Good morning teammies!!!!

Its the first day of a new month, 2010 is half way over already! Where does the time go?

With the heat and humidity coming back, make sure you stay hydrated when you are out running and walking.

I don't have a lot if time right now, but later I will add our roster to this post.

Lets have another incredible month!!

Happy July! :wizard:

Ran a beautiful 4M last night in the park. What a difference 63 degrees is from 87!

Races scheduled this month for me:

Glen Rock 9/11 Tribute 5k - July 5th (my first 5k)
NYRR Dash & Splash 10k - July 10th
Central Park Conservatory 4M - July 17th

Hey, so I'm new! Got pointed over here a few days ago, then had some computer problems and didn't visit! So glad to have a group to join!

I'm Megan, 29, from the D.C. area. Running my first half at Disneyland. Trained up to run Princess this spring, then got the stomach flu the day before the race! Definitely a disappointment. So I'm excited to be running my first soon. I'm also running Wine & Dine the following month.

I started running a few years ago to try to lose weight. It hasn't worked, but I'm still trying!

(Also, how is it already July???)

amy I agree running the past few days has been beautiful and so enjoyable. Your upcoming races sound like fun. Good luck

Megan- :welcome: to our team. I cant believe you got sick the day before the race. thats so sad I bet that was really disappointing after putting in the hard work. I would be devistated. My plan is to run the disney princess this year as my first 1/2. Maybe I will see you there.
Your dl trip is right around the corner, good luck with your training.

My goal when starting WW and running at the beginning of may was to loose 20lbs by my vacation. We leave early saturday morning and today is my last work day so I weighed in today (since I use our office scale) and Im at 195.6 which = 19.4lbs lost. I am excited and proud that I got close and maybe if I would run tonight and come in tomorrow and weigh myself I just might hit it but I am not that obsessive so I will just let it go. I am hoping I can continue eating well while on vacation and that when I return I will be at 20+lbs lost. This would be a miracle considering its usually vacations that throw me off the wagon. I really am going to try hard!!!!

Enjoy your day team. I hope its as beautiful where you are as it is here:cloud9:

I WAS devastated! I cried and cried. And I could hear the fireworks at the start from my hotel room and I was just so upset. Plus I was sick. It was the most miserable I've been in a long time. But it just wasn't meant to be.

Excellent work on the weight loss! My goal has been to get down to my goal weight by my 30th birthday (in January). I started this plan in January. Since then, I'm up 3-4 pounds. UGH. I've got about 17 lbs to lose, and I am just failing miserably. I need to figure out why I'm self sabotaging and STOP.

Amy- glad you are having some cooler weather. It sure makes the miles easier! And wow! You are going to have a busy month. GL this weekend in your 5k. Don't you just love races at new distances, automatic PR:).

Megan - welcome to our group!! I hope your races this fall go better than princess did.

Lindsay- woo hoo on the fabulous wieght loss! Have fun on vacation!!!

I had a great run tonight. I decided to bite the bullet and rush up to my mom's house after DS's swim lessons so I could drop off the kids and run the bridges with my running group. It was a perfect night for it, we have a "cold snap" on mid-eighties weather and it was drizzling the whole run so we were wet, but not roasting like it has been. I felt energized and had a great 7 miles.
Tomorrow is going to be such a fun day. We are taking DS to Toy Story 3 and then going to the fireworks at World Golf Village in St Augustine. I just love Fourth of July weekend. Plus DH has a 4 day weekend. Yay!

Happy 4th of July everyone!

Just start one day at a time. Its just a matter of getting your mind ready to do it. I self sabotaged myself for years on/off, hence the wt issue but I have finally got my mind ready and so far it seems to be working. You will get there too. Have a goal will help. When is your bday? mine is 1/18. I turned 30 in 2009! I wanted to be thin by my 30th but that was not a big enough motivator for me. The princess half so far has been the best motivator yet!

My birthday is 1/10. So I've got six months. Maybe I won't get all the way to my goal, but if I could at least end the year thinner than I started, I think that would be a good goal. I'm hoping training for races will help as well. I put on a bunch of weight after my missed race and then during May, which was pretty much a month of health scares that all turned out to be nothing. Definitely emotional eating.

Happy July INCREDIBLES!

I feel like June went by and I totally checked out! It was a VERY busy month in this household. We've had swim meets, waterpolo, my work, my husband's work, my boys work....and my 15 yr old isn't driving yet so that means I get to play taxi cab driver for everything he needs to do :rotfl:. I'm certainly hoping July isn't quite as busy...but somehow I think it is going to be. I think it all seems to be flying by because my oldest will be leaving for college at the 1st of August....that will be a very sad, but happy day for me.

My training in the month of June also suffered. I got a stomach bug in the middle of June and it held on for about a week :sad2: I didn't think I was ever going to get past it! But finally I'm back to short training runs and it has been so hot (like triple digits) that I'm having to run in the mornings before work and I'm only able to get about 3 miles in....but I guess better than nothing.

So, with very little training and only doing the 3 miles, I am signed up for the Folsom Firecracker 10k in the morning. My youngest son is doing it with me so he can get in a timed 10k run before the DL half. When I signed him up all he'd done was a 5k so that would mean without an official time he'd be in the last corral and I want him to be able to start with me....and I don't want to move to the last corral! So keep fingers crossed for a good run for him.....For me, I'm just hoping to be able to run the 6.2 miles....I'm not really worried about how fast this run.

Oh, I forgot to say :welcome:to our new members!

I haven't went back and read all of the posts for June yet but I did want to check-in before I blink and July is over :lmao:

I hope everyone has a wonderful & super safe July 4th!:beach:

How was your run this morning!?! Was it in Folsom or was it the Firecracker 10K in Land Park? I hope your son's run went well. I suspect that even if I were to run a 10K in time to have an official time for the DL Half, I'd still end up in the last corral! :lmao:

Actually, I think I might use our team here as my sounding board for my runs and times as I move myself through Hal Higdon's Novice Half Marathon program. I think it will help keep me honest about keeping up on my runs and might (just maybe) provide some relief for those people who keep thinking they are slow runners. You know who you are. The ones who worry because they are "only" running a 12 minute mile. For myself, I'm thrilled when I run a 12 minute mile. I'm still mostly comfortable somewhere over around a 14 minute mile. :rolleyes1

I'm finishing up Week 4 on the HH plan (DH and I will have an extra week somewhere along the way where we can repeat). I did my run from last night this morning, so while today was supposed to be a rest day, I did my 3.5 miles at an average speed of 13:52/mile. I did it indoors on a treadmill since DH was at work and I had DDs with me.

Doing my long run on Sunday is going to be tricky since the day is pretty well filled with 4th of July events from morning to night. So, I'm trying to decide to do my 5 mile long run a) tomorrow (Saturday) morning -- even though I just ran 3.5 miles today, b) Sunday -- really early (ugh), or c) Monday morning.

The run is actually on Saturday Morning around Lake Natomas. We went and ran part of the course today to try out DS's new shoes and boy was it warm! If my run tomorrow goes anything like our run today it is not going to be pretty! Hopefully tomorrow morning at 8:00 won't be as warm as it was today at 11:00....and hopefully there will be plenty of people in front of me to scare off the snakes!! We saw one as we were running the trails today. Needless to say I DON'T like the snakes.....they scare me :scared1:

I hope everyone is having a great July 4th weekend! I'm sad to say that I won't be running for the next eight weeks. I have a stress fracture in my lower shin. I haven't been overtraining as far as number of runs per week (3), but I have been pushing myself in terms of trying to go faster. When I start back, I am going to take it easy and not worry about time until I have been running for at least a year, maybe more (I started in Jan 2010).

I am disappointed that I won't be able to run a 10K on Labor Day, but my ultimate goal is the Princess, so I have to get better to be able to train for that. The end of my eight weeks of rest coincides with the start of school, so that will work out wonderfully because it will be easier to train then anyway. I am going to do spin classes and yoga during my break, but nothing that will aggravate my leg. As far as weight loss is concerned, I am sure I will continue to lose, even without the running. I have my newly diagnosed reflux to thank for that. It's very easy to have self-control when food makes you feel bad. Of course, I think I would rather be 10 pounds heavier, happy, and eating hamburgers and hot dogs this weekend!

I'll still be around here to cheer everyone on. Good luck to everyone who is doing races this weekend!

Don't worry about how fast anyone else is going. You are the only one who can run your race, you do it at whatever pace you are comfortable at. I was once where you are, but 3 years of running and training have helped me get to where I am and continue on to where I want to go.
As for when to get that long run in, I would pick Sunday early. Then you can indulge in 4th of July festivities without guilt;)

I hear you on the snakes, Yucko. I saw some deer today, a doe and 3 fawns crossed the road ahead of me. I don't mind most wildlife, but snakes and skunks are big on my not so fond of list. Good luck with your run and let us know how you do.

Oh sweetie, when it rains it pours! Don't try to start back until you are sure you are healed, it will only make things worse. And you have plenty of time before the Princess to heal, do some cross training and get back to your running. And hopefully things get better with your reflux and you make the adjustments you need to.

We are having a cookout today with family, no big thing. Just the usual hot dogs, hamburgers, potato and macaroni salad etc. I do tend to go overboard when I cook for these things, but I did try to rein myself in this time. Only made 2 salads and 2 desserts.:rolleyes1 But since I ran 9 miles this morning, I can indulge a little bit.

Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend and enjoys family, friends and fun!

I'm using Higdon's Novice plan too! I've used it before and I really like it. I wouldn't worry about your pace. When I run, I just always try to remember "All I need to do is keep a 16 minute mile pace."

I'm still debating whether or not to run today or push my run til tomorrow. I've actually been extending my weekend runs, since I had a bigger base built up when I started the plan, so I've scheduled myself for 6 miles today. I'll probably head out within the hour if I decide to go today.

Good Morning!:)

Hope everyone had a great 4th and weekend. If you have today off, good for you. If you have to work like me, well:sad2:

I am actually glad to be going to work today, as it keeps me on plan better than if I were home with DH and DD. And since the scale still keeps bouncing around the same numbers (up, then back down, no wait, back up again:headache:) I really can use all the help I can get. No running today, which is good since I have a bit of tenderness in my right ankle. Not sure why or from what, but a day of rest will definately help.

Humidity is back with a vengence here in NY, it will make running this week quite a challenge. Everyone stay well hydrate and go at cooler times to run if possible.

Keep up the good work friends, you are all INCREDIBLE!!

Lauren, I hope you feel better soon! :wizard:

We had a very nice 4th, and I ran my first 5k today! I was hoping for anything under 30 minutes, as my last 3 mile race was 31:26, and my best split on a 10k was 30:06. I was very nervous, though, because the starting temp was 85.

Came in at 29:06 :dance3::dance3::dance3:

Amy, that is AWESOME! Congratulations!

Thanks, guys. Sadly, I think I may have done in my headphones with all the water I poured on my head. :rotfl::rotfl:
