magnets (there are a LOT to make for three rooms!) :cheer2: . And I have to say that I'm very proud that I got my husband to help me. I think he took pity on me and decided to help. Seeing the progress is making me 1 - want to make the FE and buy stuff for them! 2 - Go on the cruise (the weather here also makes me want to leave - 50 and raining in April...come on mother nature!). So I brought them to work today to work on when I'm not busy so hopefully it'll move along quickly and I'll get to work on the FE soon.

Can anyone tell me if we have access to rooms when we get on the ship? Or at least doors. I wasn't sure if I should make a bag and see if they'll put it in their room and they can decorate the door, or if it would just be easier for me to give them the bag of goodies earlier and keep the door decorations and do it myself on the ship. If I do it myself, I'm trying to figure out the best time to decorate the other rooms (would like it to be a surprise). Any idea on if I can decorate the door early? ;)

OK - Not making Disney Dowels because I don't want to paint! A little confused:confused3 on your 2 dowel system and not messing with a rope hanger. When you get the chance, could you explain or even post a photo?
Gotta go ~ take son to school and car for servicing!
Have a great day All!!!:goodvibes

Hello I’m Greg . I will be traveling with my wife Sherry. This will be our first Disney Cruise only she doesn’t know it yet. We were booked on Royal Caribbean Vision of the Seas but I just couldn’t resist changing our reservation to sail with Disney. We are both big fans, we have been to Disneyworld and Disneyland a few times. We have only been on a four night Royal Caribbean cruise before so this will be our first 7 night cruise. My wife is celebrating her 30th birthday on June 16th. I have been lurking on these boards for months and really wasn’t planning on posting but I really would like to be part of the Fish Extenders. I want my wife to have the full Disney experience and it seems like Fish Extenders are a lot of fun. I have already talked to a family friend and she feels she could make one so we will be all set. I will try to post as much as I can but I don’t always have access to a computer at work and it’s hard to post at night since my wife is home with me asking what I am looking at on the computer:rolleyes1 .

You do not have access to your room right away. The areas outsdie the elevators are roped off for a little while after boarding. I am planning on bringing everything in a backpack to decorate our door and even the room if I can pull it off. I am just planning on having DH keep the girls up on deck by the pool or something. Then as soon as we can get to our stateroom door then I will be there decorating!!!

Hi Greg!!! Welcome! So happy to hear that you and your wife will be joining us on this cruise. I am so excited for it! We LOVE DCL and I am sure you guys will too! We are surprising our DD's (whose birthdays are on the 13th) with the cruise so I understand how hard it is to keep under wraps!

That is also great you want to join in on the Fish Extenders too!

Do you have your stateroom number yet? When you do just send that over to me along with your wifes name. Also, let me know which night you would like to hand out your fish extender gifts. We have enough people participating that everyone will be receiving gifts each night!!! With your room that makes 10 staterooms and 30 people total!!! :woohoo:  :woohoo:

If you need any help with making door magnets or anything let me know. I have been making a bunch for my DD's birthdays.

Welcome Greg!
What a nice guy surprising your wife with a cruise. We just did the RCCL VOS 3 weeks ago and were disappointed. We love RCCL but the VOS is much smaller than what we were used to and there wasn't that much to do. The crew and service were excellent but for a first 7 day timer, I think you picked the better cruise, IMHO. Also, since both cruise lines go out of San Pedro, she can be kept in the dark until the moment you board and you go to Disney and not RCCL!
How fun that you want to join the Fish Extenders. They're not hard to make; I just did 3 for my nieces and son and I am not a sewer! Like you, I want the kids to have the full disney cruise experience as well!
Brooklyn is doing a great job organizing it so it's going to be fun.
Glad to see more people are joining in the chats~ :woohoo:

I found the dowels and JoAnn's and got these great pre cut braided ropes with little loops on the end that fit tightly around the dowels so I'm all set!
Thanks for all your suggestions! Just have to put the finishing touches on the FE's and I'm done.
Then I can work on the Pixie Dust and brainstorm on decorations.
