Count us in on those disappointed with the cost of DCL!

I'm trying to plan a cruise in 2015 for myself, DW, DS and Fiance, DD and BF

6/13/15 Disney Fantasy - 7 night Eastern Caribbean - 2 Oceanview staterooms - 3 adults per $11,500 with an OBB discount!

6/14/15 RCCL Freedom of the Sea - 7 night Eastern Caribbean - 1 Verandah stateroom - 2 inside staterooms directly across hall - 2 people in each stateroom $7,100

And if we had done 2 Oceanview with 3 people in each it was only $6,500 - now tell me DCL where am I getting the the extra $5,000 worth of valus?

We are right there with you. We are doing our 5th DCL on the Magic next month and love them but the 2015 prices I have been seeing are making me look to RCCL for 2015. However, I will miss Castaway Cay.

I was just telling someone I would miss the "When you wish upon a star" horn. But I'm not going to $2000 miss it! :rotfl2:

Good way to put it! Thats how I hope I feel after our first RCCL cruise this October! Its scary to "jump ship" from DCL but it just makes more sense!!

I couldn't believe the difference in prices as well! We were looking at doing a 7 day cruise as well, and the difference was over $4,000. Now I know RCCL charges for soda and maybe there is a few more available dining options that cost extra. However, even if I bought every drink package for all of us, ate at the specialty restaurants every night, bought Starbucks every morning, I don't think I would come close to spending that extra 4,000!

I really wish it wasn't that much of a difference, because there is no way I could rationalize spending that much for DCL. Maybe if the difference was 1,000 or even maybe $1,500 I could convince myself. But 4k? Nope can't do it.

That's a lot of "free" soda...:faint:

If the itinerary involves Cococay, give it a good chance! I actually really liked it and didn't mind not being on Castaway, and let me tell you, I really loved being on Castaway.

As for the horn...well if your ship is leaving from the same port at the same basic time as a Disney cruise, you'll hear it. Trust me. :)

If not...you can think of it in your mind. It'll be OK.

That's true. In San Juan, the Magic is leaving the same day we are so we'll see her (she's sailing basically the same itinerary). Part of me is really hoping they offer *GT rates on the repo to Port Canaveral so I can still get on the new Magic.

Next year, in Europe, I'll just play it in my mind! :rotfl2:

I priced out a 5-night Vision of the Seas (D1 Balcony with D+ discount and $25 OBC)with stops in Key West and Cozumel against the 5-night Magic next May with stops in Nassau, Key West, and Castaway Cay (Cat 7 balcony - no discounts), and the Magic was only $110 more. I jumped the other way:)

We are trying our first RC cruise this fall - a higher level room for the same time we went on DCL last year is around $1000 less. Excited to try something new, excited it's for less money.

I'd love to do one of the new itineraries but the costs are getting out of my league of comfort, which DH will tell you he never thought would happen!

I am also jumping ship but it has nothing to do with DCL price.
It has to do with departure port.
I cannot waste the time & money (airfare) traveling to another state when there are great ships leaving from NJ/NY which is 30 minutes from my house.

I do not want to waste a "vacation" day with my kids sitting in the airport then sitting on a plane to get on the ship.

in 30 minutes from my front door we will be on the ship.

If DCL had been leaving from NYC again I would have been on it.
I think they have 1 more chance with my family 2016, before my boys get too old to care about the characters and stuff before rock climbing walls and water slides become more important to them.

NYC in 2016 :cheer2:

We are leaving DCL too. Going to cancel our res for Alaska on the Wonder for 2015 and go with Celebrity for $500 less plus we would rather leave from Seattle than Vancouver. Yes, I spent over 2 hours making that reservation, but oh well. Don't really think Disney is the best itinerary for older kids in Alaska.

And this summer we will try RCL for the first time out of Galveston because that's where extended family lives and a Caribbean cruise with RCL in the summer is so very much cheaper than DCL in the summer.

I should add that we LOVE DCL but have older kids now who need their own room and Disney is expensive when you get 2 rooms. RCL is much better for an inside room for two teens. Too bad my 6ft teen can't sleep on that pull down bed anymore.

If we can ever go off-season then maybe we'd go back to DCL but summer prices are too high for a very crowded boat and people soup in the pool.

We're also jumping ship. Been on 16 Disney cruises (including Panama Canal and Hawaii) and loved them all, but can't keep justifying the higher and higher prices. Booked Alaska next May on Radiance of the Seas large ocean view for $1788 vs what would be $3800 for ocean view on Disney first week of June (no May cruise available). Can't justify more than double the price.

We live in Florida so I will keep looking for *GT rates and Florida discounts, but my days of paying full price are over with Disney.

We are moving to Florida too and this is how we feel. Our TA in 2015 will probably be the last time we sail disney without a discount. We cannot justify twice the price anymore as we don't have to think about airfare and hotels etc. the last minute deals on other lines are so deeply discounted too.

How exciting. We love it here (Orlando area). Been here almost two years now. Still feels like a permanent vacation. Being close to the theme parks and ports is a great thing!

I have never been on either cruise line, and I currently have reservations for both Radiance of the Seas and the Wonder for Alaska in 2015. We have 2 balcony cabins (d1's) on the Radiance for a family of 4 for 8500; cost of one balcony stateroom on Disney (5a) = 9600. Still keeping the Disney balcony for now but quickly talking myself out of it...

On cruise critic, there are some great reviews of Radiance in Alaska. This http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1679447 be is especially good, and he has linked it to one he is writing now that covers an earlier Radiance Alaska cruise.

Congratulations! If I could get DCL for only $100 - $200 more I would be all over it.

I was on RCCL FOS last November and had a great time - taking the whole family this time - they thought DCL - I explained why and everyone is onboard (pun intended) for RCCL FOS.

That's great!! After I read your post I went and priced out our cruise on Disney just in case! No such luck for us :(

7 night Eastern Caribbean cruise on Freedom $2500
7 night Eastern Caribbean cruise on Fantasy (same week) $6200

That's ok, excited to try our RC for our fist time anyway :)
